Answer

Thank you for your inquiry on the NIBCO 1-1/2 in. PVC DWV Trap Adapter. No, this will not fit into a 2 1/6" hole. The outside dimension of the compression nut is 2.16" and there are also raised portions of the nut. If you have additional questions, you can reach a NIBCO Technical Services Advisor, M-F 8am - 6pm EST, by phone at (888) 446-4226.

should teflon be used on the threads?

Asked by ng February 8, 2019

Answers

No, teflon tape is neither required nor desired. The threads on slip-joint trap adapters do NOT create the seal. Slip-joint trap adapters have a compression ring at the slip-joint. When you tighten the threaded ring on the trap adapter, the compression ring is squeezed tight against the tailpiece of your P-trap; this compression ring is what creates the watertight seal. Adding teflon tape to the threads of a trap adapter will only make it more difficult to tighten the threaded ring enough to fully compress the sealing compression ring. In other words, you're more likely to have a leak if you add teflon tape to the threads of this adapter. I'm surprised Nibco didn't explain this in their reply.

This question doesn't match this product. Try searching for a "Fernco" coupling.

Do you need a compression gasket with this?

I wondered the same thing. No, you don't. It's hollow under that lip and tightening it makes the ring smaller. Very nice design. Looking at the other end, make sure whether you need an innie or an outie.(m/f) This one is an innie. They are so inexpensive you might get both in case you need to change your plan on the fly.

This fits a 2" slip connection on one end, but where can you get 2" tubular tubing that fits into the other end? Also, other 2" tubular fittings?

THDCustomerSupport is wrong, Chaim is wrong. AngryGordon is Correct. THD does not have a 2" to 1 1/2". This adapter fits 2" PVC on the slip side, and the other side fits NOTHING THD carries. A 1 1/2" tubular is way too small, a 1 1/2" PVC schedule 40 is way too small, a 2" PVC is way too big. It could only fit what one would believe to be 2" tubular, but that does not seem to exist. THD Associates in Pluming (the 3 I talked to that had been there for years, said they don't know any use for this item, they don't know any pipe that fits the compression side, they are stumped as to why it exist. I then went to a commercial plumbing store, and showed them this, they had no idea why it exists either.

Nibco trap adapter/male adapter for gluing into a fitting hub. Comes with an 1-1/2" molded slip nut. Ideal for pedestal sinks or any exposed plumbing where the hub is close to the wall edge and you are using a decorative metal trap. If you use a much easier to install 1-1/4" trap you will need to obtain an 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" molded nut or bushing with metal nut . Also, if you use them this is good for cheap plastic bagged traps under sinks as well.

I was replacing a trailer shower drain and it was a 1.5 inch drainpipe. So I go buy 1.5 inch PVC. I was amazed that they didn't begin to match up. Aggravated as all heck,I got a ruler and measured diameters. PVC was 1.5 in. inside diameter, drainpipe was 1.5 O.D. So an hour of googling lead me to this device. Wasn't available in my store but was able to order it ship-to-store free. This is a great piece of hardware and connected everything together nice and tight. No rubber washers needed, the "lip" is hollow, flexible and somewhat soft. Tightening it down makes the hole smaller making a nice tight connection to the drainpipe. You learn something new everyday.
