Product Details

Our Maxx Air 1,300 CFM Gable Attic Fan is built to ventilate residential attic spaces up to 1,850 sq. ft. and is a great fit for situations in which roof-mounting is impractical. Constructed using a durable galvanized steel shroud and blades to resist heat distortion, and paired with a mounting system engineered to minimize vibration and ensure quiet operation. Install is straightforward with our easy to use mounting brackets and requires no special tools to complete. Our gable vent includes a pre-wired thermostat to run the exhaust fan only when you need it, minimizing it's operational cost. This electric fan is designed to prolong the life of composition roof shingles by lowering summer attic temperatures and helps to protect attic insulation against mold and mildew in the winter by removing moisture-filled air. Install behind existing louvers or purchase our shutter model (CX2121AM), and swap your pre-wired thermostat for a thermostat/humidistat combo (XXDUOSTAT) for greater control.

Q:Can I install this attic fan without the louver gable vent? I already have a vinyl gable vent on both ends. The instructions said "wire the unit to incoming power supply....". Does it mean this is not a power cord that plugs into the wall outlets?

    Answer This Question

A:  The unit is designed to be hard wired. I suppose you could add an extension cord to plug it into the wall, but I would recommend hard wiring it with an on/off switch. My fan was a replacement that I mounted over a louvered vinyl gable vent.

    by|Sep 3, 2022

A:  The vinyl gable vent will stay open all the time where as the louver gable vent is designed to close by gravity when the fan shuts off. This fan is also hardwired and not intended to be plugged in. The feed wire would go into the box with the thermostat switch (the box at the end of the whip you see in the picture. However, if you choose to install a cord with an AC plug on the end of it, it could be made to ' plug in'.

      by|Sep 2, 2022

A:  We recommend using our louvers because they work to let no access debris and protect from the elements. No, this unit does not plug into a wall outlet, it is wired directly.

        by|Aug 30, 2022

A:  This does not have a basic two prong power cord. It has wires that can be connected using twist wire connector. If you use zip cord and run it to a wall socket, especially down through the wall,  it probably is not acceptable. An electrician should wire it up properly with the correct wires to electrical box.

A:  It has an automatic thermostat you set. When it hits that temp it turns on. When it's cooler it turns off.

            by|Mar 29, 2023

A:  YES..you set it for what temp.

              by|Aug 14, 2022

A:  Yes it does. It is thermally activated and you can adjust the on/off setpoint.

                      Answer This Question

A:  It is pretty flimsy and rattles and vibrates. We can hear it above my office ceiling. The thermocouple seems to work fine. Shuts off when the temp drops to setting comes on when the temp gets up in the morning. Pay higher and get a more solid unit.

Unit arrived in a timely manner. The old (existing) 'tunnel' assembly was mounted in a fashion that made the housing difficult to remove, so I installed the motor & fan unit into the existing one. The fan blade was sitting too close, so I used an Allen wrench to easily move the blade outward about 1/2". After hard-wiring the new fan, I found that the thermostat was very easy to adjust. This new unit is much quieter than the old fan, and works as advertised. It is set to come on at 90 F, and while it's running it easily keeps the attic from getting too hot- and trust me, in July in N.C.- that attic was getting scary hot (I'd guess it was at least 150 F when the old fan quit!). I can go up into the attic to retrieve items on a hot sunny day now, without fearing "heat-exhaustion"!

The purpose for this purchase was to replace an existing ventamatic that was failing. The supports were the same spacing and the rating was higher cfm than previous fan. The new fan seems to be more lightweight in support arms. Thus it is louder and more “jumpy.” There are four blades instead of five on previous fan. My recommendation is to go up to a larger fan so the supports may be more substantial strength. It is working, just noisy.

This fan is quite. It has a low drone and rushing air sound. Blades are fairly well balanced, but there is room for improvement. The flex cable for the power and thermostat should be a little longer to facilitate room for ease of running power to it. As it is now it binds when trying to mount it in tight spaces. Overall this fan suits the house well and really has a positive affect on the attic temp and moisture level.

I have provided a photo. I installed the mounting brackets ONE of the fan blades hit the bolt heads when turned. It seems that all the blades are for some inexplicable reason different. They look like they were all hand made. To get things to work I had to change the bolt to a carriage bolt (lower profile) and actually grind down ONE of the fan blades. I made several attempts to contact the manufacture and was thwarted at each attempt. Chat, online support, phone all failed. No one available to take your call.

Works as advertised. Easy to install. I cut a circle out of a piece of 5/8" plywood, installed the fan on the plywood using rubber washers (vibration dampening), & installed the fan-&-plywood on the 2x4s around my attic gable vent. Put the thermostat-junction box at the edge of the plywood so the back of the thermostat box hangs free so air can surround it. I can hear the fan when it is on, but barely and only on the 2nd floor. Don't hear it at all in the 1st floor living room. I set it to come on at 110 degrees F. I can't say whether it makes a difference in temperature inside the dwelling because we haven't experienced really hot weather yet (San Diego).

                          Very powerful fan!
At 1650rpms, this fan is very loud, but it does what it is meant to do. I have two of them: one is mounted vertically in my garage's ceiling to pull the hot air out of the garage & blowing into my vented attic. The airflow is so strong that this one fan reduces my attic temp (1950 sqft) dramatically so that I can do just about anything in the attic without passing out from the heat - this was not the intended purpose of this fan but boy, do I ever enjoy this side affect! The second fan was supposed to have gone on the other end of my garage's ceiling so that I'd have 2 fans pulling the hot air out of the garage into the attic...but I had a DiY epiphany: I installed the second fan into my garage's wall butted with the laundry room! Why, you ask? Well, I have the one fan pulling hot air out but nothing cool is coming in, so the second fan pulls from the laundry room, blowing into the garage! I have a PAC that was vented into the attic, but it was more problematic than it was worth. I do not want my garage A/C'd, I am only in it (for the most part) to smoke since I do not smoke inside of my house (yeah, I can hear the "You should just stop smoking..." comments!), so unless I'm doing something long term with my vehicles, I am only in the garage at tops for 10 minutes to smoke...I'll use the PAC out on the lanai when guests are over! This was a decent investment...now to do some finishing on them both: borders on both, a screen or functional louvers on the wall. Oh, FYI: do not attempt to put a solid state speed control, e.g. dimmer switch, etc. on this fan (that happens to be #1 of the Do Not Do list in the instructions). I wanted one (had one) on the wall fan to control its speed while I'm in the garage, but...
