Product Overview

ImpactX is a line of impact-rated insert bits and fastening accessories built specifically for the demands of the professional contractor. Professionals require commercial duty bits and fastening accessories that can endure the force of high-volume screw driving applications with high torque impact drivers. Standard screwdriving bits are brittle and fit poorly into fasteners and in applications with high torque impact drivers this losing combo quickly leads to broken bits. ImpactX hits back with improved fitment and increased performance with high torque impact drivers. Precision machined (not forged) tips ensure full contact fit, while performance-optimized and heat-treated S2 steel provides more flex and more durability than standard, brittle bits.
  • Precision machined tips with superior fitment for full contact fit and longer life
  • Performance-optimized S2 steel construction for extended life
  • Calibrated heat treating process for added durability
  • Manganese phosphate surface for advanced corrosion resistance
  • Optimal geometry for an ideal fit and improved holding power
  • Engineered to withstand the extreme power of high-torque impact drivers
  • Ideal for driving screws in a variety of heavy-duty applications including metal fastening, deck building, framing and installing plywood subfloor
  • For use with high torque impact drivers and driver-drills

How do you remove bits from the extenders? It shouldn't take 4 other tools and every ounce of str...

Asked by BLS October 27, 2020

@MakitaTeam: What other information do you need? You stick a bit in an extension and it's nearly impossible to get it out. I had to clamp one end and use channel locks to pull on the other. I about fell down when I finally got it out from pulling so hard. Looking around on the web, I saw where people had luck by removing the retention ring. That worked for me, but you shouldn't have to essentially break the item for it work like normal.

What kind or class of user is the extension best suited for as it seems to be so heavy duty?

Asked by TooManyTools December 19, 2019

Response to AlanK: My question was directed to Makita, and your statement inferring that I was 'clueless' and that I needed to 'use my brain' were not appreciated. I have asked HD to remove your response but have yet to do so, because of that, I just returned $300 worth of merchandise to HD (plunge router, router table and hand planer) and may stop going there. That is a shame, because while I am not a contractor or in the construction industry, I have spent close to $4,000 at HD this year. I am a DYI person who has thousands of dollars in tools including Ryobi, Milwaukee, Makita and Rigid. In fact, a fair portion of the people who work at HD know me and while in their store, I actually help their customers. With that being said, Makita does NOT provide a warning not to use Their extension with Their 2" bits (either in this set, or the extension sold separately). Other 2" bits from other manufactures do Not get locked. (I have tested this.) In my case, I needed to screw in some #2 square pocket-hole screws for a project I was working on and my 6" #2 bit was too long. Makita's 2" bit and extension fit perfectly for this unique situation. (Unfortunately, they became permanently locked together.) While it is clear that you use these items frequently, your comment "This is all stuff you learn the hard way by using these tools." is not a great defense for Makita and their reputation for quality products. With that being said, one should not have to 'learn the hard way' when using this set, nor should gift-givers of these sets have to apologize to gift-recipients when this happens to them, nor should the gift recipients have to return their gifts to HD for a refund. So far, 7 out of 45 people have complained about this enough to post negative comments about this set which is not good, seeing that half of those 45 ratings didn't have comments which give little credibility to their ratings. Makita should include a note/warning not to use their extension with their 2" bits to at least attempt to prevent people from having to 'learn the hard way' as you mentioned.

Asked by TooManyTools December 14, 2019

Not true at least for my set, just got it today from the local HD. The long bits fit the extension just fine, not perfect, but fine. Some extensions I bought in the past did have this problem: any bits once attached I have to pull it out with pliers. But fortunately, not this Makita set.

How are these comparable (better or worse) to the gold tip bits by Makita?

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! If you put one of the longer bits in the magnetic bit holder, good luck getting it out. I have tried with vice grips and damaged both the bit and my vice grips and still unable to remove it. This is a poor design and wondering if their are some defects out there. Stick with Milwaukee or Dewalt.

This Makita impact driver has 100 pieces. It contains a wide variety of sizes to fit just about every need. The case is quality plastic and the tools themselves are high quality Makita products. I expect many years of trouble free usage from this product. I have a few impact drivers that I use frequently, and having this large variety pack is coming in very handy.

This has to be one of the most complete impact bit sets available. I’ll admit I tried to abuse a few of the Phillips and square bits to see if I could easily destroy them and honestly I could not. The would not strip or round off. The kit comes complete with multiple different sizes ph1-ph3,T10-T30,sq1-sq2,as well as extended shaft versions of some of the sizes as well. The set also has slotted bits too. It’s a great set to own if your looking for strong tough bits that won’t let you down.

If it is from Makita, you know it's quality tooling and will be durable. This assortment comes in a wide variety of sizes and types including Phillips, slotted, Torx, square and hex with multiples of some sizes in case of wear or being lost. These impact bits are designed to withstand the stress of impact driving because they are heat-treated for greater durability while still allowing more flex than standard bits. They are constructed of high quality steel with precision-machined tips to ensure full contact fit. This set is especially useful for DIYers like me because they work equally well with hand-held drivers too. I also like that the bit sizing is clearly marked on the tip-out trays with a few open spaces left in the two cases for specialty bits, e.g.-Tamper-proof Hex Bits.
