Questions & Answers

Are these medals hammers

Answer This Question

Hi, Robert. The head is metal (steel), but the handle is fiberglass, making it lighter and more shock-resistant than a full-metal hammer.

Is this a good sledge hammer to break cast iron pipe? I use a 28oz hammer to break 4”cast iron pipe, but I seen guys use small sledge hammer to break pipe, so is this worth a purchase, or a waste of money?

    Answer This Question

The Milwaukee 3 lb. Fiberglass Drilling Hammer is a much better choice for breaking 4" cast iron pipe than a 28oz hammer. The heavier head delivers significantly more impact force, making it more effective for demolition tasks like breaking cast iron.

In 1965, the company moved from its State Street location, in the City of Milwaukee, to its modern 212,000-square-foot manufacturing and office facility in Brookfield, Wis. Milwaukee Tool has manufactured products in the USA since 1924.

There is no effort to hide the China or Taiwan connections. On the rear of the product tag, just to right of UPC code is this statement "Engineered by Milwaukee Tool Made in Taiwan with further Processing in China"

Country of origin is Taiwan/ROC. I don't understand why both Home Depot and Milwaukee are trying to hide it. Fake answers from shills. Honest retailers list it as a spec.

This drilling hammer was a life saver! I had to find something to help hammer in some rebar and this was the tool for the job! I was able to hammer in 6 rebars in no time. The grip was great, as I had a firm grip the entire time. The precision of the hammer was awesome, as I was able to get a good hit every time. Even with going at it, both heads looked good.

                                  Crocked handles mfg. defect
I just received my 3 & 2 lb drilling hammers. I was excited until I noticed the handles were glued on crocked to the drilling heads. The 3 is 1/8 off center but the 2 lb is 1/4 off center. These handles are egg shaped not round handles so when you hold the handle the heads are not striking the object straight on. This can be dangerous as to glancing blows that make you damage something else and or lose control of the hammer and drop it especially if your on a ladder.

Great little hammer for the price.
I think this is great. It’s light enough to to have some accuracy, and it is small enough to bang on suspension under cars. Haven’t had it too awful long, so no comments on durability, but so far so good. I like the one smooth, one rough side. All said and done good solid hammer, decent price.

I needed this for a pretty rough job. It holds up nice and balances well In the hands. It sure is pretty when you first get it but just know that clear coat on the face of this things is coming right off on the first swing. But what else do you expect with a hammer. Just buy it and get wham bammin.

I bought this hammer drill as a replacement for my sledge hammer. This Milwaukee hammer drill is very well balanced and made demolition of a kitchen a breeze. I wish I would have found this gem a few years earlier as this is a massive improvement over the basic old school 3lb sledge hammer.

The 3lb Milwaukee hammer is sturdy, light-weight, and feels comfortable to use with a strong fiberglass handle. I have a regular steel hammer, a rubber mallet, and an 8lb sledgehammer, so the 3lb hammer is for the in-between jobs. I used it with a chisel along with a rubber mallet. For some cuts, the chisel and this hammer worked better since I did not have to use too much power and risking to lose accuracy. I was able to get a precise entry cut with the weight of the 3lb hammer using only a little swing, compared to using a rubber mallet and having to using more power. Overall, the tool is good to have for small DIY tasks in the house or shop. You can also use it for driving nails and stakes and for small demolition tasks.

This drilling hammer is just solid and tough. That’s really the best and most accurate description I can give. So far I’ve been using this to drive some chisels to clear some excess materials, and it just works great. I’ve also used it to not-so-gently dismantle some wood shelves I had that were nailed and glued together. This hammer went right through them without any effort at all. Overall this is a quality item and should be added to your tool arsenal.

Another quality product from Milwaukee, backed by a limited lifetime warranty!!! The hammer is very easy to hold, with a rubber grip that prevents slippage, with a handle that is made out of fiberglass. The hammer has both a smooth face and milled face giving you options depending on what job you plan on using it for. This is the perfect hammer for light demolition work (smooth face), while I used the milled face to stake out an area in my backyard.

Before purchasing this drilling hammer, ask yourself about the applications you intend to use it for. Hand drilling hammers are intended to drive steel into rock, or to drive wedge and feathers into cracks or drilled holes. This is a single jack sledge with a 10” handle. The short handle helps you place blows accurately, and resists breaking better than longer handles. It has rounded striking faces, and beveled edges to minimize chipping. Single jacking is for holding a drilling steel in one hand, and hitting it with a hammer held in the other. With a 3 lbs. head, this is not a suitable replacement for a nail hammer. It is unnecessarily heavy for that. This hammer head doesn’t have the Nevada shaped head. It has a nice smooth face. The head has a gripping feature on one side, and a smooth versatile side on the other. As far as the handle, lanyard-compatible hole won’t really help me, but I like the rubber molding for grip. It is a peel resistant rubber, and fiberglass handle, so this will stand the test of time (vs. a wood handle kept in the wrong storage conditions). With a limited lifetime warranty, you can never go wrong with Milwaukee. But, is a drilling hammer right for what you are doing? It was for me.
