Small and mighty, the 3 in. Round Drain Grate drains light flows of stormwater from small lawns, landscaped areas, patios, and walkways to drain pipe. Leaves and debris are blocked from entering the drain pipe to prevent it from clogging and backing up. The 3 in. round drain grate, also known as a drain cover, has an open surface area of 2.6 sq. in. and a flow rate of 8 GPM. Connect to 3 in. sewer and drain pipe & fittings, 3 in. single-wall corrugated pipe, and 3 in. triple-wall pipe for a soil-tight fit. The pipe grate is ADA Compliant and heel-proof. Built to stand up to the elements, it's made of polyethylene, a type of plastic, using a combination of virgin and recycled content treated with UV inhibitors to prevent fading and cracking from the sun. As part of a complete drainage system, the grate blocks leaves and debris as it drains water entering drain pipes. The pipes carry the water to a discharge point downstream such as a pop-up emitter, or to percolate into the ground with a dry well or infiltration trench. Q:Can this drain be used in a planter with gravel, or does one use an atrium grate?

A:  This would work fine in a planter with gravel. Atrium grates are better installed in flower or planter beds with mulch.

            A:  NDS company needs to talk to people who install storm water drain pipes in California backyards. The fact that there is no Grate that fits drain pipes that are installed in California backyards needs to be addressed. Nobody will install a coupling on top of vertical drain pipe to make the Grate fit. Home Depot does not sell 3" SDR 35 pipe. We need a Grate that fits the drain pipes that are being sold at Home Depot.

            A:  The grate will only fit 3" SDR 35 pipe and 3" fittings (a coupling or elbow for example).
