You wouldn't; this is used for repairing drywall along with other material to embed this tape into your repair area. Duct wrap insulation is used by itself (along with duct or foil tape to fasten) to insulate pipes, rafters or wall spaces

No, it is too course. a finer weave would be a better choice.
No there isn't a sticky side which did make it a bit difficult to install. The hole size on the roll is fairly large, so I coated the mesh with mastic to get it to stick to the surface I was taping.
