Just had Masterflow EGEV5 installed in attic. The thermostat was set at 90 but was operational when it was only 75 degrees outside. I read the instructional information which suggests 105 degrees as the set point but in Southern California that it too high to begin cooling down . So I did some trial and error and found that anything less than 90 deg. on thermostat when the outside temp was 73 or higher deg. would trigger it to come on. I am currently setting it at 95 deg. and it has not turned on in 80 deg. weather. If it continues to run prematurely the available options to me currently appear to be moving the themostat to a different location or returning the fan. My real concern is if I call my electricinan for continuing work regarding the fan he may charge me for further services. I have attempted to contact 1 -800-2119612 twice but have not been able to get through to Masterflow. Appreciate any suggestions. CET

Can you wire it to a timer? The reason they suggest 105 is that the attic super heats way above the outside temp & in So Cal the attic will get to 130-160 on hot days, so it is better to have it pulling in 90-100' air to replace the 130+ air, but the real value is when the outside air starts to cool & the fan pull in the cool outside air like 70' in evening. I always found the best solution was to have it on a switch or a timer so you could turn it on at noon & off at midnight. They now have smart ones that are WiFi like my thermostat & you can turn it on & off with your phone via WiFi home network. That model at HD is $139 I believe. Go on line to https://www.synergycompanies.org/ & sign up for free home energy savings, I got a free NEST WiFi thermostat value $139 & a fan delay on my AC, plus an air flow check. They also have free water saving shower heads & sink aerators. This was just done for me in July 2018 in San Dimas, CA.

If i mount this against a smaller size vent opening , lets say 12x15, will there be any other issues besides the fan not performing as well?

Asked by: Oldmanattic
The fan will have considerable more blow back into the fan without the proper size opening. This can cause improper ventilation of your attic. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please call Technical Services at 800-211-9612.
