About This Product

Dry out saturated, wet, & spongy soil with EZ Drain Gravel-Free French Drain System, an underground drainage solution that captures and redirects high groundwater around your house and yard. Unlike traditional French drain pipe and gravel systems which require backbreaking work of hauling and shoveling large amounts of rock and gravel to fill the trench, EZ Drain Gravel-Free French Drain System can be installed in half the time and is made with 100% recycled material. No hard, heavy lifting is required. Uniquely engineered, this gravel-less bundle features increased void space and has a 30% better flow rate than gravel and pipe systems. High groundwater affects the usability of your property and can cause flooding and costly damage to your foundation, retaining walls, and landscape. EZ Drain French Drain captures and removes adjacent groundwater, sending it to a discharge point downstream. EZ Drain French Drain installation is quicker and easier than traditional French Drains, with up to 50% in labor savings. Just dig a trench, connect and lay EZ Drain French Drain bundles in the trench, then connect to downstream piping and backfill with soil. Use our free drainage calculators, Home Drainage Center, and NDS Stormwater Drainage mobile app to find the best solution for your specific drainage problem. NDS, founded in 1972, is the preferred choice of professionals and offers proven products, tools, and expert support to help you get the job done right.

Highlights

  • Useful in solving surface and subsurface drainage problems for lawns and plant beds, building foundations and basements, retaining walls and raised planters, and sports fields
  • Works as an infiltration system to detain water captured from upstream sources such as a downspout, and slowly release it into the surrounding soil
  • Connect to same size EZ Drain French Drain or 4 in. Single-Wall Corrugated Drain Pipe with Internal Coupling or 4 in. Sewer and Drain Pipe with Pipe Adapter
  • With a 1% slope, each bundle has a flow rate of 81 GPM and storage volume of up to 6 gallons
  • Strong structural integrity resists compaction and supports pedestrian traffic and lawn tractors when properly installed
  • Drainage bundle comes preassembled with 4 in. slotted corrugated drain pipe, lightweight engineered aggregate all encased in a 30-sieve white geotextile mesh fabric and ready to install
  • Flexible, 8 in. diameter, 5 ft. bundle bends around corners and straightaways, and is easy to manipulate
  • Patented Poly-Rock is uniquely engineered with "flow channels" to increase void space, improve water flow rates by 30%, and provide greater storage capacity compared to gravel systems
  • The EZ Drain French Drain System works in conjunction with other NDS products such as Catch Basin Drains, Flo-Well Dry Wells, Channel Drains, Trench Drains, and Pop-Up Drainage Emitters as part of a complete stormwater drainage system
  • Ready-to-install design is a great back saver-no gravel needed, and installs in half the time of traditional French Drain systems
  • Bundles can be cut to size (see installation guide on NDSPro.com); multiple bundles can be connected together at the pipe ends with internal couplings . Recommend install with a minimum 1% slope for positive drainage
  • Includes one bundle; bundle is 8 in. dia. X 5 ft. long and contains a 4 in. slotted corrugated pipe surrounded by Poly-Rock, all encased in a white geotextile mesh sleeve
  • Single-wall corrugated slotted center drain pipe is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) using a combination of virgin and recycled content; mesh made of polyethylene geotextile. Poly-Rock made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) using 100% recycled content.
  • Use with a catch basin or low-profile adapter to capture stormwater runoff from the surface; use basin or low-profile adapter with a drain grate on top to block debris from entering and clogging your drainage system
  • Use with a Flo-Well Dry Well System to detain excess water and slowly release it into the ground. Use with a Pop-Up Drainage Emitter to discharge collected water at a point of release downstream
  • Onsite stormwater management protects the watershed downstream, and limits excess runoff which can lead to negative impacts such as erosion, pollution, and flooding
  • NDS, founded in 1972, is the preferred choice of professionals and the leader in stormwater management with proven products, tools, and support to help you get the job done right

Can I lay sod as the top layer over the drain or do I need to have stone/gravel for the water to effectively reach the drain?
        ByMar 10, 2026
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Yes, sod can be placed over the product at finished grade, but please remember the water has to drain into the system so this will slow down the process a bit depending on how much soil and rock you place above the system. The system should be at 4-6" below finished grade at min.

