A:  Hi, Lark. Thanks for sharing your question about the Midea 50-Pint Cube Dehumidifier. Heat is a normal byproduct of the dehumidification process. Have a good day. Midea Customer Care. (BBB A+ Accredited Business)

A:  I can’t explain the mechanics of how the Midea Cube works, but it does not operate like other dehumidifiers which I have owned.  The Midea unit emits cool to warm air and does not generate as much water as my prior dehumidifier.  I operate two Midea units in a 1,250 SF basement at our home in the Blue Ridge Mountains and extended the drip lines outside.  These units are extremely energy efficient.  As an aside I also installed a mini-split, which also reduces moisture.  These two changes drastically improved air quality and comfort.

              Buyer Beware
The unit worked well - until it didn't. I ran this unit for just over a year until it began freezing up. I reached out to their customer service and they were unwilling to take responsibility for nor troubleshoot the issue as the dehumidifier exceeded the 12-month warranty period by about a month. Talk about planned obsolescence. It was run in a properly conditioned interior space. I kept the unit clean and followed the manufacturer's instructions. Buyer beware.

Truly shocked (in a good way!!)
I bought this unit last night with a little hesitancy as I wasn't sure if it could handle the job that I was going to ask it to do (basically sucking up a lake through a straw). I picked the unit up at approximately 9pm, took it home, unpacked it, put it in place in my 4 season sunroof that was quickly turning into a 3 season sunroof due to the amount of condensation build up (dripping down onto the floor to the point of saturation). (For all those other pro's - yes I have it properly ventilated, and yes I have a proper head source, and yes I have been running the fans etc in the other areas of the home to reduce the moisture in our homes air - I've followed all of the recommendations of the folks who were gracious enough to share their insights). I had low expectations and anticipated that I'd wake up disappointed and my last attempt to keep the four seasons room available for us to enjoy in the winter would finally have its candle light snuffed out by the condensation droplets raining down. To my surprise, less than 12 hours later I woke up like a kid staring at what was under the Christmas tree in disbelief. Just like Santa has come through, so did the Midea 50 Pint Dehumidifier with Continuous Operation Function-MOST EFFICIENT ENERGY STAR® WITH PUMP Model # MAD50PS1QGRC|Store SKU # 1001592205. Pictures speak a 1000 words. The first is an idea of the amount of condensation I was dealing with on all of my windows, this one was a ceiling panel. The second is the clearness and lack thereof condensation on the side window. Let's see how it fairs in the coming (colder) months. I tip my hat to you folks at Midea, well done.

                  Solid dehumidifier.
Excellent dehumidifier - pulls a lot of moisture out of the air. I've owned several dehumidifiers and this one really performs. The reason: it has a much larger fin surface area - it is on both sides (there are two pull out filters - one for each side). It does heat up the area, but that's how dehumidifiers work. It is a bit noisy, but that's because it is moving a lot of air. I have mine up against the wall in a large utility room next to my finished basement with a HVAC return air grill allowing the room air to get to the dehumidifier; the exhaust air is directed back to the room ceiling using HVAC ductwork - this keeps the noise WAY DOWN. I use a continuous drain using a garden hose to an existing condensate pump. I used it initially with the bucket fill mode successfully using the 2nd fill level but wouldn't want to have to empty the large weight of water if using 3rd or 4th level. When placing the unit back on the bucket - be gentle and make sure the spring-loaded switch for sensing proper installation on bucket is in proper position. The phone app seems to work fine except that the bucket fill level is not accurate - it freezes on 76% full even with no water in bucket (doesn't matter to me since I'm draining through a garden hose). It's nice to monitor room humidity; and have ability to turn on/off remotely. The one unknown is how long the unit will last - been working great for 2 months but that's not a long time.

Pump works great - Read Manual!
I've been through a lot of dehumidifiers. the biggest issue always is longevity after a year or so. I've only had this one for 2 months but so far so good. the fan is whisper quiet and the build is unlike any other I've had. I've seen a few complaints about the pump, and after reading through them I'm willing to wafer they missed the inlet hose. they all reference the outlet, but nome reference the inlet. The pump system uses 2 hoses, which are included. A thin outlet hose that is about 15 feet long and an inlet hose that plugs in the other side of the machine and drops down to the tank. It had a proprietary commectopm on one end and a filter on the other. It sucks up water from the tank and this is the only unit I've had that has one. Took me 3 tries to figure it out over 2 days. There are no errors if you forget about it. Once connected you never have to worry about it again.

I like to call this thing ICE-CUBE
Bought this 24 hours ago....We will see how long it holds up....that's for another review. I purchased this for $279(inflation) plugged it in...it took the basement from 83% to 51% in 2.5 hours. It is quiet. Like a basic room fan. Hasn't leaked(YAY). Hasn't gotten hot(YAY). I stored all the attachments inside the bucket for later use. Put it on a dolly to ease the moving since I am using direct drain mode. So far so good....If you want a good video of setup - https://youtu.be/e1U80lGOdWI

                      Powerful dehumidifier
Very powerful dehumidifier! I wish I would have timed it, but once I opened the box and set it up, turned it on; my basement humidity dropped from 69 to 55 in no time. My other dehumidifier struggled to get below 60. I like the convenience of the app in monitoring the humidity levels and the fill level of the bucket. When full, the bucket is too heavy to carry to dump so it is very beneficial to be able to adjust the fill level. It has an option for a hose attachment and pump however I don’t have the ability to drain it anywhere in my basement at this time. I also like the design but having casters would be great to facilitate moving it around.

