Sorry no, this drill bit is specifically designed for drilling cast iron and stainless steel and is not suitable for porcelain tiles. Please search "drill bits for tile" on the Home Depot website for carbide drill bits that are suitable for drilling tiles.

how long is the bit? if actual size on screen, then it looks like about 6". Is that correct?

Per Milwaukee, the bit length is 2.75" and the flute length is 1.625", so 4.375" or 4 3/8". Standard size for that size of a bit.

Answer

Hi there! Our 1/4 in. Cobalt Red Helix Twist Drill Bit (48-89-2313) is intended for stainless steel, cast iron, metal or wood drilling applications. We do suggest drilling in a low speed for stainless steel applications.

Is the cobalt alloy, M35 3% or M42 8%?

Asked by woodywoodpecker August 9, 2020

Answer

Pretty sure it's just an electroplate cobalt coating over HSS. No idea what alloy. What I can tell you for sure is that if you center punch your starting point, are generous with the cutting oil, drill at slow speed and pause if the oil starts to smoke, they will drill through commercial grade stainless steel counter tops many times. If you keep these cool and baptize them with lots of cutting oil, they will far outlast plain HSS, "black oxide" or "titanium nitride" bits. If you let them overheat and neglect the cutting oil, they'll die before you are a 1/4" through mild steel.

is this drill bit for wood? how long is the twist part?

Asked by ice May 6, 2020

Answer

Hello Ice, this bit is ideal for accurate holes in Hard Metal, PVC and wood. The twisted part on the bit depends on the size of the bit. In this case, the bit length is 5 inches.

NO. It is a 'standard' type bit for wood, metal, etc. You will ned a specialized 'Masonry bit' for brick.

I would like to take back my negative review for 7/64 Milwaukee Cobalt bit . The hole I was trying to drill was at the angle and at a difficult location. The drill bit is excellent. I never seen a bit flex so much and not break. P.S. HD, fix the picture and a title for the review pop up. It does not match the link!

works good
I used this bit to drill through some small mending plates and it worked with no issues. I just started with smaller bits and worked my way up to this one. The tip of the bit is nice and bites into material good without slipping. The only dislike is that it is kind of expensive and I wish it could be included in the other cobalt milwaukee drill bit kit that I have. I have had this bit for about a week now and it does meet my expectations. Please hit thumbs up if this was helpful

I like that this bit is meant for hard metal. This is a very sharp bit and does a good job of cutting. The downside that I've noticed is that the cutting edge of the bit easily chips. It's disappointing, considering how much it costs, for the edge to chip and break. If it doesn't chip it does a great job of cutting.

I bought the bit because I needed to drill out a broken bolt on my exhaust system. I tried to start with a 1/8 inch then enlarge to 1/4, then 3/8 inch. The 1/8 nor the 1/4 would not even start to drill, a complete waste of money. I had even ground off the head so was only drilling the shank

Expensive, but a good bit. I drilled 10 holes through 3/8" steel plate before the first bit seemed to be getting dull. I bought the second bit and it broke on the 1st try, so the original bit was used to finish all 18 holes. The photo was after 18 holes were finished.

The holes these bits were producing in 1/8 mild steel were out of round almost triangle in shape and the edge finish in the holes was terrible. Being the most expensive 1/2 bit in the store I would expect much better performance. I was drilling on a drill press and it was a night and day difference between the Milwaukee and dewalt. I will never buy these bits again. In the image hole with dewalt bits on left. Brand new Milwaukee on right.
