Product Details

Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation introduces new Speed Feed Self-Feeding Wood Bits delivering clean holes up to 10 times faster than flat boring bits. Speed Feed Wood Bits include features such as a feed screw, double wing spurs and a tapered design. The double wing spurs cut clean holes for feeding wire or bolts through and the feed screw and dual cutting edges provide up to 10 times faster drilling vs. flat boring bits. Many applications, such as running new home electrical wires through dimensional lumber, require the user to make clean holes so the wire will not get caught on debris or splinters. While flat boring bits are often used for this type of application, the new Speed Feed Wood Bits provide improved performance over their counterpart and allow the user to get the job done much faster and with less effort.
  • Up to 10 times faster drilling vs. flat boring bits
  • Coated flutes for fast chip removal
  • Double wing spurs for clean hole cutting
  • 1/4 in. power groove shank fits all 1/4 in. extensions

Q:Not sure what these bits are good for. I just tried using one of them for the first time to drill two holes in a pt 2x4. The bit wouldn?t go a 1/16th? without clogging up the tip. Had to switch to a speedbore bit, which worked much better.

A:  I use these in my cordless driver set on impact.. much faster than a speed bore and these don’t bend. The only real problem is OSB. That junk clogs most bits, but a quick burst in reverse while keeping on the pressure will help clear the bit. These are my favorite bits to use in new construction and I have not broken the threaded self feed tip or the teeth yet.

A:  These bits bore through standard 2x4, 2x6 like butter. I use to drill holes for electric wiring. I have easily gone through this type of lumber doubled up. Not sure why it would be different for pt.  You have to go straight and let the bit do the work. I find they actually pull through the lumber quite aggressively so you need to be careful. Sorry if this post is of no help.

Bits are decent / packaging = Bloody fingers
Bits are decent / packaging is a nightmare - The bits are decent for around home use, but I have nothing good to say about how the packaging is done and how easily you can get cut pulling these out of the holder

Sloppy Holes!! Practically expensive spade bits!
Besides being self driving with the snail, the purpose of good auger bits is to achieve nice, clean holes. That’s what the cutters on the outside are supposed to do. Otherwise, if you were just looking for speed, you would be better off using spade bits. Very disappointed to find that not only are these bits not sharp at all, but they make terribly messy holes. The cutters just catch wood and rip huge gouges around the hole opening - again, something I would have expected from spade bits. Overall, very disappointed.

Milwaukee....Speed Feed Auger Wood Drilling Bits. Set includes 1 ea. 1/2 in 5/8in 3/4 in and 1 in self feeding wood bits I bought these bits for a pergola project I have coming up I wish the set came with a 7/8 in bit but 1 in will work just fine the 1/4 in shank is so helpful when using it with my impact driver. I like the double wing spurs and the tapered design the dual cutting edges really do speed up the drilling process I prefer these speed auger bits over flat boring bits anytime I'm not sure what the flutes are coated with but nothing but dust sticks to them I love these bits. They more than met my expectations and I highly recommend these speed auger bits.

              Short and Cheap
I have no idea why these are rated so highly. These are impossible to remove from their respective holders in the red plastic case. You need to use a needle nose plier and pray you don't cut yourself trying to remove each bit. The bits, especially the thinner ones, are way too short. You can't even get thru a 2x4. Over a year, half of these bits have broken on me. Cheaply made, terrible case.

                save your money
Do they drill good and stay sharp? Only some of them, and thats with the use of lube. The case that they come in is a pain to get the bits out of without cutting your fingers on the bits on the back row while getting a bit out of the front row. The shockwave technology doesnt work. I have 5 of them that twisted the shank and broke. Save your money. I do have a few miscellaneous Milwaukee cobalt bits and they seem worth it. Disapointed in the quality and thats coming from a guy that has a lot of Milwaukee tools.

First of all, they come in a sturdy, well made case. The drill bit comes with an hexagonal shape to perfectly fit the drill chuck so you don’t have to deal with it slipping. Besides that, the hexagonal shape will fit in a variety of different snap-on chucks. Another pro, because of the way the tip is made it won’t slip on the surface of what you’re drilling. So far, even tho they’re made in china, I can promise you they got the same quality feel of the old Milwaukee sets.

I have been using this kit for only two months now and this is the best drill bit set I have ever owned! The 135 degree points keep the bits from walking when trying to start a hole,. The hex shank holds tight in my Milwaukee impact driver/drill and the rugged plastic case keeps the bits organized and clean. I would definitely recommend this kit!

Sharp set of drills with a good variety of sizes
I'm a big fan of the Milwaukee Shockwave concept since it makes changing drills a breeze since each one has the same sized 1/4" hex shank which also improves the grip in the chuck and limits the bit slipping during use. The hex shank also acts as a shock absorber, managing the initial torque as the drill starts to cut, prolonging the life of the drills and minimizing breakage. There were some features I really liked about these new drills: 1) The larger sized drills have a 'Chip breaker' groove cut in the tip which is intended to allow the drill to run slightly cooler, prolonging the life of the drill by getting the cut metal shards out of the way more effectively rather than having them grind around at the tip as the drill continues to cut the hole. 2) The flutes on the drills are designed to carry the swarf away from the cutting area more quickly with what Milwaukee calls 'variable helix'. You see this most if your cutting something soft like aluminum or plastic where the ribbons of swarf quickly ride up the drill flutes away from the hole. 3) the 135 degree angle of the drill tip prevents the drill from wandering around the metal if you haven't used a hole punch to mark where you want to start to drill. The drills come in a handy hard plastic storage case which means you can keep them organized as opposed to floating around in a tool chest drawer (as is the case with most of my other drill bits). Each drill size is clearly marked on the holder in the case however in a small oversight, when the drills are rotated upwards for removal, the sizes marked on the case are no longer readable however the drill size is also etched on the hex shank as a backup. The drill bits can be quite snug in their holders too, so it pays to use gloves to pull the stubborn ones out to avoid cutting your fingers on the sharp flutes. There is a very good variety of sizes included in this set which lends itself as well to drilling in metal, wood, plastic etc. The greater variet of 'no standard' sizes is very useful for drilling specific sized holes needed for screw thread taps. I have owned this set for a few months now and have used it frequently and haven't yet noticed any dulling in the cutting ability of the drill bits I've used, so they certainly do appear to be a lot longer lasting than the more conventional carbon drill bits as Milwaukee claims. For example I drill around 70 rivet heads out and the drill I was using was as quick on the 70th one as it was on the first. The sizes included in this set are: 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 7/64", 1/8", 9/64", 5/32", 11/64", 3/16", 13/64", 7/32", 15/64", 1/4", 17/64", 9/32", 19/64", 5/16", 21/64", 11/32", 23/64", 3/8", 25/64", 13/32", 27/64", 7/16", 29/64", 15/32", 31/64", 1/2.

Excellent Drill Bit Kit, Superior Storage Box
I have had this drill bit set for a while now, but waited to put it to more extensive use before providing my comments. So far these bits have worn very well with moderate use on steel, metal, wood and cement block. What I like most about them is the hexagonal shank that virtually eliminates chuck slippage using my conventional drill, and facilitates easy bit changes using a hex insert or an impact drill. They are very sharp, and the plastic storage box serves as an excellent, compact place to quickly organize, find and select the bit size you’re looking for – bit size slots are well marked, and unlike a typical storage container for round shank bits, the hex-design shank does a good job of keeping the bits from falling loose (I turned it upside down and shook it, nothing fell out!). A positive locking clip on the outside of the storage box ensures a secure closure. This is a quality product that will last a long time. Highly recommended.
