Will this work in 2016 Airstream Interstate Touring Coach with 30 amp ?

Asked by Moe September 20, 2020

Hi Moe: The first thing you must do is get the electrical wiring diagram for the 2016 Airstream. What does it require for amperage? Next is the voltage: is it 120V or 240V that supplies the Airstream and is the load 30 amps max? If the load is 30A max then yes you can use it. Just make absolutely certain that you wire it correctly. You must know the total amps required for any trailer that you want to feed with a 30A outlet as described. To do otherwise would be very dangerous. Good luck.

Is this outlet for 10/3 romex?

The outlet is 30 amp 125 volt therefore, you'll only need 10-2 with ground.

Will a Milbank hub mount to the top as the GE hub does?

If you have the dimensions of the screw holes on the top of the outlet box, match it up with a Milbank or GE hub. The best time to buy the hub is when you buy the outlet box. Good luck on your project.

Does anyone know for sure, that a GE raintight hub adaptor plate works on this box?

Since you are mixing a Midwest electric outlet box with a GE product, I would ask the HD electrical people as they would know the answer (and what raintight hub they suggest).

THE "HOT" TERMINAL IS THE ONE THAT HAS THE SCREW TURNED OUT, IN YOUR PICTURE. The other side is the neutral.

WICH POLE IS POSITIVE?

Looking at the picture of the outlet in this case only the positive side is on the left. Typically the hot or positive is on the right side with the ground facing down. On this picture the ground terminal is at the top. You should ALWAYS check to make sure this is correct by looking at the upstream wiring to the coach. People sometimes do cross wires.

Is a GFCI style breaker necessary for an outdoor installation in a wet area similiar to a standard 110VAC outlet ??

I checked with the City office and they checked it and they said that it was not needed, however other cities or counties may very well have different rules. Check with your City or County Compliance officer, or just call a licensed electrician in your town, they have to know the codes for wherever they work.

On mine, the cap and four screws were sealed in a bag behind the front cover. Look down the hole and you should see it. The cap is plastic and there is no gasket. The assembly is UL listed according to the carton.

The wiring diagram attached to the back of the box under the receptacle, clearly indicates how it is to be wired.

I installed this outlet so that I could power my Airstream travel trailer when it's parked in my driveway. Works great! Note: if you have a power cord with a handle (see photo), the door won't close all the way (see photo). But since the door covers the top, it still provides moderate protection from sun/rain.

I decided to run a 30 amp circuit to temporarily power my Casita RV when it was parked in the driveway and had no idea that there was an outlet that was specifically designed for this purpose. I was glad to see that Home Depot not only sold them but had them in stock at the Local store. I went down there and bought the outlet along with a 30 amp breaker, conduit and wire to install it. Once I got it installed I checked the polarity and then plugged in my RV. It works great and is designed to be weather resistant so rain or shine its good to go.

The poles are attached with a single screw and piece of cardboard and the terminals are screws rather than lugs which make it very difficult to attach 10 gauge wire.

Case is fine, receptacle is cheap
10awg wire was difficult to install. The recptacle itself is cheap and part of the plastic on the back snapped under tension from the wires when pushed in. Polarity is not marked, screws to hold the wire are junk. It is working, but I wouldnt purchase again.
