A:  The hood and pipe are connected, and they do not come apart. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please email warrantyllbp@gaf.com

A:  Vent and pipe are crimped together.  But you could cut them apart carefully with the right tool.

Q:could this be used for a fireplace vent?

      Answer This Question

A:  I would not recommend it for that, the draft produced by a fire would likely not push the vent open enough or even at all.

      by|Oct 5, 2023

        A:  No!! Absolutely not.

        by|Apr 1, 2022

A:  It may work, however there's a soft foam gasket along the flap which may melt with excessive heat.

          by|Mar 31, 2022

A:  This is an aluminum appliance vent, it would not be recommend to use for a fireplace.

A:  The screen would have to be cut out carefully using snips. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please email warrantyllbp@gaf.com or call Technical Services at 800-211-9612, Mon- Fri, 8 am 5 pm EST.

                  Better than plastic vents
Aluminum is not heavy duty, but seems sturdy enough. The old plastic vent disintegrated and rats got into the attic; this has the added metal screen. Do not use for a dryer vent. It has no pre-drilled holes, so you have to drill your own. The flap is not weighted, so it is light, which is something to consider. Another thing is that the front of the plate is flat, not beveled to "cup" the wall like plastic vents. It didn’t fit the existing hose, but we modified with tin snips.

                    Low end... High Price
Typical low end vent. Costs more than double what it should.

Chose to mount it on plywood in the bottom of my window. Added a lint trap below it, caulk around the plywood and some white paint and it looks and works great.

Vent opening and material was too cheap. Took this back and went to Lowes and got one much more durable with a weighted vent.

I needed a quality wall vent to install with our new bath fan. This seems to be pretty well constructed and like the fact it has a bug screen and foam padding to keep the flapper from making a lot of noise when the wind blows. Install was easy, had a tough time installing a 4" insulated hose of the pipe, but after making a small cut in the pipe with tin snipes I was able to slide the hose over it. There wasn't any holes drilled in mine, I drilled three across the top and three down each side, I know over kill but don't want any leaks.

Got tired of replacing the cheap vinyl louvered vents and started searching for something more durable. Theses aluminum vents should last indefinitely but I wasn't crazy about the mill finish so I primed and then painted them white. Here's the really good new...these vents have a damper rather than louvers. The damper opens more easily and the bathroom fan now moves WAY more air than it ever did. What an improvement. The second vent was for the dryer which had no problem opening the old louvers, but I'm guessing it works better for moving the lint.
