How do you keep the screw from backing out? It keeps coming off. What use is a quick change system when you have to use a screw driver to tighten the bolt (and it still comes loose) . Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've tried every possible way but I'm sure someone can tell me I'm the only one having this problem.
Asked by: GaryH
First, not to be cynical here, but if you are using, or even feel you need to use a tool like a screwdriver, wrench, Allen wrench or anything else, you are really doing something wrong. This tool needs nothing but your fingers.

IS THIS A GOOD TOOL FOR TRIM WORK?

I SAY TRIM WORK-BUT I MIGHT NOT BE SAYING IT CORRECTLY. I NEED TO CUT SOME PIECES OF WOOD DOWN TO SIZE, IS THIS A GOOD TOOL THAT WILL GET FLUSH AGAINST THINGS?
Asked by: SPLINTERS
I would not use this tool for trim. It is good for snipping off screws on a board ect but I would not consider it a replacement for a saw.

This tool seems to have adequate power for cutting Hardwood with ease. When attempting to cut into square corners it requires a wider blade that the one that came with it as the housing is wider than the length of the blade stroke. With the 18 volt battery it is longer and heavier than the corded multi tools that I have used in the past. The system for attaching the blade is also more complicated and more time-consuming then the system's on most multi-tools. With this tool you must release a lever and remove a screw in order to get the blade off then to put the new blade on you must install the screw and then flip the lever back again. At this point I'm still using the Milwaukee blade that came with the tool . When using Universal blades made by other manufacturers it may not be necessary to completely remove the screw.

Once again the amount of times this multi-tool from Milwaukee has saved me from the brink of frustration is nothing short of miraculous. It has a definite place in any tool arsenal from the professional to the casual DIYer. I use this tool so much in face that this purchase is my third one. Only wish is that Milwaukee would make it in the Fuel series with a brushless motor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Robust, well balanced, powerful I had a King Canada cordless oscillating multi-tool that I picked up a woodworking show. It was ok, but not too robust. Eventually the battery cover broke making it difficult to use. A few years ago I began replacing my old Ni-Cad cordless tools with the Milwaukee M18 line and have been delighted with the quality and power offered by these tools. When the battery on the King stopped charging, I threw it out and replaced it with the Milwaukee. My only disappointment was that the Milwaukee didn't have an adapter which let me re-use the King accessories. I ended up buying all-new accessories -- although these are better quality than the King. The Milwaukee is a bit heaver and larger than the King was, making it a bit more awkward to maneuver, but its far more powerful and the extra heft helps a bit with control.

I am switching some tools over to Milwaukee due to the (good) quality of their impacts drivers and wrenches. I purchased this multi-tool at the same time as the drywall tool. The drywall tool seems to work fine, I'm happy with it. This multi-tool, however, suffered from a few fatal flaws that led me to return it. 1) Battery life - this is a simple gripe, but this tool seemed to chew through batteries quickly. Because of that, I found myself reaching for my corded multi-tool whenever possible. 2) Vibration and side effects - The first time I used the multi-tool for any substantial project I found that I couldn't remove the battery. I disassembled the battery and then the base of the tool to find that one of the red battery push button "wedges" was fused to the housing of the multi-tool. I thought maybe I had some construction adhesive or something on it and ignored it. Over the next couple days I was quick to remove the battery and check it here and there and I noticed something strange. The vibration of the tool is abrasive to the edges of the battery pack and each material began to melt / smear against one another. 3) Durability - In addition to the battery issue above, the plastic fan for the motor separated from the shaft during use one afternoon. I was using a carbide blade to cut nails under a tough to get to carpet strip. No easy use - but something the tool should've been able to handle in my opinion. Once the unit let the smoke out, I grabbed the trusty Bosch corded unit and breezed through the rest of the project. Durability is a concern to me because I don't baby my tools. I work hard, and I expect them to as well. Flashy marketing and "most powerful" claims mean NOTHING if the product isn't DURABLE. This failure came on the heels of a three week old FUEL 18v circular saw breaking due to a blade brake that failed to disengage, meaning the blade wouldn't spin up. This makes me increasingly nervous about swapping over to Milwaukee from Bosch. In the last ten years I haven't had a single Bosch tool failure. I returned the multi-tool and will stick with Bosch on this one. If you're cutting in trim here and there, this might work for you. For more than that, look elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Blade Attachment Design Ive been using this tool for about 9 months of commercial construction. It performs equal to my dremel corded version, and better when considering its cordless. I am heavily invested in the milwaukee m18 platform and love almost all my red tools. This is the exception. The blade attachment mechanism wore out and now the securing screw cant be properly tigtened. The screw falls completely out of the housing and the blade falls off the tool. I put it back on, use it for 15 seconds, same thing. Im by no means a new user to this tool. Ive successfully changed blades hundreds of times ans used the tool for countless hours. Try a different blade? Same result. Try milwaukee blades? Yep, they fall out. Id avoid this one. Time for a fuel redesign...

I had to remove a kitchen shelf to make room for my new fridge and wanted to avoid as much cosmetic damage as possible. The blades went thru the finish nails without issues, but don’t last as much as expected. Having an extra set will help with any project. The tool works great with my M18 batteries. A little heavy, but well worth it.
