Noise level is fairly low for a sander.  This is a good small sander.

Has a variable humming noise level depending on the speed setting you use. Rather quiet in my opinion.

Where can I purchase the connector to hook this to my shop vac? The end that goes into the bag is tapered and doesn't seem to fit anything. Thanks!

You could try makita dealer, or look in woodworking catalogs, such as woodcraft supply, rockler, etc.

This is by far the best sander I’ve bought, it works really good on wood surfaces with little to no vibration. It seems to be holding up nicely.

My Rigid R2601 seems to have met it's demise so I looked at the reviews of this Makita and it was rated well. This is not even in the same league, I believe the Rigid is in he same sanding category, No Load Speed........................7,000 - 12,000 r/min, while the Makita states RPM Orbits per minute 4,000 - 12,000 I work a lot with reclaimed wood, I enjoy he challenge of making something out of a landfill target. I did a side by side of both with the last breaths of the Rigid using 60 grit, the Rigid tore the finish off in 2 swipes while the Makita didn't do much in many more swipes. very disappointed.

                                  Good sander, poor dust collection.
I needed a random orbital sander, and it came down to either this Makita or a Bosch. It was close, but the Makita won because most reviews cited its higher power. It works well and is comfortable to use, and had an extra handle for two-handed operation which would probably be useful on vertical surfaces. The factory dust bag leaks sawdust all over the place so I had to adapt a PVC coupler (from a YouTube video) to my small shop vac - works much better. Makita should make it easier to hook up a dust vac system.

Really nice orbital. I do a lot of sanding, and the tool is really stable....like rock solid. The variable speed is nice and the lock-on button makes a huge difference. The cord could be longer if I had any criticism at all that would be it, but I have really enjoyed this sander.

Really nice sander. My Craftsman random orbit sander lasted a very long time before it finally wore out, and I was going to buy another of the same model. But they don't make it anymore, so I ponied up $20 more for the Makita one. While I don't know how long this sander will last (duh) it was absolutely worth it. This sander is smoother, quieter, and makes way, way less mess (far better dust collection). It also has a very slow speed setting, which among other things is useful for gently roughing up surfaces in between coats of finish - i.e. you don't want to sand the surface and remove the previous coat. For the woodworking I do, the extra handle can get in the way, so I take it off sometimes (which only takes about five seconds). But I guess it would be nice for sanding a house or a similar application that could tire out your arm. Definitely recommended.

Hello Hobbyist & Workers, I have had many sanding projects here lately and have gone through 3 other major brand 5" orbital sanders and they lasted anywhere from 4 hours up to as long as 6 days. Now I'm talking about running a sander for hours at a time, like 6 hours straight, and only stopped to change the bag or sanding disc. (NOTE: Use the right grit sandpaper for the job and let the sander do the work, Never apply extra pressure down to try and get it to cut better ) And for the dust bag, it is amazing, it packs that little bag so tight with dust that it feels like pressing on a bag of flour. By far, this orbital sander is the best I've ever used in every way. Matter of fact, my son in law is getting one for Christmas this year that's how good they are. I attached a photo of the sander I purchased Model BO5041 variable speed model. Great price $79
