I feel almost all regular potting soil contains too much peat moss and dries out to quickly. I use this for all my plants now because it holds moisture longer. Try it I think you will agree it is fantastic.

Can miracle Gro cactus ,palm and citrus potting mix be used for bonsai tree planting ?
Asked by: WAYNE
Yes it will work with one trade off, you have to water a bit more during growing season but you will end up with a health roots system with little rot due to the very good drainage, that's also a plus for the winter time where you will use less water, faster drying of the soil. I got a braided bonsai tree, and its in cactus soil it loves it, it might be a bit loss at first till the roots take go but deff a good choice.

About 1 1/2 years of using an entire bag with my succulents I am still disappointed. I still find it retains too much moisture. It still compacts in the pot, water sits at the surface. I don't water that much and find with a few of the pots that are bone dry down to the bottom, after watering, about 2 days later I find several of my succulents drooping and getting soft at the base. They eventually perk back up, however, it stresses the plants. I will discontinue and find something else.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Way too moisture retentive. This product was purchased because there was an accident involving plants, and they needed repotting. This was not the mix I wanted. Miracle Gro products have left med disappointed with their quality. This was a bind I found myself in, and this is what the store had. I blended this mix 1:1 with perlite. I then added .24 parts granite for some plants, and .50 for others. In others still, I used the perlite, granite, and .25 bark. Ingredients had been rinsed or soaked prior, and they all blended well. After repotting, I watered in. Even with the soil amended this way, the medium remained soppy, all the next day. I had let the pots drain, let them set tilted, and "dropped' the pot to try to get more water out. I am seeing that this mix is going to hold onto water too well for my variety of succulents. It is August. These plant did not need the stress of being repotted, just so they could be potted again, once they have dried. The cooler temps of winter are coming, and this moisture retentive mix will cost me plants. I did not read the ingredients on the bag. The Miracle Grow name for me, means poor amendments. Like the tiny, dust perlite you can buy, and maybe use half of. The rest will be dust and gray rocks. I just needed a cactus mix. This is a cactus, palm, citrus mix that is supposed to be great for succulents. This has way too much peat in it, and if there is sand, it is dust particulate.
