Questions & Answers

Can this floor be instaled over QEP 6 mm Natural Cork in a plywood (second floor) foundation? I am planning on using ROBERTS 7250 Cork Adhesive for the cork and then ROBERTS 1487 to glue the floor to the cork.
ByAug 15, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. Yes, Delano French Oak engineered hardwood can be glue-down installed over an approved acoustical cork underlayment, provided the complete installation meets the following requirements: Acoustical Cork Underlayment – Glue Down Only: The cork must be fully adhered to the plywood subfloor according to the cork manufacturer's instructions. It must be pure granulated cork combined with a polyurethane binder, with a minimum density of 11.4 lbs./cu. ft. and not exceeding 13 lbs./cu. ft. A moisture-cured, non-water-based adhesive must be used to adhere the cork to the subfloor. The adhesive used to glue the engineered hardwood to the cork must also be non-water-based. The ROBERTS adhesives referenced are acrylic-based and may contain water, so we would not recommend those adhesives for this installation. A compatible urethane-based adhesive should be used to help prevent moisture-related cupping of the hardwood. Please verify that the QEP 6 mm cork meets the density and composition requirements above and follow the cork, adhesive, and Malibu Wide Plank installation instructions before proceeding. For additional installation assistance, please contact Home Depot Technical Services at 800-928-6168.

Do the click lock floors require glue? the specification say adhesive installation, but the video does not show that glue is required.
      ByJul 10, 2026
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

No, glue is not required when installing Sunset Cliffs using the click-lock floating installation method. This engineered hardwood floor is designed to click together and float over an approved underlayment that is no thicker than 2mm. When installed as a floating floor, no adhesive is needed. A full-spread glue-down installation is also an approved option, which is why the product specifications may reference adhesive installation. The correct method depends on the subfloor and your preferred installation approach. Please follow the Installation Guide located under “Additional Resources From the Manufacturer” on the product listing page. For installation assistance, contact Home Depot Technical Services at 800-928-6168.

Does wire brushed surface trap dirt
        ByJul 4, 2026
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

No. A Light Wire Brush surface will not collect or trap dirt when properly maintained. We recommend vacuuming the floor first using a vacuum designed for hard surface flooring or a soft-bristle floor attachment to remove dust and debris. After vacuuming, clean the floor with a microfiber mop and an approved hardwood floor cleaner. Vacuuming first is important because using a damp mop alone can push fine dirt into the textured surface rather than removing it. With this simple cleaning routine, your engineered hardwood floor will remain easy to maintain and continue looking its best for years.

What is the best installation method over a plywood subfloor
          ByJun 29, 2026
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. Over a plywood subfloor, the preferred installation method for this 1/2 in. Tongue & Groove engineered hardwood is full-spread glue-down using a premium wood flooring adhesive. It may also be stapled or nailed to an approved wood subfloor using the appropriate fasteners and installation schedule outlined in the installation instructions. Always ensure the plywood subfloor is clean, dry, flat, and structurally sound before installation. Please refer to the Installation Guide under "Additional Resources from the Manufacturer" on the product page for complete installation requirements.

I plan to install it as a floating floor over a concrete slab. Does this glue work? MAPEI Ultrabond ECO 903 Multi-floor Multi-purpose Flooring Adhesive, Item #2366586, Model #2487637
            ByJun 8, 2026
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. Yes, the Roosevelt French Oak 1/2 in. Engineered Hardwood Flooring can be installed as a floating floor over a properly prepared concrete slab, provided all installation guidelines are followed. For a floating tongue-and-groove hardwood installation, the typical method is to apply a **PVA tongue-and-groove wood flooring adhesive** directly into the groove before engaging the next plank. Apply a small continuous bead of adhesive in the upper groove, engage the tongue into the groove, wipe off any excess adhesive immediately, and use straps or blue painter's tape as needed to hold rows tightly together while the adhesive cures. Be sure to maintain the required perimeter expansion space around all vertical obstructions. The **MAPEI Ultrabond ECO 903 Multi-Floor Adhesive** you referenced is primarily designed as a full-spread flooring adhesive for glue-down installations. If you are planning a floating installation, a **PVA tongue-and-groove wood flooring adhesive specifically designed for floating engineered hardwood flooring** is typically recommended for bonding the plank joints together rather than using a full-spread adhesive beneath the floor. Please ensure the concrete slab is clean, dry, flat, and properly tested for moisture prior to installation. Follow all underlayment and moisture barrier requirements outlined in the installation guide. Please refer to the detailed Installation Guide located under "Additional Resources from the Manufacturer" on the product listing page. For additional installation assistance, please contact Home Depot Technical Services at **800-928-6168**.

              Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. If you are planning to install the Roosevelt French Oak 1/2 in. Engineered Hardwood Flooring as a floating floor over a concrete slab, an underlayment and moisture barrier are required. There are several underlayment options available depending on your floating floor installation requirements, including desired STC (Sound Transmission Classification) and IIC (Impact Insulation Classification) performance. No thicker than 2 mm underlayment is recommended, as excessively thick underlayments can allow too much vertical movement and deflection, placing additional stress on the tongue-and-groove joints. Recommended underlayments include: Dekorman Blue Foam Underlayment – Internet #306722713, Model #2BF1 Blue Foam Underlayment, 2 mm Thick x 3.3 ft. W x 30.5 ft. L (100 sq. ft./Roll) FloorMuffler Premium Underlayment – Internet #204077418, Model #0264049 Premium Underlayment, 2 mm Thick (100 sq. ft.) If a moisture barrier only is required due to installation over a concrete slab, you may use: Roberts Moisture Barricade Polyethylene Underlay Film – Internet #100578718 6 mil Polyethylene Moisture Barrier, 10 ft. x 12 ft. (120 sq. ft.) For a floating tongue-and-groove installation, use a PVA tongue-and-groove wood flooring adhesive applied directly into the groove before engaging the next plank. Apply a small continuous bead of adhesive in the upper groove, engage the tongue into the groove, wipe away any excess adhesive immediately, and use straps or blue painter's tape as needed to keep rows tight while the adhesive cures. Be sure to maintain the required perimeter expansion space around all walls and vertical obstructions. If installing as a floating floor over a wood subfloor, #15 building felt or Aquabar-type material may be used as the underlayment layer. Please ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, flat, and properly tested for moisture prior to installation. Please follow the detailed installation instructions in our Installation Guide located under "Additional Resources from the Manufacturer" on the product listing page. For assistance and troubleshooting, please contact Home Depot Technical Services at 800-928-6168.

Is this commercial grade and will it stand up to dogs and heavy traffic in the kitchen area?
                ByMay 3, 2026

                Answer This Question

Malibu Wide Plank Belmont French Oak is a residential engineered hardwood floor with a 5-Year Light Commercial Warranty, not a full commercial-grade floor. It is constructed with a durable real French Oak veneer and protected by 7 layers of super low gloss urethane finish with aluminum oxide, which helps provide strong resistance to everyday wear, scratches, and dents. For homes with dogs and heavy kitchen traffic, it performs very well when proper precautions are taken—felt pads under furniture, rugs at entry points, keeping pet nails trimmed, and quickly cleaning up water or spills are all important. Hardwood is scratch resistant, not scratch proof, so active pets and heavy use will still create wear over time. For kitchens, it is considered water resistant but not waterproof, so standing water should be avoided. If you need maximum scratch and moisture resistance for large dogs or very high traffic areas, a rigid core luxury vinyl plank may be the better choice. However, if you prefer the warmth and value of real hardwood, Belmont is an excellent option when properly maintained.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

French Oak Delano 1/2" is a genuine engineered hardwood product featuring a real sliced oak veneer with a durable factory-applied finish. As with all authentic hardwood flooring, the surface can show scratches under certain conditions.

Regarding visible white scratches shortly after installation:

                  • Long, light-colored marks are typically surface-level abrasions affecting the finish rather than the wood itself.
                  • Abrasive debris (sand, grit), unprotected furniture legs, appliances, ladders, or pet nails can cause noticeable marks — especially during the first weeks of occupancy when construction traffic may still be present.
                  • Using felt pads, protective mats at entry points, and keeping the floor free of abrasive particles significantly reduces this type of wear.

Hardwood floors offer natural beauty and warmth, but they are not scratch-proof like laminate or rigid-core products. They are designed to age naturally and develop character over time.

If the scratching appears excessive or unusual, we’re happy to review photos and discuss directly.

We absolutely love this flooring! The color is a beautiful mix of light and dark neutrals that looks great with our mid-century and modern farmhouse decor. The wide plank with various lengths is very modern and doesn’t look busy in a large space. It has held up great to daily foot traffic and two busy dogs, with no scratches.

