This has become my go-to utility knife. It's sturdy, well made, and the fastback folding design is preferential to more traditional slide-out models that tend to wear over time. The compact design makes it easy to clip to your belt or toss in your pocket with out getting in the way. One of the best features is the exposed (although protected) blade when it's folded up. I frequently use this to cut rope or mesh fencing when doing gardening and landscaping on my property. If you're in the market for a new utility knife, this is a good one and is typical of the quality you'd expect from the Milwaukee name.

Don't fix what isn't broken
The old version was stronger, tougher and meaner. What's with this pansy version? Plastic... doesn't flip out one-handed with ease, missing the cutter and is just plain wimpy. One is a tool & the other is a toy. Please tell me you have a replacement belt clip for the old version because that's my only issue with the trusty old one... it fell off so I bought this new one to replace it. Please bring back the old one! This plastic fastback feels like it's on a fast track to the trash receptacle!

Blade holder is loose.
I love the new design and look which is mainly why I got this. I carry my fastback when I go to work every day and use it often sharpenIng carpentry pencils, cutting boxes open, and other random construction stuff. The clip redesign is way better and they included a blade button release guard as well as moved the release button on the other side of the blade. Now the bad. The first thing I noticed was the blade holder is loose and Isnn't holding it's self closed. It makes the knife feel cheap and broken. Also you can't open the blade holder of the blade is closed. I like to keep the blade closed and replace the used blades I've collected with new ones. The second thing I didn't like is this new knife doesn't have a 45° stop like my old one. My 48-22-1903 fastback can lock open at 45° for more forceful cutting, and the blade holder is stays closed! I thought about returning the knife but I didn't want to go through the hassle so now I'm just going to forget about it and throw it in the toolbox for emergency knife uses.

Loved the knife, built solid, the fold back blade holder is nice, the clip is not flimsy and works out good, the clip is roughly the entire length of the knife. See the attached photo for what I’m talking about when I mean the folding blade. The “blade” obviously is not spring loaded but if you flick your wrist good enough it will snap open. Overall very happy.

This little folding knife is now one of the most used tools in my toolbox. It's lightweight, compact, holds the blade very securely, and also hold up to 5 spare blades in the handle. It flips open using only one hand, and closes one-handed also. Please note that Milwaukee blades are thicker than some Stanley blades. If you try to use the thinner blades, they will not be held as securely as if you use the proper thicker blades, and you might break the thinner blade. After using this knife, I got rid of my Stanley folding knife which uses the thinner blades.

This is a light weight combination utility knife and wire stripper. It also has a place to place the measuring tape so to score the surface of the material that is being measured. It come with a belt hook as well. I doesn't have a compartment to store extra blades but it can store one or two in the blade holder that flips out of the inside of the knife.

The Milwaukee FASTBACK 1.27 in. Blade Length Folding Utility Knife with Blade Storage is the best utility knife I have seen in years. Milwaukee took everything that was wrong with the traditional utility knife and made it better. Having the blade fold into the handle like a pocket knife ensures the cutting edge is stowed safely out of the way. No more accidental cuts caused by a blade that wasn't fully retracted. I have always found it frustrating to change the blade on a traditional utility knife. First you have to find a screwdriver to open the handle, then it can take several attempts to get the thumb-slide and blade to set, just right, before it will operate correctly. Milwaukee makes it simple to swap a blade in a matter of seconds, no tools required. They have added the convenience of one-handed opening, a gut hook for cutting string and twine without unfolding the blade, and a belt clip and lanyard loop so it is always at the ready. As with most things Milwaukee does, they got this right.

The Milwaukee fastback utility knife is a great little knife for everyday DIY projects. The wire stripper is nice and could also cut through the wire depending on how thin your wire is. The GUT hook is probably the best part and a great idea, without the need to flip open the knife you an cut wire, string and plastic rope quickly. The belt clip is strong and I love how it's "notched" at the end so slipping it over larger belts is a breeze. Makes me wonder why all other brands haven't figured out this simple design. It also carries extra blades in the bottom cartridge. I've had this for a while now and I can say is been used a ton and it's simply super helpful. Would by again.

This review is for the Milwaukee FASTBACK 1.27 in. Blade Length Folding Utility Knife with Blade Storage. Utility knives have evolved over the years they are no longer bulky7 hard to change blade knives. This Milwaukee FASTBACK knife is a prime example of the utility knife design changes that have occurred over the years. This knife has good weight and balance and when closed is only approximately 4.5 inches long. The knife fits perfectly and comfortably in your hand. The knife has a belt clip which is very handy or because of it’s smaller size the knife can be easily carried in your pocket. The spare blade holder flips out easily and is magnetized to hold the blades securely but still easily attainable. The tool free quick change blade mechanism with metal extension to prevent accidental blade removal is so handy and easy to use I can’t believe it. In my opinion Milwaukee Tool has made a superb utility knife that should be in everyone’s toolbox.
