Q:Old wooden window frames need stripping, but I cannot power wash them. How else can I remove this product?

      Answer This Question

A:  Not sure what you are trying to do that would involve a power washer, but I removed the stripper (and the paint/varnish) with a plastic scraper down to the wood, then coarse steel wool to remove from wood grain.

A:  Please note for paint that was applied before 1978 we recommend testing for lead paint first with a lead test kit. If positive we recommend hiring a lead paint abatement professional for safe removal. For best results with removing paint from wood follow product directions carefully. Direction Summary: Apply, cover with plastic, use a blade scraper to scrape away softened paint when its ready then scrub clean with warm water. Use a heavy duty scrub pad or stainless steal scouring ball to scrub then wipe clean with water.

            Total waste on money
Do yourself a favor and try something other than this. Followed instructions. Brushed on, wrapped in plastic, and came back 30 minutes later. Did this twice before I gave up.

Set times will vary, Max Strip will not damage the substrate being stripped so leave the treated surface
(as per instructions) for as long as needed for coating to soften for removal. Also please note Max Strip products are temperature sensitive and work best above 50°F. EZStrip

MAX STRIP 1 GAL. PAINT AND VARNISH STRIPPER Lets go with the positives first. This product doesn’t have a strong odor and it doesn’t burn your skin, if you accidentally get some on you. If you follow the directions TO THE LETTER this stuff works. If you’re like me and just want to get the job done then, not so much. I’m from the days when paint stripper actually stripped paint, it might burn off some skin too if you splattered it on you, but it didn’t take hours and hours for it to work. All of that to say this. This product works okay despite the regulations that have been imposed on items like these.

              Wow, Great Paint Remover
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Let me tell you, this paint remover is awesome. I used it to remove paint run over on my wooden ledge in my kitchen that is already pre-stained. I didn't even leave it on as long as recommend on the bottle, and like magic it took the paint off and the stain was fine! I love this stuff.

The project was to repair a 75 year old stacking mahogany table, which one of the children used for desk top storage. Leaving a white ring and allowing damage to the finish. Trying to be more environmentally sensitive, a non petroleum based product led me to Max Paint and Varnish Strip. It is water soluble, easy on the application, put a bit in a jar, take a brush apply with a brush in even coat all in one direction.and wait an hour. I used a plastic scraper and most of the original finish was off. The worst damaged areas were clean. A certain area required a second application and for the most part all old varnish was gone. Damage will still require sanding but the Max product did its job. Finish is simply to take a moist cloth and rub the surface, stopping the stripper from continuing to work. As there is not the odor from petrol based solvents the area required normal fan ventilation . Highly recommend this product as a good alternative to old removers.

I like the gel formula of Max Strip paint and varnish remover. It was very easy to apply it with a paint brush. I followed the directions by putting on the first coat, covering with plastic and 10 minutes later, I applied a 2nd coat and recovered with plastic. After waiting a half an hour, I started scraping the paint. You do have to be certain that all areas having stripper are covered completely with plastic so the stripper does not dry out. The paint in the areas that remained wet with stripper were very easy to remove. This stripper is a bit time consuming, but it does work nicely. The water clean up is a definite plus! I do recommend this product, but it is time consuming.

I used this stripper to take off black paint from a 60+ year old small, side table. In one of my photos, I show the items I gathered ahead of beginning the stripping process. I also used a bucket of water and paper towels. I followed the directions on the stripper container. I did this project outside on our gravel driveway. I thickly brushed on the stripper, waited 10 minutes, scraped it off, applied a second coat, waited 10 minutes, scraped that off and then used a final stripper pad all over the table. Lastly, I wiped the entire table with paper towels. I cleaned all tools with water. I’m very happy with the performance of this stripper.

This product is truly amazing. I wanted to sand a cupboard in. Y bathroom but did not want all the dust since I’m pregnant so I used this product. I must say it did the job well even though the cupboard has been getting moist for the past 15 years by being in the bathroom. It took the old stain off very easily and made it so much easier for me. The product is easy to use and doesn’t not require to much labor as if you had to sand it.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well MAX STRIP 1 GAL. PAINT AND VARNISH stripper worked. A lot of products claim to be the best or work quickly. But this stuff is amazing. I wanted to strip the ac vent and heat Lamp ring in my bathroom and this product made my work supper easy. All I did was heavily cover the vent & lamp ring and place in a small kitchen garbage bag for a couple hours and the 40yr old paint easily brushed off. After all the paint was gone I used a wire brush attachment on my drill to make swirls and then covered them with 4 coats of clear lacquer. They look amazing. I recommend this product to everyone. Very easy to use, but definitely follow the directions. They are easy to read and follow. 5 stars for sure, this will be my go to paint and varnish stripper from now on.

I was pretty disappointed in this paint stripper. I decided to test it out on a piece of plywood that I had painted and then covered with a polyurethane. I. had hoped to be able to reuse this piece of plywood by stripping the finish off of it, but I wasn't successful. I put a fairly liberal coat of it on one corner of the plywood and covered it with freezer paper, which has a plastic coating. I checked it after an hour and I wasn't seeing much results at all, so I applied more and replaced the freezer paper. Another hour or two later and I was barely able to scrape much more off. I gave it an even greater coat and replaced the freezer paper and decided to let it sit overnight. Just did not seem to work at all on this piece. This might be a better review for the Minwax polyurethane that I applied over the paint. I will say it is low odor, though, which is an improvement over some other paint strippers I've used.

Please note we recommend covering treated surface with plastic only. Other products used to cover treated surface for required set time will not provide the best performance. EZStrip

I used Max Strip to strip two coats of paint from an old utility cart. Max Strip is easy to apply and did not have a strong smell, but I did work outdoors. Since the product is a gel, it seemed to stay in place on a flat surface, but it does run off of vertical surfaces. The first application did a good job of removing the top layer of paint, but did not seem to have an impact on the bottom (original) layer. The second application removed the bottom layer of paint with ease. I was impressed with Max Strip because after the gel had removed all of the paint in one area I simply moved it to another area and it continued to work. I was impressed with how well Max Strip removed the original paint and how clean the metal was after washing it with water. I would recommend Max Strip to anyone who needs a good paint and varnish stripper.
