How are the numbers on the stripping blade of the 48-22-3083 stripper supposed to be interpreted? The numbers along the top edge run from 10 to 20 and along the bottom edge from 8 to 18. But there is an 8 above the 10 and a 22 above the 20 on the top edge

      Answer This Question

8 to 18 is the wire guage in solid wire. 10 to 20 is the gauge in stranded wire.

Hey there! The numbers on the stripping blade of the Milwaukee 48-22-3083 Automatic Wire Stripper and Cutter are meant to indicate the wire gauge sizes that the tool can strip. Specifically, these numbers correspond to the American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes of the wires that the tool is designed to handle. Hope this helps out.

You have not answered the question. "Strips 8-20 Solid & 10-22 Stranded AWG wires." Assuming 8-20 means all the AWG sizes in betwee 8 and 20 including 8 and 20, we get 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. That's seven sizes. But there are only six cutters.

I suppose that would depend. Looking through the product images, does it perform tasks that you (personally) need to do daily on the job site? Only you can really answer this question accurately. Just think about it.

The difference between them are of course length. 2nd half inch wide jaws vs quarter inch.3rd is one has crimping ability the other doesn't. They both Reem pipe the same.

No You'll need to cut through the metal clad with a saw or rotary cutter. These strippers will then work on the wires inside the metal clad.

Are the bolt cutting holes threaded, at least on one side? I'd prefer it on the tool, otherwise I put on a nut (if I can) to correct any thread issues after cutting.

Yes. One side is threaded. The cut side has no threads. As you unthread it it will fix the thread.

                                      A Versatile Essential for Wiring
I recently used these 6-in-1 pliers for a weekend project that involved wiring a new ceiling fan and replacing several wall outlets. The Functionality of this tool is excellent for residential electrical work; having one tool that can strip, cut, and loop wire saved me from constantly digging through my tool belt. The Versatility really shines when moving between different wire gauges, as the stripping notches are sharp and accurately marked. In terms of Construction, the pliers feel very rugged. The handles have a solid grip that doesn't slip, which is important for Compatibility with various hand sizes and for maintaining control during repetitive cuts. The Dimensions of the tool are just right—it’s long enough to provide good leverage for cutting thicker Romex, but slim enough to reach into a cramped electrical box to straighten out wires. Overall, the build quality and Functionality make this an "Excellent" addition to any DIYer's kit. It made my fan and outlet project go much faster by combining several tools into one reliable package. Pros: • Versatility: Replaces multiple tools in your pocket. • Construction: Heavy-duty feel with comfortable, non-slip grips. • Dimensions: Slim nose design is perfect for crowded electrical boxes. Cons: • None noted for standard home electrical projects. Bottom Line: If you are doing any basic home wiring, these are a must-have. They provide pro-level Functionality at a great value.

                                        Bolt/screw cutters are trash
I’ve had the same pair for at least 3 years, and I’m a big fan of them. My only complaint is that the bolt cutters do not eject the cut off portion of the screw. Meaning you’ll have to use a drill bit to “push” that portion of the leftover screw out. Id use a different tool if you cut a bunch of screws for outlets and receptacles. Otherwise, it’s a 5 star tool

Bought these to do lots of electrical projects on my facility. Made it through copper and aluminum wires alright. Cut some steel tie wire and instantly chipped the blade. Now the pliers get stuck in the closed position. My $5 set it wire pliers do better with cutting. Will be returning and getting knipex instead.

                                            Heavy-duty and well-built
Well-built, sturdy and heavy-duty wire strippers are easy to use and strip accurately every time without nicking the wire. I do a great deal of electrical work and have used many wire strippers over the years and have found this wire stripper to be the highest quality of all the wire strippers I have used. I will note that only individuals that are knowledgeable in electric work should attempt to do electrical work. I would recommend these wire strippers.

It has helped me greatly with some projects I have done so far and I will say that I will be using them for more. It is very practical and it has helped adjust some wires I have needed to set up lights and fans. I really like it and is easy to read the size of wire that you are striping. The material is really good and it works without any struggle. I highly recommend this product.

                                            Automatic stripper
Automatic wire strippers are the way to go. These are nice because they work so well. This stripper will work on #18 to #8 stranded wire and #20 to #10 solid copper wire. Wire sizes are clearly marked on the cutter. The gripper holds fast while the dies cuts and removes the insulation. All you have to do is adjust the length and squeeze the padded handles. If you strip too much a cutter is also on the tool.

One hand and one squeeze = DONE!
The Milwaukee automatic wire stripper is a great time saver and is so easy to use – simply clamp the wire aligned with the correct wire size and squeeze the handles together with one hand. In one motion the tool will clamp the wire, cut the insulation and remove it off the end of the wire. Releasing the spring-loaded grip unclamps the wire for easy removal and it’s ready for the next cut. The tool fits in your hand very comfortably and requires little effort to squeeze the pliers like handles. I had a similar wire stripper years ago but it was borrowed and never returned (obviously the borrower liked it as much as I did) and this Milwaukee tool is the long awaited replacement. It is a Milwaukee so you know it is made of quality materials and craftsmanship. Overall, I am very pleased with this tool and recommend.
