Q:Can you use these for a corrugated metal fence?
by|Oct 9, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Javagiril! Many people have used the PostMaster for several different applications outside of your standard wood fence. While Master Halco does not have installation instructions or recommendations specific to other applications, it can still be done. I recommend following our installation instructions as closely as possible, but gearing them toward the corrugated metal fence you have in mind. Installation information can be downloaded here: https://postmasterfence.com/installation/ Or here: https://www.masterhalco.com/postmaster-plus/installation Please note that the warranty may not be upheld when the PostMaster is used outside of its intended application. Thank you!

A:  If cutting after cementing posts into the ground , use a sawzall with metal blade.  Have some one help to hold steady. And wear eye protection.

A:  A metal bandsaw would be the best but you could also Iliad a metal blade on a saws all or something similar. I hope this helps!

These worked great. I’m never going to use another wood post as long as I can get these. I’ve installed many fences over the years sing 4x4 PT wood and inevitably, the posts twist, bend, crack and break. With these, my fence will always be straight and I won’t have to worry about rotten posts. The installation instructions were clear and the installation was as expected (about the same as a wood post). The other advantages to these is less hardware with the rails. One of the drawbacks I did notice is that the fence boards on the face don’t quite line up because of the thickness of the steel flange of the post. The only other drawback is the price which is about 3x the cost of a 4x4x8 post (but in my opinion the other advantages make up for the extra cost). This is minor and unless you’re looking very closely, you won’t notice. I would definitely use these for my next fence project.

I love these fence posts; I would never use anything else.
You use these metal posts to build a wooden fence. What I particularly like about them is, the fence posts will out live me. This means that, 15, 20, 30 years from now, when the fence needs to be replaced, you simply unscrew everything and leave the fence posts standing, to be used again. You put the posts in one time and never again! Make sure that you use a level to check your posts. I put a 2x6 rotboard on the bottom, keeping it from touching the dirt; and at the top of that rotboard, I screw in a 1x2 so that I can stand the fence slats on top of the 1x2. This keeps them even for a long run. I have found you need to use your level every 2 or 3 slats to make certain that you are keeping them at the proper angle. Check their website to see just how the posts should be positioned. Corner posts and not placed into the ground the same way as you would place the other line of posts.

Replaced 7 warped, twisted, or rotted 4x4 posts with these Postmasters. I like that each post has index marks every 7 or8 inches and punched holes on 1inch centers. This makes setting runners easy. My favorite feature is that the fence can be made as little as 2 inches thick instead of the usual 4x4 + 2x4 runners + pickets which works out to about 5 1/2 inches of total setback. With just the postmasters both sides are good-neighbor too. If the exposed post is unattractive it can easily be concealed with a 1x4 or 1x6. I think the finish on them is nice enough to leave exposed. Cost wise they seem expensive but compared to galv pipe posts with hangers/hardware they are about equivalent. They also require more alignment and leveling since the ultimate goal is to get the alignment mark's at the same height. Adjustable clamps on galv posts is quicker but postmaster is cleaner. On a sloped run any posts that stick up too high can easily be cut with a sawzall. Regardless, they are really nice and actually produce a better aesthetic than galv pipe. Tip: you can make a gate post with just 1 postmaster instead of the recommended duals by screwing a 2x4 to the backside; it's plenty strong for smaller gates. For larger or heavier gates the duals are more stable.

The Postmaster product is a wonderful post, they are rated for hurricane winds. Plus it is a great post to replace the 4" x 4" pressure treated post. The Postmaster, will never rot or break and the holes are an inch apart, witch allows us to not need a clip or bracket to hold the rails of the fence. However, the down side of the post master is the weight and if it needed to be cut, a metal cutting band saw. I have used this product for about ten years, I love it and sometimes its a pain in the rear.

Project: 100% of labor was done by myself, and my wife. +-560ft of Cedar Privacy Fence Installed +-70 post used +1000 pickets used Pros -Took up much less space compared to 4x4s when transporting. -Every single post was true. -Having the holes in post to screw into my supports made assembly a breeze. -Poured concrete so water would slope away from post to hopefully increased longevity. -8 Months since install and survived Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX (more of a rain storm, but it was a hurricane) -Heavy gauge to last a long time. -Easy way to keep more consistency cosmetically and with strength. 4x4s could have cracks. Cons -Pricey compared to wood 4x4's, but I feel I will not have to touch the post for over a decade. I'll save in regards to labor and material cost in the long run. -Look on the "ugly" side will take some getting used to, but i can always spend another $2.80 per cedar picket to cover up the metal. I have the pretty side, so not worried about it anymore. If I had to do it all over again, I would use these post again. No doubt about it.
