Questions & Answers

I am installing this flooring, glue assist, to a plywood subfloor above a crawlspace and I cannot determine what underlay to use. The manufacturer install guide does not clarify what is an appropriate underlayment thickness for an installation like this.
ByJun 30, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

When installing full spread glue down, or glue assist with staple, you do not use an underlayment. Underlayment only used when floating a floor. For further assistance call our Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168

What is a good stain for some stair treads to go with this flooring?
    ByJun 14, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Suggest you take a medium tone (light, medium, dark planks choose the middle color range) flooring plank to your local store's paint department and develop a custom stain that will coordinate with the flooring, then stain and finish the moldings as needed.

I've look at the installation manual but still have question about the type of fastener I can use. Is a 16ga L cleat ok to use or do I have to use 19ga staples? This is for the 1/2in thick, 7in wide Delano planks.

I received a sample of Delano French Oak and it feels like there is no finish on it. Kind of a rough feel to it. Is this normal because I wanted a smooth finish.

is it ok to use with radiant heat
                ByFeb 26, 2025
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

YES: RADIANT HEAT (ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING): Please follow the guidelines in the Installation Guide attached to each product listing page under "Additional Resources From the Manufacturer". Radiant Heat Systems • The radiant heat system must have been tested and in operation for a few weeks prior to installation. • The radiant heating system needs to be turned off prior to installation and the floor needs to be close to room temperature 65 to 75 degrees. If the radiant heat pipes are visible or exposed in the subfloor, you must cover them with 3/8” plywood to spread heat more evenly. • After the flooring is installed, slowly raise the temperature to the preferred comfort level (over at least a 5 day timeframe) beginning two days after installation or at the onset of colder weather conditions. • The radiant heat system must be controlled and the surface temperature of the flooring must never be allowed to exceed 85°F. • Proper relative humidity must be maintained within your home at all times during the year. For best results and to minimize seasonal gaps keep indoor humidity between 30% to 50% RH. If you are in an arid part of the USA or Canada, it is especially imperative that you use a humidifying system to maintain this moisture in the air. • Forced air heating system also can dry out the air inside your house much more than you might imagine, so use of a Relative Humidity meter(Hygrometer) is recommended to ensure you know when you must use a humidifier to keep the relative humidity above 30%. • Even when these guidelines are followed it is still possible that your flooring may experience some cracks (seasonal checking) on the plank surface and/or gapping between planks due to slight shrinkage, which are not covered by the products limited warranty.

                  Knockoffs
Ordered 45 boxes and they delivered the completely wrong item. The model numbers didn't match up nor did the colors with the sample I purchased (that had the Malibu brand sticker on it) and the boxes didn't even indicate Malibu Wide Plank or any brand whatsoever. Seemed like a knockoff. Now I have to wait for them to call me to schedule a pick-up of the delivery in order to get a refund, then I have to order them again.

This review is not based on performance or quality of this Malibu Wide Plank Flooring. Sunset Cliffs French Oak 1/2 in. T x 7.5 in. W Tongue & Groove Wirebrushed Engineered Hardwood Flooring is Internet # 308037924 and Model # HDMRTG203EF. The Model # on your Brown Box cartons is MRTG203. If your cartons have MRTG203, then you have the correct cartons. Most of Malibu Wide Plank will be shipped in a generic "Engineered Hardwood Flooring" Carton, as unless its stocked in a Home Depot store, it does not need a full color carton, with room scenes etc. Hardwood samples are available online in a board width x 7" Length size; are available to order on each product listing page. Unless multiple samples are purchased it can sometimes be challenging to see the true color from such a small sample size as Engineered Hardwood has natural color variation and will have lighter, medium, and darker tone planks inside each carton. We do suggest when installed the installer works out of multiple cartons to blend the flooring together so you have beautiful installation showing the breadth of color throughout the installation. We do suggest reaching out to our customer service department for further communication. For further assistance on all Malibu Wide Plank Flooring please call our customer service department at 650-416-7300 or Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168. JasonMWP
                    Be Cautious
                    - Purchased 34 boxes to refloor my entire house - 1 box received was used flooring as it had cuts out of it - 3 boxes received were a different color than expected - Placed two additional orders, hoping for matching color, but they did not match - Concern about inability to match the color at this point - Questioning why different colors were sent in the same order when they should have known they wouldn't match - Home Depot is attempting to assist, but supplier issues are a significant concern - Overall like the flooring (despite it being easy to scratch, which I expected from reviews) - Frustrated with the color matching issue and used flooring - I only need 4 more boxes to finish my house - Not very unhappy with the situation, and would advise others to stay away - I'm hoping the supplier will see this and make it right

