Product Overview

Mosquito Bits is a highly selective microbial insecticide (BTI) effective against mosquitoes in a variety of habitats. Kills the larvae of mosquitoes that transmit West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, Chikungunya, Encephalitis, Malaria, and Dengue Fever. Spread over the surface of water to release the biological mosquito larvicide. This larvicide gradually settles in the water where it is eaten by mosquito larvae growing there. The BITS will give a quick kill of existing mosquito larvae within 24 hours. Re-apply every 7 to 14 days for maximum control. Mosquito Bits are approved for application to areas that contain aquatic life, fish and plants. BITS may also be applied to areas used by or in contact with humans, animals, horses, livestock, pets, birds or wildlife. Apply to standing water found near the home such as water gardens, tree holes, stock tanks, animal watering troughs, rain barrels, bird baths, roof gutters, etc. Perfect for areas where standing water cannot easily be controlled such as fallen leaves, swampy areas, and vehicle tracks in turf. Sprinkle over bromeliads, pitcher plants, and other areas where small amounts of water turn into mosquito breeding grounds. Harmless to plants, pets, beneficial insects, honeybees, fish or wildlife. Mosquito Bits are also approved and labeled as a biological control for fungus gnat larvae in planters and soils. Kills fungus gnat larvae in soil without synthetic toxins.

You can use it in the soil, but it's not recommend, how it works is it infects the larva and uses it to reproduce, condition would have to be ideal for the spawn to survive effectively . Other options reapply when it rains. There are soil blends of nemitodes that can do the trick. I don't know if this strain is one of them

I would not use this for water that will be consumed by a dog. The warning labels indicate that it should not be consumed by humans, and I would apply that logic to pets as well.

No. Any bacterial in water used to grow plants can get inside the plants, and this is not safe for human consumption.

These work but I find you need to use a lot of them and replace them every week or so. I used these this past summer to make mosquito traps. I place a bunch in plastic cups, filled them with water then put them around the yard. The bits certainly killed a lot of larvae but about every other week I had to replace it as the chemical seemed to wear off. I also found I needed a lot of them for it to work well. These can also be placed in gutters and pots. They are like little rocks and eventually sink under water.

Mosquito Bits work! We have zero mosquito larvae in the saucers of the two planters that flank our garage door (see photo of saucer full of water, debris, bits, and no larvae). Before we starting using the bits, and the dunks made by the same company, those pots were a prime breeding ground for mosquitoes. In addition to saucers, we add bits to indentations in rocks, trees, plastic faux rocks covering utility items, almost anything that could collect some water. We do not use them in the saucers of pots where herbs and veggies are grown. The bits work so well that we have started the process of inoculating the corrugated pipes that run off of our house gutters. We are adding bits to the gutters, up at the roof level, to have them drain through the down spouts and into the corrugated pipes. Where the roof level is too high to reach with a ladder, we are adding the bits where the downspout meets the corrugated pipe. We know that the mosquitoes love those corrugated pipes, and the bits will put a stop to that.

This is an amazing product! I have had it for two months. I used it in my tadpole pond. It was exactly what I was looking for - a non-chemical method of control. It eliminated the mosquito larvae within 24 hrs without harming my tadpoles!

I have personally used this product since 2012. I live in an apartment complex that has a park on one side and a small creek on the other. I have a lot of plants of various sizes (<50). I use between 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon of Mosquito Bits in each pots saucer to prevent mosquitoes from reproducing. It works every time, all the time. I highly recommended this product to all my friends and landscape design clients.
