Q:Can this knife be used to cut let's say a rib eye steak
by|Aug 17, 2021
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hypothetically, yes. Though steak has a very poor R-value so I'd suggest sticking to insulation.

Q:Can the handle be cleaned with solvents like toluene and acetone, or will it melt??
    by|Jan 23, 2021
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  I have not tried that but since it is made of plastic it could melt or disfigure the finish.

Q:Installing eps insulation, 2" thick, is this a good option for cutting?
    by|Dec 8, 2019
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  It should work. I used it one 1” ceiling tiles and it cut really well. As long as you don’t have to cut curves, the 6” blade will cut the 2” insulation.

I actually bought both the knives Milwaukee has to offer. I skinned a wall hanger buck, with the short blade knife, and boned out 62 pounds of solid meat, and they both are still sharp as a razor. I love them so much, I'm going to buy more for Christmas gifts.

The Milwaukee Insulation Knife is a long, wicked-sharp blade that just works. It’s basically a fantastic fishing knife, and it’s plastic handle feels nice in the hand and I used it, as recommended, to smooth out tape and it worked fine—in fact, the foil duct tape I used looked fantastic, though I’m not used to people seeing how tape looks on a duct. I included a picture of it on a cardboard pouch I made for my wife since I didn’t have my phone with me in the attic. A few improvements could be made on this knife—the case stays on tightly, but it takes too much effort to put on and take off. If the case were made with a belt loop, top and bottom like a diving knife, this would be a good thing. As it is, however, the case gets set down while using the knife and I have to remember to grab the case before I move on.

Took a bit to get the hang of cutting insulation with this type knife, but works great once you get the hang of it. Holds an edge and keeps on cutting

Great insulation knife. Works great but you need to keep it sharpened. When using on faced insulation, the tar looking adhesive that attaches the facing to the insulation will stick to the blade in places and I use mineral spirits to keep it clean.

        Not good!
I am insulating a small shop. I bought this knife because I thought it would be easier to cut R30 insulation because of the length of the blade versus a utility knife. I also considered that it was a "Milwaukee" product and should be a premium tool. Boy, was I wrong. I made exactly TWO cuts with the knife through the insulation. On the second cut, I made it 3/4 of the way through the width of the insulation before it started "tearing" instead of cutting. Avoid this knife!
