Will these cut 16 gauge hardware cloth?
They will, but if you’re making the cut numerous times I would get a bigger set. Less stress on the hand.

Can these be used for something else than electrical wire?
Yes. I've used them to cut zip ties and to shape plastic shims.
Yes. They can be used to cut many different things. The package didn't say anything about hardened wire and I haven't used these for that, so I can't say whether they would be able to do so without damaging the pliers.

Klein blue handle diagonal cutters cut hard metals without damage to cutting edge, while their red handle cutters are only adequate for copper.
I have used my Milwaukee cutter for brad nails without any problems.

The pliers are made FORGED STRENGTH .
Unfortunately, there is no indication on the packaging or on the Milwaukee website as to what these cutters will cut. I only intend to use them to cut copper and soft metal, so I expect these to meet my needs. If you need to cut harder wire, you may want to look at mini-bolt cutters or other brand cutters designed to cut piano wire and other harder metals.
