Q:Is it possible to remove it from painted surfaces?

    Answer This Question

A:  That could be difficult, dependent upon the type of paint you are writing on. I typically use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to remove permanent marker. With anything less you'll have to scrub a bit. So if your cleaning a surface, such as a latex painted wall, either the alcohol or the scrubbing with soapy water will inevitably harm the paint. It'll probably rub the color out or smear the marker ink in with the paint. However, if it's an Oil based paint, given it has dried and cured as per instruction, quick cleans with Isopropyl or scrubbing a bit won't harm it at all. Isopropyl can dull the shine of oil based finishes like Polyurethane (clear coats) if it hasn't cured for several months, but a little light scrubbing is fine. WD-40 cleaner & degreaser worked like magic on all the surfaces I used it on, but it's rarely in stock anymore. Used to get a gallon for $10. My backup cleaner is Oil Eater (just have to be mindful of metals.) Happy hunting...... -Max
