Will this saddle work to create a 4 inch branch off an existing 5 inch pipe? thanks

I purchased this part (45Y-S4) to tap into a 4 inch duct but decided the fit would not work properly, with large gaps. Compressing the saddle far enough to fit a 4 inch duct distorts the saddle too much. It appears to me that this would be a much better fit (perhaps a perfect fit) on a 5 to 6 inch duct....

Will this fit to branch off 9" rigid line?

Answer

Yes ... Depending on application requirements, a 90 degree T-Saddle, Air Tite Takeoff could also be used. Call Technical Care at 800-211-9612 for additional information.

Will this saddle be able to tap into 4-inch round ductwork?

My intention was to use this (45Y-S4) to tap into a 4 inch duct, however there was no way to make the saddle fit snugly as intended. There were large gaps and compressing the saddle that far would likely break the spot welds. It seems to me it would have fit a 5 to 6 inch duct perfectly. I did not use it....

I thought life was going well before this purchase. everything seem to be headed in the right direction. Little did I realize how the master flow 45° coupler could further enhance that. #GoWithTheFlow

Wye is well made. Perfect fit at connection (end of 45 angle). The only downside is the inability to get a tight fit when wrapping around the pipe to in which you have cut the opening. However, the fit is close enough that you can easily seal the gap with a duct joint compound. I would order again.

Worked as planned ... set against duct you are attaching to and using a black marker by going inside 45 degree and mark the diameter on the existing duct. Used aviation snips to remove area marked in black. Added caulking to the back side of wye to seal & self tapping sheet metal screws to attach. Would definitely use again!

Effective for dust collector
I used this wye to tie in to an existing 7" duct to my dust collector. Simple to install, traced the outline of hole to be cut in 7" duct, cut with snips and used self tapping 3/4" screws to attach wye, ran flexible 4" hose to new wye and it pulled chips from my planer fine. Simple and cheap, just what I was looking for.

Wouldn't work well for my applicaiton
I was planning to use this to insert air from an HRV system into existing duct work. First off ,the angle is somewhere between 45 and 90. Secondly, it did not seem like it would provide a tight fit to the 6" duct I was trying to tap into. Didn't work well for my application so I returned it.
