Questions & Answers

Can you lock the knife on a 45?
ByDec 6, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The Milwaukee FASTBACK™ 6-in-1 Folding Utility Knife (48-22-1505) does not have a 45° lock position. It is designed with a spring lock mechanism that secures the blade in the fully open position (180°) for cutting and fully closed for storage.

I returned mine that did the same thing. No receipt, it was beat up and about a year old

This must be an issue with Milwaukee's bit- holding design (tiny ball bearing held in place by a metal tension band). I have a Milwaukee 27 in 1 screwdriver and the extension did the same thing making it pretty much useless. Thanks for this review!

Hey there! If you look on the bottom side of the knife you will see a lock that just needs to be moved to fold it back in, if you need any further assistance please email us at social.media@milwaukeetool.com!

That worked to retract the knife but not the bit holder. Mine is still extended straight out.

With knife in hand bit side up slide clip to right as in picture and fold bit holder back to knife.

Look at this video around 3:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia711ZixVkE If the video doesn't work, I think it's called a liner lock or frame lock in pocket knives. You need to push the metal slat(?) at the base of the bit holder to the side.

                          New bit holder design sucks!
The ball bearing always falls out of the bit holder. This is my forth one. Had no issues with the old design. I use this knife everyday and its very disappointing. Please fix this, I know im not the only one with this issue.

I love the product but I feel like the one I got a bad knife. If I didn’t get a defective knife it would have been perfect.

                                Not so good
The older version of this knife was a lot better. I got a new 6in 1 knife from my wife for Christmas. The bb ball that holds the bit in place is fell out after opening. Not sure why they changed it. This was my favorite knife not anymore. Please go back to the original design.

                                      Bad screwdriver bit retension
Normally I dont leave reviews for anything but here I am. The knife portion, I have no complaints about. The screwdriver bit holder sucks since they changed the design if how the bit is held in place. I unfortunately lost my old knife that had the old style internal clip to hold the bit. The new knife has a external metal collar with a detent ball to hold the ball. The ball disappears and then almost immediately, the screwdriver bit WILL disappear since there's nothing to hold it in place anymore. Went through 2 knifes because of this poor design. Unless the design goes back to the old design, I'll stay with my Kline knife. At least it retains its bit when I need it

                                        Screwdriver Bit Holder
I've owned a couple of these now and they have both failed the same way. The metal collar that goes over the ball bearing that holds the screwdriver bits in somehow slides out of position, causing the bearing to fall out of the tool and unless you have good eyes and ears you will probably never find it again. Once the bearing is gone the bit no longer clips into the tool, so it falls out almost every time you set the tool down. I'm not expecting miracles out of it as far as a screwdriver but if I am in a situation where I didn't bring a screwdriver with me and I have this and can't use it without the bit falling out it makes that function of the tool pretty much useless. Milwaukee needs to rethink the design of the locking mechanism for screwdriver bits. If I ever get another one I will probably glue the bearing retaining clip in place so it can't slide down anymore which I shouldn't have to do.
