Questions & Answers

I'm building a subwoofer box. will Home Depot Cut out the exact measurements of each panel for the box for me?

I do not have the right tools at home and was wondering by request to cut each panel specific to my needs
Asked by: CoreyF
I doubt it. They will cut a panel down to size but if you need multiple pieces at an exact size you will probably have to do it yourself. Buy a circular saw, a framers square, dry wall screws and some liquid nails, and it should be a quick easy project.

Medium Density Fiberboard (Common: 3/4 in.x 2 ft. x 4 ft.; Actual: 0.734 in. x 23.75 in. x 47.75 in.) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 12.

However, I had to search through the supply because many were marred and had damaged edges due to banging or water. For this reason, I would not recommend purchasing it online without the ability to select it yourself.

I knew that this piece would not be perfectly square but each end was over an inch out of square, that is a little much. By the time it was squared up I had to add another filler strip to make up for what had to be trimmed off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MDF is great for cabinet doors and other projects that will be painted, pre cut panels save time MDF is a great material for projects that will be painted. It cuts clean with no splinters and works well on the router table. These pre cut panels are about 50% more expensive per ft^2 than a full sheet. However, a 4 x 8 sheet of MDF is very heavy and difficult to manage on the table saw. I have also found the scrap wood has little value since it's not structurally sound, it's hard to use for anything but cabinet doors. For example you can't make shelves for the garage. Therefore, I just buy the amount I need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent material I've used this to construct a couple of work-benches (used plans from the Kreg website). It is exact in its dimensions, absolutely flat, and easy to saw (but you should wear a face mask if you don't have a dust-collection system). If it doesn't get wet, it is very stable, and quite strong (for extra strength, I use two sheets, glued together, for the bench top). If I were worried it could get wet, I'd apply a primer and paint it.