Addressing concerns appreciate your feedback. (1) Box with cuts, this appears to be a returned box where someone cut planks, sealed up carton as if not used, and returned to store for a credit, when we received it back was in sellable condition. (3) boxes with color variation, all hardwood flooring has natural color variation light, medium and darker plankswhich should be mixed with all total cartons and randomly inserted for good consistent color variation within your installed floor.
Scratches will occur if use/care manual is not followed with ways to protect flooring by using felt protectors underneath Chairs etc. For further assistance on all Malibu Wide Plank Flooring please call our customer service department at 650-416-7300 or for installation or technical assistance please try Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168. No water protection
Has almost no water protection. If water is left on cracks over night they turn dark and discolor also finish will flake off. Because of this I Can’t recommend and am highly disappointed.

Our Hardwood Collection would be considered Water Resistant and is an excellent choice for all rooms in your home including kitchens and half Baths. If you review the definition of "water resistant" = able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely, most hardwood flooring would fall under this category, however key is how long the water, spill, liquid stays on the floor. If you spill water, drips from dishwasher, or track in water from outside etc, solution would be cleaning/drying up the spill. If you clean up the liquid within a reasonable timeline, there should be no issues. If you have a pipse or dishwasher leak in your home, then even though you decided to purchase a "Waterproof" flooring option, the installation will also need to be waterproof. If there is a major flood in your home, more than likely homeowners’ insurance would need to be involved based on monetary amount it would cost to attempt to salvage floor, do water remediation, re-install a new floor, rip out damaged floor etc. Hardwood Flooring is the flooring of choice among the majority of homeowners, is extremely durable, easy to maintain, and an excellent investment in your home. No matching stair nose
Do not buy this flooring if you have any stairs. We ordered 1000 sq ft.of it and really liked it. But Home Depot doesn’t have a matching stair nose. The website lists one but it isn’t even a remote match and has the wrong dimensions. We spent 3 months trying to find a matching stair nose at other flooring stores w/o any luck. We returned everything and wasted a ton of time. Hopefully this helps someone else.

                          Buyer Beware
Scratches and dents extremely easily. Does not stand up to any sort of water droplets. The grains will raise and discolor. DO NOT buy this flooring if you have kids or pets. We wasted over $10,000 and hate our floors.

Hardwood Flooring is very durable, however If you look up the definition of scratch resistant it essentially means that the product is able to withstand minor scratches. There are ways to prevent scratches on Hardwood Flooring by taking proper precautions to protect furniture and chair legs and feet with felt protectors. Moving heavy objects without a dolly and/or protective plywood beneath may cause damage to any type of flooring. Damage may also occur from spiked and/or high heels and pet claws. Falling objects can also dent or fracture any type of flooring.

Scratching to any hard surface floor may occur if proper precautions are not taken, here are a few steps we suggest: Protect your floor when using a dolly for moving furniture or appliances. Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the floor. • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and other heavy objects. • Minimize abrasive material and dirt by placing mats on both sides of exterior doors and by using area rugs in high traffic areas • Use protective mats beneath rolling chairs and keep furniture casters clean. • Keep pets’ nails trimmed. • Remove shoes with cleats, spikes or exceptionally pointy heels before walking on the floor JasonMWP

                              Get this floor!
Alright friends. Had to come on here to write a review because my wife and I spent weeks trying to figure out what color finish to go with. Let me encourage you with this… you will not regret this flooring. Install was easy (as far as flooring goes.) My brother, dad and I did a 1400 square foot space in our home in about 2 1/2 days. For the color, I highly recommended you thumb through the photos in the reviews. This is Delano. Not as “white-gray washed” as Newport. Not as dark as Belmont. Enjoy

This engineered wood seems to be high quality! Have used over 800sq so far and not one piece has been unusable. 99% knock into the tongue and groove with zero gap between the next board! Time will tell how the durability is, applying over radiant floor heat!
