Questions & Answers

Will this work on a regular portable hand drill?

Asked by Phanman September 19, 2019

The bits will fit but It really depends on the drill. These are made for making large holes in framing lumber and larger drills with high torque will be able to handle that task while smaller drills may not. What you'll probably face though is the drill not having the power to make it all the way through and binding or stalling. You can burn out the motor in the drill. Look up the manual for the drill and see if it has capacities for self-feed bits and use that as a guide to whether you can or not. Most regular sized drills don't have capacities listed for self-feed bits though.

What is the shank size? I seen a website sed it was 1/4 in?

Asked by Plumber April 7, 2019

7/16ths hex fits in 1/2 inch drill chuck

Do they have a switchblade kit for this or do you have to buy the switchblades individually?

Asked by FishingChris January 7, 2019

the replacement cutters come in packs of 5 but only for 1 size bit

Will these fit on the super hawg 1/2 in quk chuck?

Asked by Plumber December 9, 2017

Is it in stock?

Asked by Jorge323 May 5, 2017

No, I had to order mine.

What are the sizes of the bits?

Asked by JorgeOfAllTrades August 27, 2015

1-3/8", 1-1/2" 2-1/8" and 2-9/16"

if i have a pro rewards, may i apply this to my transaction

Asked by nrl236 August 24, 2013

Yes you can but it doesn't count towards the paint program

I think this is a great idea from Milwaukee. Being able to change the knife and feed screw will help these bits last longer and require less down time when the blade gets dull. The blades can either dull from use or they can get dull or damaged when they hit a nail or screw. If you're on the job site you can quickly swap out the blade and put in a fresh one and get back to work. Replacement blades are very affordable. Comes with the most common sized self-feed bits plumbers would use for boring holes in framing for pipes whether rough-in on new construction or a remodel project. 1-3/8" bit for supply pipe. It looks like a lot of plumbers are using 1-3/8" holes for all they're supply lines then using plastic pex suspender grommet things (not sure exactly what they're called) in the hole for both pex and copper supply pipes. Get a couple of Milwaukee's Speed Feed Auger bits to pair with this if you want to drill smaller holes for 1/2" and 3/4" copper pipe. 3/4" and 1" respectively. 1-1/2" bit for 1" and 1-1/4" copper pipe as well as 1" PVC. Don't think this bit is as commonly used for plumbers unless they do a lot of copper hydronic heating work or sprinkler systems but it's nice that it's part of the kit for when needed. 2-1/8" bit for 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" PVC waste and vent pipes. 2-9/16" bit for 2" PVC waste and vent pipes. These are kind of like forstner bits in that they shave away the wood instead of drilling out a plug like a hole saw. They're faster to use because of that. No time wasted trying to poke out the plug. They have a self feed tip that pulls the bit into the wood making it very easy to make holes. The bits will fit in a standard chuck or in the quick change chuck in Milwaukee's Super Hawg. Together with the M18 Super Hawg it's a great combination. The M18 Hole Hawg specs say it's not recommended to go above 2" with self-feed bits. Comes in a nice hard case with a 5-1/2" Extension with quick change tip, allen key and a set of replacement blades, feed screws and set screws.

These auger bits make life so much easier! They are extra heavy duty, self feeding which takes most of the work out of drilling holes for pipe. The ability to replace the cutting blade and end screw tip is the best feature ever! Because you will hit a screw or nail and then your not left with a hole saw that is a chunk missing. They cut really clean like your using a hole saw. They come with a extra cutting blade and screw tip for each size. The carry case is extra heavy duty and has room for more cutting blade storage.

These switchblade bits are awesome for fast large diameter holes. They don't require messing around with ejecting the plug like hole saws do, but they do make a pretty big mess by throwing large shavings everywhere. I was able to run these in a heavy duty 18V drill, but something like a hole hawg is probably a good idea if you'll be using them a lot. The quick lock extension is easy to use, with the collar snapping into place as soon as they're pushed together. To unluck, just slide the collar and pull part - you can stack as many extensions as you need if drilling through multiple studs - that will ensure a straight line for whatever pipe you're running. The construction of these is top notch, with replaceable blades and pilot screws. The pilot screws are held in place with a set screw, but there's also a through hole that the set screw sits in so you don't have to worry about them slipping out. One final note - I saw some other reviews lamenting that these didn't work well in a drill press. That's not a shortcoming of the bits, it's by design. The self feed screw advances the bit through the wood automatically so you don't have to push as hard. If you use it in a drill press the screw and the drill press feed will be working against each other, and the workpiece will ultimately get torn up. Get an actual forstner bit if you want to drill large diameter holes in a drill press, not these.

The 5-Piece Plumbers Bit Set by Milwaukee is a great product with many nice features. This bit set is for boring holes in wood for installation of plumbing pipes. There are 4 sizes in this set 1-3/8 in., 1-1/2 in., 2-1/8 in. and 2-9/16 in which match up with standard OD sizes of plumbing pipes. These bits comes with replaceable blades (one set included) and have an aggressive feed screw post that pulls the cutting bit into the hole. This greatly reduces the "pushing" needed to drill a hole. These bit kit comes with a handy hard plastic carrying case. Also included is a 5 1/2 inch extension, the extra blades (one for each bit), 4 extra screw feed bits and a hex wrench to install the replacement parts. Also Milwaukee offers more replacement blades which are available on HD online. This set will last a long time and can always be sharp (with blade replacement) for even the hardest plumbing jobs.
