I used this for my Christmas Cactus and the soil stays wet int he pot for a long time. Is this normal for this? The soil in my first cactus was not this and the soil dries faster than this
Asked by: ladybug1
No the soil should be dry. Does it have good drainage? This soil helps the water run off better and not stay wet

I feel almost all regular potting soil contains too much peat moss and dries out to quickly. I use this for all my plants now because it holds moisture longer. Try it I think you will agree it is fantastic.

Can miracle Gro cactus ,palm and citrus potting mix be used for bonsai tree planting ?
Asked by: WAYNE
Yes it will work with one trade off, you have to water a bit more during growing season but you will end up with a health roots system with little rot due to the very good drainage, that's also a plus for the winter time where you will use less water, faster drying of the soil. I got a braided bonsai tree, and its in cactus soil it loves it, it might be a bit loss at first till the roots take go but deff a good choice.

I am planting small succulent and cactus plants in a patio planter using this potting mix. How often should I water the plants?
Asked by: ArticFox
Would check the instructions for each of your plants separately, but in general a light watering once or twice a week is more than enough. A lot will depend on the climate where you live as well.

I bought 4 bags of MiracleGro cactus mix and it was infested with fungus gnats! Absolutely horrible! I had no idea they were infested until I opened the bag inside (where my succulents are) and released a cloud of fungus gnats into my house. I had several of my favorite succulents die from the gnat infestation. After looking online I realized that many other people have this problem with this brand. If you want your plants to live do not take the risk of receiving a bag infested with fungus gnats. I recommend making your own succulent soil with brands that do not have such a great risk of fungus gnats being present.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stays damp, doesn’t drain well I bought this soil for my succulents and it’s very rich and peat moss-like, and it doesn’t seem to have any of the components other succulent soil has (pumice, sand, etc). It doesn’t drain at all and stays moist and damp. My succulents started rotting so I had to find other soil for them. Really not impressed

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Soil, but Fungus Gnat Issues I have purchased at least 6 bags of the Cactus, Palm & Citrus to plant the various cacti and succulents I've obtained in the last 2 years. The plants do well in this soil, and I have no complaints with it's inherent performance. Instead of giving this 5 stars, I only gave three because more than half of the time I've purchased this product, I have ended up with infestations of fungus gnats. I keep the bags sealed and in a dry place when not using them, and as this is for cacti and succulents, I don't water much or very often. Also, the gnats appear a few days after potting in every case, even when I've potted the plants and held off on watering (after the first round of fungus gnats, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't causing the issue with the watering). In one case, I opened a brand new bag and fungus gnats flew out. I disposed of this bag and purchased another bag from a different store, and ended up having the fungus gnat issue anyway. I'm not sure how much of this is a manufacturer issue, or if it's more of an issue of shipping and storage before being sold by retailers. I've read about this issue from other brands and it seems to be fairly common. That said, I feel like there should be some recourse for the consumer, either in the form of tips on how to get rid of the infestation, products to kill the gnats, or replacement of the products with this issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from problems this year The last two years I used this potting soil and didn’t have any concerns. Worked as advertised. This year I bought a new bag and potted a few things, stored it as usual, and now my bag is full of gnats. Definitely gross and I don’t want to put new plants in my remaining soil and have plant problems. Pretty bummed. My regular yellow bag miracle grow potting soil I purchased this year had mold growing in it after 1 use and storage. I store my bags as I have every year, rolled up the top, on a shelf, in a dry garage. Trying a new brand in the future.

Received a potted Succulent plant as a gift, It of course came in a small bowl and had already pretty much out grew it. Checked with my green thumb neighbor and she suggested we get a potting soil mix made for succulent plants and cactus. From there I knew what to look for and the brand name is what I always look for when repotting plants or starting a garden. One bag fills a 8 quart pot perfectly. To new to say they have grown like weeds, but I have no doubt they will. Highly recommend any Miracle-Gro soil product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Soil Bugs I bought this for my lemon trees and I had these little flying bugs all over the place. I bought three bags and put them in the basement. I started my indoor gardening where I used pods they were fine until I put them in the basement under lights. The next day I found those little bugs on my mew seedlings. I have to throw out the open bag of Miracle Grow I put in the basement. I went on line and saw that I could sprinkle cinnamon on the soil and it will get rid of these little bugs. Wish me luck.

Repotted a plant that was swarming with them... it's still swarming because the new soil was also infected. Sigh. Thank you mosquito dunks.