                      Does the Job!
I replace an old dehumidifier with this one and you can actually tell that it is working. It kept my basement nice and dry this summer, even during the rains. My basement gets wet during the rain. This was very easy to set up even for someone who is not technically savvy. I did hook it up to my phone for convenience. I have it with the hose coming out of it as I prefer not to have to empty it. That seems to be working well. I bought my own house though. I needed it to be longer than what was supplied. I have it up on cement blocks only because of the leaking walls I have. I am very happy with this dehumidifier. Only "problem" I had is it said to clean the filters and the filters were fine. I will keep an eye on that.

                      Filters HARD to get out
After struggling to get the filters out for a long time and reading the manual I finally had to pry them out with my knife almost breaking the plastic holder. Before you contact CS and report the filters, slide a sharp object in the slot and pry them out

2nd unit, Pump feature still doesn't work. Customer service is useless
This should be a 5 star review - it pulls moisture from the air very well, and the WiFi app connects -but it otherwise fails, along with their useless customer service. I really want to love this unit... It claims to have the 2 things I need most - a pump feature to empty itself and WiFi control. Being out of state from time to time, and long work hours, I need it to be self-sufficient and remotely controllable, and it *almost* does that. Here's how it went... I get the new unit home, set up, read the manual thoroughly, watch the only instructional video online they provide, turn On the pump feature and wait. Supposed to make a "loud noise", but never does. Ok let's see if it needs to fill up first. Wait until the 4gal bucket is full. Still no pumping. Turn the pump feature Off, then back On. Nothing. Re-watch instructional video, keep re-watching the part about the pump in case I missed something. Nope. Everything checks out. (Go to instructional manual for troubleshooting, but there's basically none. One part about Error codes, but you can't find what the codes mean anywhere. Not in the manual, not on their website. Completely useless.) . Try the Wifi app (which is clunky, but the app connects and "works") turn On the pump via App. Machine responds, but no pumping action. Off, On, Off, On. Bucket is totally full, no pumping action. Fed up, I box the unit, return to store, swap out for replacement. Get replacement unit setup- SAME EXACT THING. Ugh. I check the hose port connection again, grey hose fully seated, pushed in as far as possible while holding white connector inward. Bottoms out, seems solid, No dice. The hose isn't bent, I even tried the new hose into another bucket beside the unit. Full de-hum bucket, still no pumping. I call Customer Service, tell the guy what I went thru, all my steps and troubleshooting, his answer?? Return it to the store again and see if they'll let me try the pump feature in the store. He did absolutely no troubleshooting with me. I ask about the warranty, and he says Midea will Not fix it, Nor send me a replacement. So, basically there is No warranty. "What if the new unit also doesn't pump?!" His answer was to keep returning it to the store until I can't. I ask about an authorized Service Center to get the pump feature tested (maybe there's a bad part or mis-wiring from the factory that a whole batch could have, I'm a techy guy I've seen that kinda thing in new products), NO. There is No service center or technician that could verify it's working properly. Just keep swapping out units, without any way to verify I'm doing everything right. -To which I'll say- I found a YouTube video review on this particular model, a person commented about the pump feature 'not working' for them too, and the video author replied that the bucket needs to be full for the pump to kick on... My bucket was full to the point my machine refused to turn On until it was emptied. Great feature, a fail-safe so it doesn't flood your residence... Only problem is the pump should be pushing the water out, as designed and marketed. But it doesn't work. The biggest reason I spent nearly $300 on this unit is the reason it's not worth it. And IF the pump feature DID work... Why can't I determine when the pump turns On??? Why should I need to wait for 4gal of stagnant water to accumulate?? I changed the alarm levels and that doesn't control when the pump activates- Why in the world not?? Let me keep the level reasonably low... This doesn't make any sense. Customers want products to work as it makes sense for our lifestyle, that's why we pay stupid money for convenience. What now? Spent hours on this already. I just want this unit to work as it's advertised. I paid the money, I did the troubleshooting, it just doesn't work. I will never buy this brand again and I'll warn everyone to stay away. Thanks for the frustrating hassle, Midea.

Really good dehumidifier, that works as advertised
I read reviews online and here on Home Depot and bought it. Had to drive to another store to get one in stock. We got hit with heavy rains in the past few weeks and the basement was over 70% humidity. The first use brought it down to 50%. I'm amazed at the amount of water this machine pulls out of the air. I'm very happy so far with a week or so of use. I'm currently using the bucket mode, but I'm going to use the continuous pump mode after I get some time. It has app function but I'm not using it. I have a humidity and temperature logger and the media is fairly accurate at tracking the humidity. It works well.
