No, you plug it into the USB port and press the USB button and it will charge off the battery. Works great.

I own an M18 Red Lithium lantern complete with removable black base. How do I charge my lantern?

This lantern uses Milwaukee M18 battery system, which is a battery pack that is used in a wide range of power tools and accessories manufactured with the trade name of Milwaukee. Usually people buy a cordless drill with the m18 kit that includes a drill, battery, charger, etc. But you can purchase just extra chargers. Just look for "M18 charger" here on the Home Depot website and there are at least 4 different stand alone chargers available (some that do the M12 and M18 batteries, some multiple M18 batteries, one can be used in a car, one rapid charger), as well as battery and charger combos if you need extra batteries, in addition to combo units with drills, etc.

How long is runtime with 9.0 battery on each of the settings?

Asked by Jonny March 14, 2018

Answers

A very long time. I usually use it on full blast only. I use it for days off and on before I recharge it. But I have never exhausted the 9.0 battery. I would not have the patience to conduct these experiments because it would take to long to conduct.

what is the runtime on each setting using a 4.0 battery?

Runtimes are not fixed because of the state of each battery varies. I write the month/year on mine to track the health of my batteries. Also lithium batteries should not be left on the charger once they are full. What I can tell you is I run the low charge ones in my lamp and save the full ones for my tools. I’ve done a few power shutdowns and over-nights with no issues. So far the light has never died on me. Also pull the battery from the base to save your On/off button when I want to turn it off.

Will the Milwaukee M18 9.0 battery work with this Lantern??

ANY M18 battery will fit ANY M18 tool and ANY M12 battery will fit ANY M12 tool. "Will they WORK" means you have to match the energy output of the battery to the tool you are using.

Received defective
Lantern arrived damaged, the semi-round plastic cover of the right LED panel was detached. I did not want to deal with store or Home Depot CSR over the phone so disassembled and fixed myself. That’s why only 1 star.

Love the Milwaukee 700 lumen led lantern/ floodlight. It’s so bright, I use it for everything when I need light. Whether it’s in the crawlspace or working on car’s. I even take a fission with me to my best friend when I go fission it helps me see the bait hooks and everything when I need it might have to buy another one that’s all good it is.Milwaukee for life

Bought to use around the property when a regular "flash"light is impractical. This lantern, with its flat, weighted (battery) base can be placed securely on the ground to fully illuminate a dark area 15x15 or so. Depending on your eyes' adaptivity, results could vary. When hung from its sturdy stainless hooks, the area lit could expand to 20x20+. Love the USB 5V 2.1A charging port to give any USB device a charge. It would be awesome if this port could also charge the M18 Battery, but the Milwaukee Rapid Charger handles that end of things. Run-time is no-issue (94 hours on Lo, 22.5 hours Med, 11.25 hours on Hi with 5.0 battery)...with the new 9.0 HD battery, run times are 169-hours-on-Low (*that's over SEVEN calendar DAYS--straight!), 40.5 hours on Med, and 20.25 hours on High . I own all M18 sizes of battery and they ALL work in this bright 27 LED light (9 LEDs arranged in three vertical strips). Weight is 2.8 lbs with the 5.0Ah battery, or, with the compact 1.5Ah battery, it's 2.13 lbs (for reference, the M12 weighs 1.93 lbs with 4.0 battery). This lantern makes a valuable addition to my collection of M18 tools. I wish I bought it sooner!

Not very good as a free standing lantern
The issue is the base, because the lantern is so tall the base is not wide enough to offer free standing stability in many conditions. Even with a heavy M18 5a battery it may fall over if the the surface it is standing on is not completely level. Outdoors almost any wind will knock it over, so for camping it is not a very good choice. Other than the stability issue which is a obvious design flaw, the light offers very good illumination. The USB charging port is nice, but as devices move toward USB-C it is going to be obsolete very soon (if not already). If you already have M18 batteries and find the light on sale it might be ok, but otherwise plenty of other choices that may be better purchases.
