A:  Thank you for taking the time to ask this question. I'm sure it was hard typing and eating lead paint chips on the short bus but you did it! Yay! I'd recommend sticking to a plastic toy set of Stanley Tools

            M18 High Output XC6.0
I have a few of these. I think they are the best size/weight to output. I recently got the M18 XC6.0 FORGE; which might be my new favorite?

              Great tool
I have a Milwaukee corded grinder, which I am very happy with. But the cordless is the way to go. I has just as much power as the corded version. I had a cheap orange one I won't mention the brand. I had that for 20years and didn't have any issues with until I got this one. Wow what a difference. I'm painter so I don't use it for welding jobs. I use it to cut a variety of things. Metal, tile backer board. Even sanding. I have several different blade and sanding discs. I'm very happy with this tool.

Great Design - Lots of Power
This Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 4-1/2 in./5 in. Grinder with Variable Speed & Paddle Switch is a premium quality 4 ½ & 5 in. angle grinder that can use any M18 battery. This is a tool-only grinder so you need an M18 battery and charger. I decided upon this particular model #2888-20 because it has a paddle-style on/off switch and it has 5 speeds to select from. The brushless-motor in this FUEL model gives more power with less energy consumption than older designs. In fact, the Milwaukee FUEL line of cordless tools is the only one I will buy. I still have some brushed-motor Milwaukee tools but once you try one of these Milwaukee FUEL tools you will be spoiled. I used a 2.0 amp M18 battery and a metal cutting disk to cut off a pipe sticking out of the ground in my yard. This grinder cut it off quickly with no stalling on speed setting 3. Lots of power! Milwaukee says that grinder has the equivalent power of an 11 amp corded grinder and I believe it. I also used a grinding wheel just to test it out on some rusty scrap metal and was impressed. This grinder has a 5/8 inch arbor and that has some people confused about what size of disk it requires. The answer is that you need cutting or grinding disks with a 7/8 inch diameter hole. This and most other 5/8 in. arbor grinders have an adapter ring/shoulder that perfectly centers these 7/8 in. hole diameter disks. Angle grinders are very useful tools to have around the shop. They can cut metals and masonry, use wire wheels for rust removal, use grinding wheels for metal grinding and lots of other things. A very good feature of this grinder is that when you release the trigger paddle the blade stops almost instantly. It is an impressive safety feature. It seems that my old corded grinder takes 10-15 seconds to stop, and I wind up wasting time holding it up and waiting for it to stop. I also like this grinder’s safety shield. It is a 2-piece combo shield that works for both 4 ½ in. and 5 in. diameter disks and it can be rotated to the left or right just by pressing a spring-loaded lever. The same lever allows quick tool-less removal of the shield. The side handle can be attached to either side of the grinder in a few seconds depending upon how you intend to use the tool. The tool is covered by a 5 -year warranty. I liked the paddle-style trigger and the only drawback is that it can’t be locked in the “on” position like the sliding-switch versions. You can get a sliding-switch version of this grinder if that’s what you like. This tool is another example of the professional quality that I have come to expect from the Milwaukee FUEL line. This is a great tool and I highly recommend it.

              Another Milwaukee Tool Winner!
We've been slowly switching out our older cheaper electric/battery powered tools for Milwaukee. You can get other brands for less money - you won't get the Milwaukee Tool quality. I have a 9-year old Milwaukee Tool battery drill/driver (a lighter weight version); it's my go-to tool, so it's well-used - and it's still going strong! We have some mortar needing to be cleaned up and tuck-pointed. While this Cordless Grinder didn't come with any tools or battery, we have M18 batteries. And it's inexpensive to purchase mortar grinder wheels. Be aware this is a fairly heavy tool: by the time you insert the battery and wheel, it's going to weigh over 5 lbs. The extended grip helps balance the weight, but your arms are going to get a workout. Sure, there are lighter options out there, but with the Milwaukee Brand you get quality and longevity.

              Power & Flexibility
Fast and efficient in the right hands (I need more practice - watch the video) this well made grinder is almost the same as my corded model but with the freedom to move without worrying about the cord. Weight-wise it feels about the same as the old one too. Assembly is quick and easy and the guard position can be switched around instantly. The paddle switch as a good deal of control and is not tiring to use. The tool brakes quickly which is a good safety feature.

              Really heavy and eats batteries
This is kind of a niche tool. For home use my corded tools weigh less, have more power, and cost a lot less. Even the corded tools that have less than this tool's claimed 11 amp equivalent power have more guts. Plus my corded tools are much more compact. After adding a 6+ amp hour battery to get some useable time out of this thing it is very bulky and easily twice as heavy as a corded tool. Now as for out in the field away from an outlet then yeah it is useful. The speed control adds a fine touch to polishing and sanding operations. But I mostly use it for cutting. Things like brick. Suddenly it is a battery hog that doesn't feel any more powerful than any other cordless grinder I've used. It is a burst of productivity until your battery is dead and you have wrist fatigue from the bulk and weight. I will say that it is well made and designed. It is vented in a way to avoid eating it's own dust and is very solid. I just don't like the overmolded butyl rubber stuff that is a sand and dirt magnet that makes this thing feel gritty and slippery.

              So convenient
This is my first battery operated grinder and I can assure you it is just as strong as a corded but far more convenient. It's very easy to handle and is significantly lighter than my corded. Setup was very easy. The easily adjustable guard is so much better than the ones that require screw driver adjustments. It only comes with the 5inch guard and states you should get a 4.5 inch guard if that's what you're going to use. I used it using a diamond blade to cut cement board and it blasted through it like it was nothing using a 4.5 inch blade . Highly recommended and it will get yons of use.

              Excellent multi-speed cordless grinder
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel 18-volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 4 ½ inch to 5 inch Side Grinder with Variable Speed and Paddle Switch is a totally awesome grinder. It has all the features: battery powered, brushless motor, 5-speed selector dial, rapid stop, paddle switch that is locked when off, moveable side handle, convenient spindle lock, adjustable/removeable guard, and uses the standard 7/8 inch arbor cut-off and grinding wheels. The power of this grinder is equivalent to an 11 amp corded grinder but with the convenience of being able to use it anywhere without a cord. The RapidStop break stops the rotation from 0.87 seconds for cutting wheels to 1.67 seconds for the heavier abrasive wheels. This grinder can use any M18 Milwaukee Battery making it very adaptable. The non-locking paddle switch is easy to use, it doesn’t lock “on” but has a safety lock to keep it from accidently turning on. The variable speed motor is selectable from 3,500 RPM to 8,500 RPM. This is a very nice grinder. This particular option is the tool only, as there is no battery or charger, however I have M18 batteries from other Milwaukee tools I have. Tool is made in Vietnam and all other parts are made in China.

I compared this new XC 6.0Ah High Output battery to one of my trusty XC 5.0 batteries. The XC6.0 at 2 lbs 6 oz weighs 13 ounces more than the XC 5.0. The XC 6.0 is 1" longer and 1/2" taller than the XC 5.0. I tested both in my 2630-20 6.5" circular saw. I was able to complete cuts in 2" x 10" material 50% faster with the XC 6.0 than with the XC 5.0, using the same amount of forward pressure on the saw with each. You'll have to decide for yourself what a 50% productivity increase is worth when sawing or grinding or doing other high power requirement jobs, but for me it's a no-brainer. I didn't compare how long the battery lasted. The XC 6.0 is rated at 108 watt-hours vs 90 for the XC 5.0, so as well as having 50% more power it should last longer on the job too. An instruction sheet was included with general M18 battery instructions, but there was no specific information about the XC 6.0 battery.
