Just had Masterflow EGEV5 installed in attic. The thermostat was set at 90 but was operational when it was only 75 degrees outside. I read the instructional information which suggests 105 degrees as the set point but in Southern California that it too high to begin cooling down . So I did some trial and error and found that anything less than 90 deg. on thermostat when the outside temp was 73 or higher deg. would trigger it to come on. I am currently setting it at 95 deg. and it has not turned on in 80 deg. weather. If it continues to run prematurely the available options to me currently appear to be moving the themostat to a different location or returning the fan. My real concern is if I call my electricinan for continuing work regarding the fan he may charge me for further services. I have attempted to contact 1 -800-2119612 twice but have not been able to get through to Masterflow. Appreciate any suggestions. CET

Same issues. However, I resolved it by installing a single pole toggle switch just below the attic access. Works fine everytime.

Our electrician just installed a Master Flow 1450 CFM Power Gable Mount Attic Fan GAF EGV5 Power Attic Vent Fan in front of a gable vent. He checked all mounting brackets before attaching to the wall. He cushioned the attachment to the wall with rubber spacers to decrease vibration. When the fan is on, it transmits a very noticable pulsating hum, like the sound of a clothes dryer with only one wet towel spinning in it. He made sure that the unit was not wobbling. What can cause the fan to make this noise? And is there anything that can be done to eliminate or decrease this pulsating hum. Thanks
Asked by: Rod
It is possible you are hearing "60 Cycle Hum". All electric motors have that hum: refrigerators, dishwashers, etc. However, it is possible that the blades are not balanced (like a tire) which could be the culprit. Have an HD service tech check it out.

NO, proper attic ventilation requires static intake from the soffits. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please call Technical Services at 800-211-9612.

I hope this helps...….I bought this fan as well as the QuiteCool (Red Fan) to see which is better. I will start by saying that they are both excellent fans but they serve different purposes depending upon your needs. The MasterFlow is pin drop quite which is great and it is also well made but it is a little weak on the air flow and will not in my opinion handle an attic over 1600 square feet or so. The QuiteCool is like a vortex in your attic and it has incredible power and is extremely well made. The trade off is that it is much noisier and it vibrates some too. The bottom line, if you have a small attic then go with this one, if your attic is bigger like mine then go with the QuiteCool because that fan will definitely do the job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this fan to replace one I bought 5... I bought this fan to replace one I bought 5 years ago which had begun to make a loud noise. This Master Flow replacement was a good fit, easy to wire, and very quiet. The adjustable thermostat is easy to set. It was a bit inconvenient to bolt on the "mounting tabs". Do that before you take it to the hot attic. It's also a bit awkward for one person to mount the fan above head high. If you must work alone and it's not possible to take a step ladder into your attic, take some sort of board or pole to engineer a "dead man" method of assistance to hold the fan in place while you install a screw into the first tab.

Unfortunately, when turned on it made a loud rattling sound. The masterflow help line was no help. They said it was either an install error or miss sized fan for the attic size.

I was most impressed with how quiet the unit was when it was running. This was a replacement to an existing fan that had quit working last summer. After installing the new unit, I literally had to go outside to ensure that it was running. It is directly over my bedroom and the old unit was MUCH louder. The new one has only been installed for about a week, so I can't speak on the reliability, but I am definitely impressed with how quiet the new unit is.

This purchase was a replacement for a MasterFlow Gable vent fan that no longer worked. We have installed MasterFlow Gable vent fans previously. The model number has changed but all have functioned the same. Each fan has lasted about 10 years. It is easy to install. The recommended thermostat setting of 105 degrees has always worked for our house.

We use this to ventilate a room in the basement of a bar where the equipment that refrigerates the beer tap system is located, placing demands far in excess of the typical attic. For us these have run trouble-free for an average of I'd say 5 years, operating 24/7/365. Reliable, quiet and a bargain
