Has anyone ordered the french oak La Playa? I would love to see a photo of it!

Asked by amanda1133 October 22, 2020

Answer

The digital images and room scene for this product are very accurate as the actual flooring was installed in a home to photograph the room scene. Samples are available online in a 5" x 7"format. Unless multiple samples are purchased it can sometimes be challenging to see the true color from such a small sample size. This stunning Engineered Flooring collection comes in either a Click Lock 3/8” Thick x 6.5” Wide x Lengths to 47.6” or a Tongue & Groove 1/2” Thick x 7.5” wide x lengths to 74.8" and utilizes character graded French Oak hardwood to meet our design specifications. This character grade may include naturally occurring cracks, splits, knotholes, mineral streaks, filler for stability, etc. Due to the nature of natural hardwood flooring there can be a difference in samples and the received product due to a variety of issues, including color/tone, naturally occurring character imperfections such as knotholes and mineral streaks, etc, as well as grain orientation.

Technical Data Sheets for these adhesive can be found on the adhesive manufactures website. Technical data sheets provide the guidelines for approved subfloors, approved floors, subfloor prep, cure times, and trowel sizes among other information.

For Malibu Wide Plank Engineered Hardwood Flooring, The installation guide states: ACCLIMATION/MOISTURE TESTING:  After purchase / delivery the flooring must be stored inside the home, and allowed to acclimate in the rooms, where it will be installed. Flooring is typically ready to install the day it arrives as long as normal living conditions are present. (60-80 degrees and 30% -50% relative humidity, otherwise acclimate as long as necessary for the environment.  For best results the rooms should be maintained between 60F – 80F, with a humidity range between 30% to 50%. Engineered Hardwood Flooring is very dimensionally stable as the cross-ply construction limits expansion and contraction when climate controlled conditions are maintained within the home.

The Malibu Wide Plank Hardwood Flooring collections are all 100% hardwood, and do not come with any pad attached with is more common with plastic floors designed to imitate real hardwood. If you choose to float the floor an underlayment approved for hardwood flooring installation would be best option with numerous types available on www.homedepot.com.

French Oak Delano flooring has such an amazing look to it! The modest plank to plank color variation and natural tones with matte finish really have this product stand out as one of the most beautiful floors I've ever seen. The wide and long planks set this apart from my previous flooring and most other floors I've seen. Finally the saw face veneer gives the appearance of a solid wood floor. The construction is excellent and I can already tell I'm going to be very happy with this floor for many, many years to come.

INSTALLATION_This floor is my first install. I agree with other reviews that said installation was easy. Things to consider are the staggering and installation method. The varying length at times made the job go slower because I had to be mindful of the stagger and most pieces in each box were long. I decided not to staple but to float the floor. It is still moving after 2 weeks. I keep pulling out my pull bar and taping the ends because I can since my baseboard isn't back on yet. Perhaps my expansion gaps along the walls are too wide. COLOR_ It is exactly what I wanted even though I took a risk and didn't order a sample. The color is not far off from the picture. There is lots of color variation between boards. Tones go from grayish to reddish so if you want it all one color, choose something else. I really like it.

I’m am very disappointed with not only the floor, but the customer service of both Home Depot and the manufacturers. If you look at the pictures provided, you will see a vast color difference between the stair nose molding and the planks. Both colors are ordered as “French Oak La Playa.” Neither Home Depot or the manufacturers can account for the color discrepancy nor remedy the situation. I would, therefore, highly recommend against using this product if hardwood is required on any stairs or elevations.

We spent a lot of time looking at various flooring options ranging from luxury vinyl to laminate and engineered hardwood. In the end, we selected the 7 1/2" plank Belmont. Even though the wider planks were about $1 more per square foot, the thicker wear layer and longer boards were well worth the money spent. As for the color, the floors turned out exactly the way we were hoping, although we were nervous about ordering them without being able to see them in store. We've had the flooring installed for about four months now, and they seem to be pretty durable. The ultra low gloss finish is not only what we were hoping for in terms of style, but it also helps with the wear. We have four young kids and a large dog, but scuffs and minor dents are hardly noticeable. We have had hardwood flooring in other houses, and this was not the case. Overall, we are very pleased with the flooring.

We purchased over 1000 sq feet of the French Oak Delano sight unseen, after studying every other sample of Malibu Wide Plank available in the store. When it arrived (quicker than expected!) we were thrilled! My family installed the flooring ourselves using the floating technique. My teenage sons were able to cut the boards as needed (they just finished building trades class at the high school) with the small saw we purchased for this project. (My husband was working full time and my boys and I did the job on our summer vacation, my husband helping when he was home.) We enjoyed the beauty of each board and are so happy to have replaced the three different floors (carpet, laminate, and tile) that we had with one solid surface. Our house looks so much bigger! The wood does have the potential to dent, that is part of the give and take when you use real wood. This wood is a real nice mix of colors (orange, yellow, cream, gray) and changes depending on the lighting. I have been really happy with the way that it goes well with the paint and furniture colors in each room. We have been living on the floor for about two weeks. It is settling and there is less movement in it now. At first we were a little worried about this. I suggest that you get the best underlayment that you can. The floor is louder than we expected when we walk on it. (We are used to old carpet.) We have commented on how nice the wood smells too. My house feels more natural and so much cleaner than before. We love it!

Ordered Delano, Sunset Cliffs and Point Loma to get a better sense of how these colors look in my house. This review is mainly for color comparison before purchasing for the whole house. My contractor has not installed this so don't mind the open seams in these photos. We ruled out Point Loma immediately because it was too light for us - had a milky white wash to it with grayish tint. From the photos in the other review, I had high hope for this color because it looked like it was the shade I was looking for. But alas, it was too light for us. I was hoping to love Sunset Cliffs as I was looking for a light blond wood with a hint of smokiness. The yellow tone and gray in this turned the wood a little mustardy to me. It was the darkest of the 3. We have mostly north facing windows so this was a little too dark for our house. What I loved about Sunset was that the shade appeared to be uniform throughout all the planks, unlike Delano. Of the 3 colors, Delano came closest to what I was looking for. It's very natural looking and versatile, not too light and not too dark. My daughter's medium beige fabric-covered headboard coordinated well with it as was my dark gray fabric headboard. Delano had more variation in shades than the other 2 colors but after I lay all the planks out, they appeared much more uniform. In the photo with the target bag, note that the 4th plank from the left is actually Delano. It looked a lot lighter than the other 3 Delano planks to its left that you can mistaken it for Point Loma which are the 2 light planks to its right. But Delano has more of a blond shade to it when compared to the 2 rows of Point Loma. When all the planks from the box were laid out, the shade variation was less noticeable to me. I also included photos of just Delano by itself. That was all the planks from one box. Delano was the winner for us! Colors in photos under LED light at night appear to be closest to what I see in real life both at night and during the day. Definitely order a box to compare colors because in different conditions (light, wall paint), it wasn't possible to capture their true colors in these photos.

The color is perfect! The samples we ordered were light in color but once you get everything install it looks so good. So if you feel like the sample is too light, I recommend ordering a box and laying it all out. There is some variations between planks. Looks great with our grey and white furniture. Installation was easy.

The color is a little bit darker than on the screen. The finish of the surface is great but the gaps between pieces could be smaller. Overall a good buy.

This floor features hand rolled edges and ends, any gapping is more than likely installation related. JasonMWP
