Questions & Answers

What blade(s) would you recommend using on wooden 2x4’s and 4x4’s to make smooth, non-jagged, clean cuts. I only have to make a few cuts, not many.
ByJul 30, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Use a Milwaukee AX™ Carbide Wood Blade (e.g., 48-00-5026) for smooth cuts on 2x4s/4x4s. For the cleanest finish: choose a fine-tooth blade (8–12 TPI).

I need to cut tree roots, will m12 sawzall reciprocating brushless saw work well?
    ByJul 23, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

The M12 FUEL HACKZALL can cut small tree roots, but it’s not ideal for heavy or dense roots. For larger roots or continuous cutting, an M18 FUEL Super Sawzall is better suited (more power, longer runtime).

      What does brushless mean?
      ByJul 21, 2026

      Answer This Question

Brushless means the motor has no carbon brushes, giving more power, longer runtime, and longer motor life compared to brushed motors.

What is the depth of this product with the battery installed? I am cutting the ends off of installed joists so it needs to be perpendicular to the joists and fit in the 16 inch OC (meaning 14.5 inch) space between the the joists.

        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hi Bubb. The M12 HACKZALL with a 1.5Ah battery installed is about 11" long, so it fits between 14.5" joist spacing and works for perpendicular cutting inside bays.

          Answer This Question

Hi, Jesse. The difference between the 2420-20 and 2420-21 is that the 2420-20 is the tool-only version, while the 2420-21 is a kit that includes additional accessories.

The first one I bought about 15 years ago finally died after years of putting it good use on many projects as my good to tool. It is small and easy to handle in tight spaces as well as storing it.That's why it was a no-brainer to replace it with the exact same model.

Compact Beast: Milwaukee 2520-20 Hackzall Packs Serious Power in a Small Package
The 2520-20 M12 Hackzall has become one of my go-to tools for quick cuts and tight spaces. It’s lightweight and super portable—perfect for trimming a few branches around the yard or getting into cramped spots during auto repairs where a full-size Sawzall just won’t fit. Despite its compact size, it’s got a surprisingly powerful motor. It cuts fast and doesn’t bog down easily, whether I’m working on wood, plastic, or metal. For how small it is, it punches way above its weight. Battery fitment is solid—no wiggle or looseness with any of the M12 batteries. I usually pair it with a CP2.0 to keep things light and maneuverable, but if I’m doing a longer job or making lots of cuts, I’ll pop on an XC4.0 for the extra runtime without sacrificing balance too much. Overall, it’s an incredibly handy little saw that’s earned a permanent spot in my tool bag. Great mix of power, portability, and versatility.

                  Must Have
I often buy Milwaukee tools, but I have been disappointed with the quality of my recent purchases. However, this particular tool is not one of them. It works great and has impressive power. I am happy to have it in my collection.

                    Jammed Up
Tool jammed up so the blade cannot be removed. The release collar is supposed to turn freely to release the blade but it completely jammed up and now the tool is junk! Of course it is outside the warranty period cutoff.

Lots of power for the size!
I've had this saw for a couple of years. Like all my m12 tools, one of its biggest strengths is its small size. I've used it to cut metal and pvc pipes and it performed great, but I mostly use it with a pruning blade around the yard for trimming branches. The lightweight means you can easily handle it with one hand and hold onto the branch with your other hand. I've even used it to cut down our Christmas tree the last couple years!

                        Cuts a decent size tree
I want to leave this review for people like myself who read countless reviews trying to decide between the M18 Fuel and the M12 Fuel versions of this tool for cutting tree limbs instead of a chainsaw. My need was a smaller tree had come down in our yard and needed to be cut up for disposal. The largest diameter of the trunk was around 6-7 inches. This saw got it done with very little struggle, and I was very pleased to not have to deal with a return and having to spend more for the M18. The saw is hefty but small, and insanely powerful. Here it is pared with a Milwaukee 9" 5tpi wood with nails rated blade that I had on hand. If what you're trying to cut is any larger than this, then I would move up to the M18, but the value for the M12 fuel saw is insanely high, and I cannot recommend this one enough.

                          No what I expected.
Bought this needing to cut holes in plywood for work. The 1.5 mah battery lasted for five cuts barely. Even with the 4 mah it barely lasted 20 cuts. I’m not pleased with this. I have the m12 fuel hammer drill and impact combo and love then. Even have the m12 3/8 impact for the shop and it works amazing, sadly I’m not pleased with this hacksaw. Doesn’t last long and is slow

Two Bad Batteries on a brand new tool
I received my brand new tool and went to charge the battery and the charger showed that it had a fault. I called Milwaukee Tool and spoke to someone and said that i could either return it or send in the battery and get a new one, basically admitting that it's fairly common that bad batteries in brand new tools happen. i chose to send in the battery and get a new one. When i received the new battery, i put it on the charger and had the same issue of the red and green lights. i borrowed a charger from a friend to see if it was a bad issue, but saw the same result. i called the 1-800 number again and they told me i should return the tool to Home Depot. As someone who lives in Milwaukee, i'm just really disappointed in this experience and I won't be buying Milwaukee tools again in the future. It seems fairly rudimentary that the battery should be tested before it leaves the factory, considering the charger tells you within five seconds that there's a fault.I would think that would be even more important on a warranty replacement.
