A:  Yes it really is and it is great to start growing some roses this way. Just remember that your roses need room for their roots to grow if you want them to be healthy and to bloom, so when you see they are getting bigger make sure to transplant them .

          by|May 19, 2023

A:  Hi there! thank you for asking! I have done some reasearch and many people have grown roses just fine with this!

              Terrible!!!!
I have used miracle grow for many years. This last year I have bought multiple bags, and it's horrible! The bags are infested with millions of plant gnats and larvae. I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of plants. Will never buy again!!

                  The worst
I purchased 6 large bags of this and it killed all of my plants in the containers. There was NO soil in this mix. I have provided two pictures one with MGPM and the other with another soil. Lost a lot of transplants.

                    None
This has no”soil” properties at all. It’s killed my plants. I had used it for house plants and ended up with a gnat problem. It holds water too long and suffocates the plants. Causing root rot! Give me some dirt. I can’t find any. I’m ripping bags open everywhere and all I can find is ground up trees. We need dirt.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix and appreciate your feedback. Insects could not survive the composting and packing process. However, it is possible for them to enter the bag during shipping and storage. Insects may also come in with the soil of transplanted plants or enter through cracks, crevices, open windows or doors simply looking for a suitable environment. The small flying insects are likely fungus gnats. These insects do not harm humans and do little plant damage (they primarily feed on the fungus found naturally in soil), but can be a nuisance. A possible way to control fungus gnats includes allowing the soil to dry out as much as possible between watering, which will help control the larvae. Also, you can try applying at least 1/2 inch of horticultural sand on top of the soil of potted/container plants; the larvae cannot burrow through the sand and will die. Fungal mold spores, including mushroom-producing fungi, are a natural part of soils. It just takes the right conditions for the spores to develop into a fungus or mold. Our growing media products are not sterilized and may contain microorganisms including fungus. In fact, fungus molds have been scientifically proven to improve the growth of plants by releasing nutrients from the organic material that growing media are typically. Fungus mold only becomes a problem if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth occurs when the soil is too wet. The mold and fungus that grows on soils will not harm plants, is safe for people and pets to be around and will go away with sunlight and air circulation. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-295-6902 if we can further assist.
                        Never buying Miracle-Gro again
I've used nothing but Miracle-Gro for the last 10 years in my containers, fresh potting mix each year. This year though the mix looks like nothing but finely shredded fibers or even cardboard. There's an occasional piece of perlite and a fertilizer pellet, and a few of these lighter-colored fibers stuck together in a 1/2" clump and that's it. There doesn't appear to be any type of compost or anything substantial to support growth. The majority of the bags also smelled like turpentine. I plant 40 containers each summer, using roughly 15 - 2 cu ft bags for them all. I'm very worried now how the plants will do this year and if I did nothing but waste a huge amount of money. Stay away from Miracle-Gro Potting Mix, it's been changed to something unusable.

Switching to another brand after 30 Years
I have been by a Miracle Grow potting soil for over 20 years and never had this issue! Half my seedlings have died because I used the potting soil as shown in the pictures. I guess I just trusted the brand even though I knew it looked different. I am very disappointed. I had put a new layer on top of all my house plants and now I have to go back and remove it and replace it. When I watered it, the dirt molded.

                            Awful
Changed formula, now it's like moldy Peat moss, even smells like mold. Won't be buying this anymore.

                              Formula has changed
I have used this potting soil for as long as I can remember. The formula has clearly changed. I purchased bags from two different retailers in different towns, thinking maybe the first batch was just bagged in error. It no longer contains any soil. It appears to be all peat, sticks and pine mulch. In my photo, the fluffy topping is the new material. In the top right corner of the pot, is the same product I had left over from last season and put in first before adding the new bag. In prior years, the material was mostly dirt, but no longer.

Potting Mix is NOT the Same Anymore!
I have used Miracle Grow Potting Soil since I started gardening over 3 decades ago. I bought 3 bags to start my seeds in this year and found that the potting soil is not the same soil I've bought in prior years (see photo). The new version has no perlite in it. It is very heavy and clumpy. The potting soil is full of a heavy clay type soil with no peat and no perlite. When I squeezed it, it made a hard compact ball. When I watered it, the water just sat on the top of the soil. The water would not soak into the soil, unlike the old bag of Miracle Grow potting soil I had in my shed (see photo of side by side). Potting soil should not do this. It should be light and fluffy. I planted several expensive seed packets already and now I'm concerned that I just ruined them. I'm not sure why the potting soil recipe has changed. It's a cheap version of potting soil yet the price has increased a lot since 2020. What give Miracle Grow? Please bring the old formula back. You're going to ruin everyone's gardens and house plants with the garbage!
