I live in south Florida. I am concerned about high winds blowing water in through the ventilator to the attic. I know from other answers that it's Miami-Dade county rated, but so far as I know that's rating on penetration resistance to flying objects. What about water?

I live in Florida. Yes, It has leaked a little bit. Most important is making sure its the outside rim is a foot below roof ridge. or about. Had mine in 16 years. During a cat 4 hurricane, it leaked a little bit. But hey I still have a roof. LOL. It is better to have a roof vent than a gable vent in Florida because of the static pressure which could take off your roof in a hurricane.

We currently do not have a Decibel rating on the ERV Series Attic Fans. The PR Series, the older version was rating at 44 Decibels.

The only limit is how much return air is available. You cannot exhaust more than you can supply without shortening the life of the motor.

Customer Reviews

1000 CFM Weathered Wood Power Roof Mount Attic Fan is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 145.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from just had it in for a week, seems to be a superb product my only complaint was the fact that a fan blade was bent just a little from from packing and shipping> the thermostst was was just lying inside the the fan blades, thus one blade was bent just a tad. thought about taking it back but realizing they were all packed the same I kept this one. hooked it up on the work bench and it sounded like a helicopter taking off. spent a little time (15 minutes) re aligning the blades and now you can't hear it run unless your're real close to it. on the roof and running for a week or better. so quiet you can't hear it in the house at all. have it set to come on at about 102 degrees and it shuts off at about 98 degrees. the temperature used to get to 135-140 degrees in the afternoon, now it only goes to 115 yes I have a thermometer in the attic to check the temps. the attic is 1728 square feet, so I think this is the answer to a cooler house. and less work for the A.C. unit

However, it is all metal v the one we replaced, which had a plastic base and top...both which were cracked and weakened. The old motor had also failed. Looking forward to excellent service from this unit.

Installation was easy, I only needed a pencil, saw, hammer, flat pry bar, roofing nails, 1 tube of roof pitch, utility knife, and enough wire to run from my power source to the fan. The top half will go underneath two rows of shingles, the bottom will be on top of two rows. With the 1500 cfm fan, I'm showing steady electric use of 170 watts. At my electric cost of 13 cents per kWh, fan operation costs 2.2 cents per hour. My AC air handler is in my attic; the system does seem to run slightly less often, shorter cycles, and does not blow nearly as much hot air at the start of a cycle. I installed some additional vents in my soffits and front porch ceiling to ensure good air circulation.

The instillation was straight forward, however the instruction manual was poorly illustrated and lacked well written detailed instructions. After instillation and wiring, the motor ran extremely hot and made a loud noise. I called Home Depot, They told me to bring in the motor, and they would exchange it with one from a new box. Two days later, I did just that, only to find out that there were no fans in stock. They are on back order and I now have an expensive, non powered vent.
