Thank you for your question. Yes, this model does require oil to fry the turkey. If you're looking for an oil-less option, please check out our Turkey Roaster! Thank you for choosing Masterbuilt!
Thank you for your question! This fryer is rated at 30 quarts for a max 18 lb turkey, however, you never want to fill the pot more than 80% full to avoid safety and fire hazards. The most definitive way to see how much oil to put in is to first use water. Placing the turkey into the pot, cover with water, then remove turkey to see how much oil to put in the pot. Be sure there is at least 3 inches between the top of the liquid and the top of the pot when turkey is submerged! Also, please follow all the safety guidelines in your manual to make sure you avoid overfilling the unit as this can be dangerous. Thank you for choosing Masterbuilt and if you have any further questions, please give us a call! 800-489-1581