Could this work to help with ponding water on a sand volleyball court? Will the geotextile not let sand through?
          ByFeb 27, 2026
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

This will depend on how fine the sand is, but will drain water. This will also depend on if the soils under the sand are conducive for drainage as well.

im really really trying to avoid buying rock its very expensive. i need drainage near my foundation. there is clay soil. i do plan to get big staples to hold it to the ground but i keep hearing i still need gravel around it
            ByFeb 11, 2026
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Yes, this is true for Clay soil applications. You will want to dig your trench and line the trench with a good filter fabric, place the Ez-drain at the bottom of the trench and if needed "aggregate only bundles" above the Ez-drain and be 18" from surface. Bury it with a good permeable soil or rock. Please see the EZ-Drain installation manual from the NDS website and let us know if you should have any further questions.

                  Happy with this product
I built a 120 foot long wooden retaining wall and needed to put in a French drain. I did about 30 feet with gravel and it was very labor intensive and a nightmare that took days. When I found this product, I added it to the remaining wall and could not be happier. It took me 30 minutes to do. I fit the drains in my Tesla. This is hands down way better than using gravel. Also uses recycled material and has less environmental impact than gravel. So far it’s been working great!!

Came as advertized and delivery was simple and installation easy. Just add quick connects to connect each section and drop in trench. Attachment to drain boxes was a bit more involved as outlets from box themselves didn’t have quick connectors and so had to slip on and silicone adhesive inside and around outside lip of pipe diameter. Hope that and dirt backfill around it all will keep in place but as not under pressure or anything expect that should survive as the it’s the weakness point found on assembly. Otherwise sections just snapped in place depending on connector chosen. Did 70 ft of drain in maybe 30’mins once trench was dug and agree manual gravel plus landscape barrier and then gravel and backfill would have been a bit cheaper but much more involved labor wise and time consuming and there is a cost to that also! Overall saved about $500 on quoted price for contractor doing same with non prefab pipe and gravel method. We’ll see how first rainfall and heavy rain goes!

                    Damaged
It arrived with holes in the fabric and the beads falling out. It was also covered in bird poo. I didn’t have time to replace, so had to use.

                      It Floats!
It was not until I had installed this that I had realized one of the major problems with this product. It floats! I dug the trench which has to be pretty big to fit the entire pipe in. And then covered it with about 8 inches of dirt. After a big rain it then then floated to the top. The French drain on the other side of my house is conventional with rock and corrugated pipe I never thought that having all the flotation from the Styrofoam peanuts would result in such buoyancy. So if you do install it make sure you put a layer of rock or heavy dirt to keep it from surfacing. And bury it deep!

                            Great product, poor implementation
I bought this on the day before yesterday. On yesterday, after digging the trench and preparing to close up my system I realized that I needed special End Caps. The end caps sitting next to it on the shelf didn't work. However, searching ALL of my local stores I found out that no one carries them. In one store, they had a hundred feet of tubes but no caps. Nonsense!

Great product, but a little pricey. I had done an over 100 ft. French Drain with the "traditional method" using fabric, 3/4" stone, the corrugated slotted pipe, more stone, and then make the "burrito wrap" with the fabric. The "traditional method" works GREAT, but it IS a lot of work. I needed to add a little over 20 ft. from my neighbors downspouts to resolve the remaining drainage issues between our houses. I went the "easy route" and just bit the bullet on the price for this 20 ft. section. EZ-Drain IS convenient, very lightweight, easy to install. It IS, however, pricey at $50 per 10 ft. length. :( I also didn't realize till I got home that I had picked up a defective EZ-Drain 10 ft. length. It had a tear in the geotextile mesh fabric "sock", and had lost about a foot of the Poly-Rock™ by the time I got home. So, inspect the product before you leave the store.
