Yes. It just depends upon your router table adapter plate has the proper screw hole locations that allow for the router bit chuck to be centered correctly within the adapter plate hole.

The router come with both 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch collets. Yes, any brand of router bit of 1/4 and 1/2 shank diameter will fit; however, the router bit’s cut diameter cannot exceed the opening of the router’s sub bases.

I’d check the slots in the case it could of fallen in. If it isn’t there go on line and get the customer service number and see about getting a manual sent to you or just go on line and register it and down load yourself a copy.

Does the micro-depth adjustment knob work on the plunge base or only the fixed base?

Asked by Josh February 21, 2013

Answers

Josh it does work on both. You can fine tune the depth in the fixed base which adjust the motor in the base. In the plunge base application it only adjusts the stop rod. What i have done for lets say making a sign. I'll do a quick pass on a letter check the depth and if need to be deeper I'll undo the stop rod lock knob with the adjustment knob I'll fine tune the cut. Or with the bit in the motor push the base down till the bit just kisses the work surface release the plunge lock lever, lock the stop rod in place use the 3" steel measure plate on the base to set the movable pointer and use the adjusting knob to set the depth desired. You can use the LDA, Linear Depth Adjustment in both bases.

What is the total height of the router in the fixed base with the router in the lowest position?

Approximately 9 1/2 inches

Excellent router! A little bit more expensive but well worth it for a tool that will last and perform. Runs smooth, soft start is great and the grip with the strap is spot on perfect for my needs.

Great motor. Great plunge base that is easy to set and holds its position. Great case, but seems like overkill. Also seems like a chunk of the price might be in the case.

I was looking at 2 other brands and chose this Milwaukee for a few reasons. 1. The body grip. I use a trim router often and just by habit grab the router this way. This Body grip is very comfortable and holding the router this way give me a feeling of control with the router and better stability while routing edges. 2. The LDA Linear Depth Adjustment allows me do fine tune my cut with ultra fine adjustment. 3. The plunge-base literally float. It glides up and down with very little effort. It's like a finely crafted piece of machinery. The accessories includes a dust collection attachment, centering tool, 1/4" and 1/2" collets, T handle socket wrench if you mount the router in a router table and 2 wrenches to remove the collets or router bits. I've had this over a month and it has performs flawlessly. The 2 1/4 horse motor take anything thrown at it with power to spare. This is a 5 start router all day.

I've had this router for 4 years and haven't used it that much. It has less than 10hours total run time and never with anything larger than a 3/4 inch bit. Recently tried to use a larger bit and the vibration was very bad. I checked the bearings and they are good. Then I decided to check the run-out. I used a steel drill rod straight and round to within .0005 inch. I set up a dial indicator 1 inch above the collet nut. I measured 9 thousandths runout. That is crazy bad. I rotated the collet to different positions before tightening the nut and the run out was still terrible. I measured the run-out inside the hollow taper of the armature (the place where the collet nut gets inserted in to the router) and I measured 3 thou runout. That is really bad. Mind you this router has only been lightly used and never anything close to abused. So, I contacted Milwaukee by email several times and got no response. I called Milwaukee and left a message. They called me back 6 hours later and patched me through to a service tech. He said they measure run-out at 1 inch above the collet and that up to 10 thou runout is acceptable. I swear my heart skipped a beat when he said 10 thou. That is crazy. You will never get anything close to precision with this router. Think about it for a second, how often are you ever using a bit that is only 1 inch tall above the collet. Even small round over bits are taller than that. Also consider that excessive runout, which this is, will result in early bearing failure, excessive vibration, poor cutter life, and just general poor performance. I have a video showing the run-out but i only see options for photos, so I'll see if I can take some screen shots of the video. FYI- I spoke to Bosch and they find 5 thou at 1 inch worthy of repair or replacement, so i am going to give the 1617 a test run.
