Questions & Answers

Can I use this to charge my 12V deep Cycle battery for my boat trolling motor?

Asked by: Tim
Yes, it would work perfectly for that job of maintaining your deep cycle battery. But if you are going to use the boat every day it would be awfully slow and would not charge to 100% over a one-night time span . its maxed charge in full sun is 8 amps

Can two kits be safely used at the same time to charge two batteries connected in series? This issue has yet to be addressed correctly by anyone. No one has asked this question properly.
Asked by: Nemo
This is a question that has been asked in many ways, yet has not been clearly and adequately answered. If you connect one 12V charger to each 12V battery connected to a bank of series-connected 12V batteries, unless each charger is grounded or connected to the other in some way, each battery is independently charged by its respective charger, no matter that there are more than one batteries connected together in series while charging. If Nature Power knows of a reason why this will not work with their products, please have one of your engineers (I am one) tell us exactly why this will not work properly. I have a 24V battery backup system, powered by two 12 volt 120AH gel cells, connected in series. I have charged these two 12V batteries connected in this way with both one and two independent 25 amp 120V solid state chargers connected to each 12v battery. Before I bought the second charger, in the beginning, I used one charger to charge each 12V battery independently, in sequence - the first battery first, then the second battery afterwards. The first battery charger is connected to the first ground and to the center tap of the two batteries, the second to the center tap and the positive terminal of the second battery, in that order. To reduce the charge time I bought a second 25 amp charger and connected it to the second battery. This system works just fine and solved my time-limited recharge needs. These two chargers' outputs were 25 amps each at 12 volts, while the battery backup output was about 8 amps at 24 volts. In this way my system would recover (manually) in less than 8 hours, while the internal charger in the backup device could and sometimes would take over a day to decently charge these batteries. If you are wondering, I did this to be able to recharge the 24V bank overnight. With this system, I have a remote, silent, overnight-rechargeable, stabilized, filtered, pure sine wave source of 120V power.
