Product Overview

Mosquito Bits is a highly selective microbial insecticide (BTI) effective against mosquitoes in a variety of habitats. Kills the larvae of mosquitoes that transmit West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, Chikungunya, Encephalitis, Malaria, and Dengue Fever. Spread over the surface of water to release the biological mosquito larvicide. This larvicide gradually settles in the water where it is eaten by mosquito larvae growing there. The BITS will give a quick kill of existing mosquito larvae within 24 hours. Re-apply every 7 to 14 days for maximum control. Mosquito Bits are approved for application to areas that contain aquatic life, fish and plants. BITS may also be applied to areas used by or in contact with humans, animals, horses, livestock, pets, birds or wildlife. Apply to standing water found near the home such as water gardens, tree holes, stock tanks, animal watering troughs, rain barrels, bird baths, roof gutters, etc. Perfect for areas where standing water cannot easily be controlled such as fallen leaves, swampy areas, and vehicle tracks in turf. Sprinkle over bromeliads, pitcher plants, and other areas where small amounts of water turn into mosquito breeding grounds. Harmless to plants, pets, beneficial insects, honeybees, fish or wildlife. Mosquito Bits are also approved and labeled as a biological control for fungus gnat larvae in planters and soils. Kills fungus gnat larvae in soil without synthetic toxins.

These work but I find you need to use a lot of them and replace them every week or so. I used these this past summer to make mosquito traps. I place a bunch in plastic cups, filled them with water then put them around the yard. The bits certainly killed a lot of larvae but about every other week I had to replace it as the chemical seemed to wear off. I also found I needed a lot of them for it to work well. These can also be placed in gutters and pots. They are like little rocks and eventually sink under water.

Mosquito Bits work! We have zero mosquito larvae in the saucers of the two planters that flank our garage door (see photo of saucer full of water, debris, bits, and no larvae). Before we starting using the bits, and the dunks made by the same company, those pots were a prime breeding ground for mosquitoes. In addition to saucers, we add bits to indentations in rocks, trees, plastic faux rocks covering utility items, almost anything that could collect some water. We do not use them in the saucers of pots where herbs and veggies are grown. The bits work so well that we have started the process of inoculating the corrugated pipes that run off of our house gutters. We are adding bits to the gutters, up at the roof level, to have them drain through the down spouts and into the corrugated pipes. Where the roof level is too high to reach with a ladder, we are adding the bits where the downspout meets the corrugated pipe. We know that the mosquitoes love those corrugated pipes, and the bits will put a stop to that.

This is an amazing product! I have had it for two months. I used it in my tadpole pond. It was exactly what I was looking for - a non-chemical method of control. It eliminated the mosquito larvae within 24 hrs without harming my tadpoles!

      Works Very Well
I have personally used this product since 2012. I live in an apartment complex that has a park on one side and a small creek on the other. I have a lot of plants of various sizes (<50). I use between 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon of Mosquito Bits in each pots saucer to prevent mosquitoes from reproducing. It works every time, all the time. I highly recommended this product to all my friends and landscape design clients.

                Great for Fungus Gnat Control
Use one tablespoon Mosquito Bits in 4 cups of water to kill fungus gnat eggs in houseplants. Soak the Bits in water for 30 minutes, and dispose of the Bits (they can mold in soil). Water plants with the treated water. Best to use with sticky fly traps and beneficial nematodes to kill fungus gnats in all stages of their growth lifecycle. Then follow up watering with the Bits treated water until there are no more gnats seen on the fly traps.

At first I didn't see a difference but I went to an outdoor party 5 mins away from my house and the amount of mosquitos was exaggerating! I can definitely say this stuff works. We used see mosquitos on our car windows when we would arrive, so we made a run inside our house. Now we can calmly be outside.

We have used this product for a few years and it works in keeping the mosquitoes to a much lower number. Nothing ever gets rid of all of them, so minimizing the numbers helps tremendously. I would recommend this product.

I put about a tablespoon in a large trough I use to water the deer on my property. It always has dozens of mosquito larvae swimming around in it. Next day I went to check it and I didn’t see one swimming around. It killed them all. Would highly recommend.

I have a retention pond near my house and mosquitos are a huge problem. This product really made a difference. I was able to sit outside on the patio without one mosquito bit and I am a mosquito magnet. They love me. I had to reapply in 4 weeks. My suggestion is do not use the product sparely.

For the right application this stuff is amazing!
Full disclosure, I have not used it outside for mosquitos or anything else. If you have house plants, though, and you've been dealing with those annoying gnats that seem to come as an added feature of potting soil these days, this stuff is a Godsend. Those bugs have been driving us absolutely insane for years. We have gotten rid of most houseplants and replaced them multiple times thinking we could get rid of the bugs that way. No more! We did the "tea" mixture with this stuff and then just sprinkled some in the soil of our houseplants and it took maybe a week before the problem was solved, which is more quickly than the label predicts. I'm sure some people haven't had the same luck, but I wish I had discovered this stuff a long, long time ago. From now on I think I'll just mix it into my potting soil before I ever even plant anything to bring inside. If it works even close to as well for mosquitos as it did for our indoor gnats, it is WELL worth giving it a try.

I usually use the dunks (which are great also), but with so much rain there's just puddles everywhere. The bits give you more spread ability and are easy to use. I can't control skeeters everywhere, but it does help keep the population down in your personal space.