                    Beautiful but tricky!
I installed the Point Loma French Oak 1.5 inch thick and 7.5 inch width engineered wood flooring in my apartment and it is gorgeous! It looks better in real life than in photos. The color is a creamy beige that lightens my whole apartment and gives it a luxurious and elegant look. Getting the order delivered was tricky though. My initial order was canceled and I had to place another order which took three weeks to be delivered. The carry-in service was also a little disappointing because I expected the wood to be delivered to my apartment on the second floor of my building, but it could only only be delivered to the building lobby which was impractical. I had to ask the building super and the building handyman to carry the 2,100 lbs of wood flooring into my apartment! All in all, I recommend the product but be mindful of potential delays and if you live in a building, make sure you have people lined up to carry in the wood.

                      Knockoffs
Ordered 45 boxes and they delivered the completely wrong item. The model numbers didn't match up nor did the colors with the sample I purchased (that had the Malibu brand sticker on it) and the boxes didn't even indicate Malibu Wide Plank or any brand whatsoever. Seemed like a knockoff. Now I have to wait for them to call me to schedule a pick-up of the delivery in order to get a refund, then I have to order them again.

This review is not based on performance or quality of this Malibu Wide Plank Flooring. Sunset Cliffs French Oak 1/2 in. T x 7.5 in. W Tongue & Groove Wirebrushed Engineered Hardwood Flooring is Internet # 308037924 and Model # HDMRTG203EF. The Model # on your Brown Box cartons is MRTG203. If your cartons have MRTG203, then you have the correct cartons. Most of Malibu Wide Plank will be shipped in a generic "Engineered Hardwood Flooring" Carton, as unless its stocked in a Home Depot store, it does not need a full color carton, with room scenes etc. Hardwood samples are available online in a board width x 7" Length size; are available to order on each product listing page. Unless multiple samples are purchased it can sometimes be challenging to see the true color from such a small sample size as Engineered Hardwood has natural color variation and will have lighter, medium, and darker tone planks inside each carton. We do suggest when installed the installer works out of multiple cartons to blend the flooring together so you have beautiful installation showing the breadth of color throughout the installation. We do suggest reaching out to our customer service department for further communication. For further assistance on all Malibu Wide Plank Flooring please call our customer service department at 650-416-7300 or Home Depot Technical Services department @ 800-928-6168. JasonMWP

                        No water protection
Has almost no water protection. If water is left on cracks over night they turn dark and discolor also finish will flake off. Because of this I Can’t recommend and am highly disappointed.

Our Hardwood Collection would be considered Water Resistant and is an excellent choice for all rooms in your home including kitchens and half Baths. If you review the definition of "water resistant" = able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely, most hardwood flooring would fall under this category, however key is how long the water, spill, liquid stays on the floor. If you spill water, drips from dishwasher, or track in water from outside etc, solution would be cleaning/drying up the spill. If you clean up the liquid within a reasonable timeline, there should be no issues. If you have a pipse or dishwasher leak in your home, then even though you decided to purchase a "Waterproof" flooring option, the installation will also need to be waterproof. If there is a major flood in your home, more than likely homeowners’ insurance would need to be involved based on monetary amount it would cost to attempt to salvage floor, do water remediation, re-install a new floor, rip out damaged floor etc. Hardwood Flooring is the flooring of choice among the majority of homeowners, is extremely durable, easy to maintain, and an excellent investment in your home. Scratches and dents extremely easily. Does not stand up to any sort of water droplets. The grains will raise and discolor. DO NOT buy this flooring if you have kids or pets. We wasted over $10,000 and hate our floors.

Hardwood Flooring is very durable, however If you look up the definition of scratch resistant it essentially means that the product is able to withstand minor scratches. There are ways to prevent scratches on Hardwood Flooring by taking proper precautions to protect furniture and chair legs and feet with felt protectors. Moving heavy objects without a dolly and/or protective plywood beneath may cause damage to any type of flooring. Damage may also occur from spiked and/or high heels and pet claws. Falling objects can also dent or fracture any type of flooring.

Scratching to any hard surface floor may occur if proper precautions are not taken, here are a few steps we suggest: Protect your floor when using a dolly for moving furniture or appliances. Never slide or roll heavy furniture or appliances across the floor. • Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and other heavy objects. • Minimize abrasive material and dirt by placing mats on both sides of exterior doors and by using area rugs in high traffic areas • Use protective mats beneath rolling chairs and keep furniture casters clean. • Keep pets’ nails trimmed. • Remove shoes with cleats, spikes or exceptionally pointy heels before walking on the floor JasonMWP
