Product Details

Milwaukee's one piece carbide tipped core bits are ideal for drilling large holes in brick, block, and concrete. The asymmetric tooth pitch with alternating tooth geometries for up to 20% faster drilling speeds. The one piece design maximizes energy transfer and the thick wall core body is durable in large hammers. The fluted core exterior minimizes friction loss and removes debris faster. Core bit cut with the outer cutting edge only. The inside core must be removed to allow for deeper hole drilling applications beyond 3". Centering bit 48-20-5495 (included) is recommended for exact spot drilling and to avoid bit wandering during use. The drift key 48-20-5497 (not included) allows for easy removal of the centering bit. The one piece core bits are available in SDS-Max or Spline shanks, ranging from 1-1/2" to 6" diameters and overall lengths of 11-3/8" or 22", with a drilling depth of 3".

    A:  Set screw

A:  The pilot bit is simply pressure-fitted in. My pilot fell out on the first go with the bit falling in a place I couldn't recover so I'm very annoyed at the design.

A:  The arbor bit is tapered and just pressed into the middle of the core bit. There is not retaining pin on this. If you are coring hollow block I would start the hole then remove the arbor bit. A better option would be to buy the Bosch bit the HD sells. Bosch has a retaining pin to hold the arbor bit.

Q:Can I buy an additional pilot bit separately? How is the pilot bit secured into the core bit?

A:  Sometimes they are removable with an allen wrench. Sometimes you just turn it is threaded. Each time you use it it will tighten a little bit more so it may be difficult to remove.

            Don't waste your money.
Solid, well made and expensive. How it does the job is questionable. I suppose if you have to drill stucco or it must work. In my case it totally ruined my brick wall and dislodged bricks from the wall not being able to finish the hole. I used diamond core bits before with 100% success. Don't waste your money.

This core bit went thru concrete very easy. I encountered some rebar on the way drilling. I did not forced it thru the rebar but I noticed that i did some damage to the rebar and the drill bit did not suffer any damage. This core bit met and exceeded my expectations

Anyone that uses rotary hammers professionally knows that when it comes to bits, you want German-made, as this high-quality Milwaukee product is. As I do almost exclusively residential work, a rotary hammer is not a primary tool for me. When it comes to core bits, I prefer these one-piece units, for their ease of use. Unit comes fully assembled, ready to be put to work. The unit is 11-3/8" in length to the tips of the carbide cutters, and with a cutting depth of 3". Note - this bit is for use in SDS-Max units only (at least without an adapter). Rotary hammers can come with one of a variety of different chuck configurations, so be sure that SDS-Max-shanked bits are what yours utilizes. SDS-Plus shank looks extremely similar, but they are not interchangeable.
