Answer This Question

A:  No, I'm a science and technology teacher and know a little bit about this. I would not use Modge Podge. It is water soluble and will just wash off, and the dissolved glue will not be good for your critters. You really need some sort of underwater rated material that is biologically safe. Home Depot does carry some epoxy based pond liner materials that might work, but I have not played with them. You will really need to study the manufacturer's information to be sure.

A:  It's non-toxic so I think your turtles would be fine. And as long as you let it thoroughly dry (15-20 minutes between coats) it should be fine in your aquarium.

Love to Mod Podge
Mod Podge 16-oz Gloss Decoupage Glue Are you a crafty person? I am. This is a great product for adding a finish to your creations. This is a shinny finish. I made some shopkins with my daughters. See the picutures. One of the creatures is a cheese cake guy and the other is a candy wrapper guy. My girls loved it. I used both the shinny finish and matte finish on these creatures. The great thing about Mod Podge is it can be a glue or a sealer. You can see the shine well in the cheese cake.

An excellent glue for crafts
My wife is the main user of Mod Podge for her crafts and she swears by it. She says it's "an oldie but a goodie". Mod Podge is a good glue and a great sealer. It is non-toxic so it can be used on your kids projects without any risk. It also dries quickly. An excellent glue/sealer for all your crafts.

Fun easy to use product
This was a really easy product to use which kept the frustration factor of the product use low and the fun factor quite high. The instructions left me with some questions about how to use the product so I did some research on the internet. There were a number of good videos on YouTube demonstrating its use. I used Mod Podge to update a telephone stand that I picked up at a garage sale. The product was made from a cheap particle board with a fake wood venier finish. It had some water damage which I sanded down. Initially I was going to paint the piece. Then I decided to see if the item could be updated using a different method. This product did the trick. After sanding the piece I spray painted the areas that were not flat surfaces. I'm sure there were ways to do the curvy bits but I didn't want to tackle that for this project - used exclusively on flat surfaces. I made patterns of the areas that I wanted to cover and cut them from fabric. The instructions recommend that you paint the medium on with a brush. As I had large surfaces I used a paint tray and a small foam roller. First apply a layer of the Mod Podge to the entire surface you want to cover. The layer should be the equivalent of a first layer of paint - good even coverage. Place your paper/picture/fabric over the applied layer of Mod Podge and align and smooth the surface, flattening out any wrinkles or bubbles, making sure that all of the edges connect with the surface. The instructions show that you immediately apply another layer of Mod Podge over the placed paper/picture/fabric. One YouTube video suggested that you wait until the applied material dry first to avoid the edges from lifting. I did this and was pleased at the results. I did have to go back during the drying process and mash down a few edges I had missed. Once that was dry, I then applied the top layer over the fabric. The original Mod Podge is designed to be used with paper. I didn't realize this until after I purchased the product. I learned that Mod Podge has a fabric specific product. However, I decided to go ahead and use the original. At first I was concerned as the next layer was milky and stayed that way for a good bit during the drying process. However, once it was fully dried (about 30 minutes) it was a clear glossy finish. I let this sit for a day (I didn't have time to work on the project anymore that day) and then applied a second coat. This used the remainder of the bottle. From the 16 oz. bottle I had enough to make three passes on this project.

Mod Podge Not Just For Craft Or Art Projects
Seems that Mod Podge has been around forever but there are lots of uses for this other than art or craft projects. Have you ever needed to make a small batch of gloss touch up paint and only had flat wall paint? Use a little of gloss Mod Podge in the paint and you have semi-gloss. Need a small amount of tile grout and want it stronger than standard, use about 50% Mod Podge in the water and you have super strong grout that won't crack as easy or chip out. Need to tack down a corner of curled wall paper, use a bit of Mod Podge and you have a quick permanent fix that will stay up but it will come off with a little steam when you are ready to re-paper the wall. Or how about cracks that keep coming back in sheet rock or wall plaster. Mix 75% Mod Podge 25% water into your dry patching mud and your cracks won't come back as fast if ever. Even if you're using it for very unique crafts like my wife's decorated Goose and Rhea eggs to get a very glossy top coat. The uses are endless really endless.

Good stuff
Having used regular glue in the past, doing a craft with Modge podge was a welcome change. First of all you only need the smallest amount to complete your work, which makes it a great value. It also goes on in a very smooth layer, and dries quickly. It's white and dries clear. I made seasonal blocks that can be used all year long, and the Modge Podge let me easily adhere the decorative paper to the wood. I applied the glue using a sponge brush. That method worked well, with no excess spillage. 2 months later, there is no peeling, and the glue is holding well. I would recommend this glue over your standard glue or glue stick.
