How do i connect 4” PVC DWV line to this outlet in a bathroom vent fan application?

Asked by Smithphi February 8, 2021

Answer

4" PVC will not connect directly to this wall cap. This cap is designed to accept 4" flexible duct or 4" metal ductwork from a typical appliance or fan exhaust application. If you have any other inquiries about our Master Flow products please call Technical Services at 800-211-9612.

can I use this too vent a propane dryer?

This will work fine as a dryer vent, either gas or electric. The one thing you MUST do however, is to remove the screen, which would quickly become clogged with lint and cause dangerous overheating and a backup of carbon monoxide into the home. The vent screen can easily be removed by carefully cutting it away from the inside, with a sharp razor knife prior to installing the vent.

Don't think so. What ever you use should exhaust at roof level. This is designed for use with clothes dryers.

It is not speed that opens the vent, but pressure. Computer axial fans are not great at producing pressure. The damper would allow some air by, but probably very little. The installation you are talking about does not appear to be a code requirement. If this is not a code requirement and it does not require a back draft damper, you could remove the damper or lock it open. This one has insect screen, or at least mine does, so when it shuts off nothing can crawl in.

I needed a quality wall vent to install with our new bath fan. This seems to be pretty well constructed and like the fact it has a bug screen and foam padding to keep the flapper from making a lot of noise when the wind blows. Install was easy, had a tough time installing a 4" insulated hose of the pipe, but after making a small cut in the pipe with tin snipes I was able to slide the hose over it. There wasn't any holes drilled in mine, I drilled three across the top and three down each side, I know over kill but don't want any leaks.

Got tired of replacing the cheap vinyl louvered vents and started searching for something more durable. Theses aluminum vents should last indefinitely but I wasn't crazy about the mill finish so I primed and then painted them white. Here's the really good new...these vents have a damper rather than louvers. The damper opens more easily and the bathroom fan now moves WAY more air than it ever did. What an improvement. The second vent was for the dryer which had no problem opening the old louvers, but I'm guessing it works better for moving the lint.

These things are so cheaply made, and flimsy. Super thin metal and super light. Not worth the money nor are they heavy duty.
