Product Details

For excess surface water around pools and spas, concrete and paver patios, and walkways, use the Micro Channel Drain, part of the NDS Profile Channel series, to drain light flows of runoff before it lingers and grows slippery mildew, causes deck stains, erodes property, and other costly structural damage. Here's how it works. Channel drains, also known as trench drains, are long, narrow drains that capture water from surrounding surfaces. As part of a complete drainage system, it directs water to drain pipe for proper release downstream-to discharge with a pop-up emitter, or to percolate into the ground with a dry well or infiltration trench. Micro Channel Drain & grate come as one integrated part for an easy install. Made of polyvinyl chloride ; connect with a coupling. The modular design makes it easy to add turns with 45º and 90º elbows; add bottom, side, & end outlets. For maintenance, add Micro Channel Cleanouts along the length of the drain. Elbows, tees, outlets, & cleanouts are sold separately so you can design your system as needed. Find the best channel drain or trench drain system for your needs with the NDS Channel Drain Selector tool at ndspro.com/choose-the-right-channel-drain.html. Founded in 1972, NDS is the leader in stormwater management solutions, the preferred choice of professionals, and the largest supplier of channel drains in North America. Q:Tubing

Answer This Question

A:  I installed my channel drain along the concrete and attached it into a circular drain pipe which I buried. So long as water flows in the circular pipe, you shouldn't have any problem.

A:  Returned - it was too narrow. I need 1 1/2 " wide. Not the fault of product

Q:Can I use this to replace existing channel drain installed in concrete?

Answer This Question

A:  NDS recommends installing channel drains into new concrete so that the concrete adheres to the channel. This will ensure that water will not be able to run down the sides and work its way below the channel.

A:  If you can remove the existing channel drain and place the new one in, it should work.

    A:  Yes

Micro drain is cheap and easy to cut plastic/pvc but for lengths longer than 5 ft you'll need to use a coupling that is poorly conceived. It's an insert coupling. I tried caulking adhesive to keep it fixed but the caulking didn't stick so I used silicone glue and that was a little better but the design makes it pretty much impossible to keep it fixed permanently in place since the stress on the coupling will always bend loose when you move it. There is no way the joint between two pieces will be totally water proof so this has to be buried, not overhead on a deck, and expect the area beneath each joint to be damp. The biggest problem with the coupling is that it becomes an obstruction in the water flow. Unlike a bell housing in PVC pipe connections which makes it directional and eliminates obstructions, this coupling will stop any dirt debris in the channel drain and it will collect it there at the coupling. This is unavoidable. Add three of these couplings and any debris will never make it to the opposite end of the drain and the flow will be inhibited. These channel drain pieces should have a bell end/straight end to eliminate the coupling and make them directional like PVC pipe. The channel drain will work because it's 3'' deep, but these issues are red flags that in any area that requires 100% drainage this isn't the right choice. My project was simply moving water from a slab in front of a door where the slab had settled in the wrong direction. It works for that and it was probably the most inexpensive solution in my case so I'm satisfied. I set the channel drain in basic cement but would recommend Quickrete because it has no aggregate. The big stones in basic bags of cement mix make it difficult to settle the drain to ensure it's slightly sloped in the direction I wanted the water to run. Quickrete is smooth and would allow a person to set the drain into wet cement more easily with no rock aggregate. Also, the slope to the top of the channel drain is hard to achieve with cement containing aggregate. You want a smooth transition exactly to the top of the drain so water will not pool next to the top or find a way down the side or around the drain. I failed to get this smooth transition in places so will have to use cement caulking to improve the transition.
