Hey there! It really depends on the extent of the damage. Aqua Seal is a great option for minor scratches and small surface repairs, but we wouldn’t recommend it for more extensive damage or structural repairs on a surfboard. Best of luck!

            This tape can be painted. For the best results, clean the surface of the tape with a mild detergent and allow it to dry completely. Then, lightly sand the surface to create better adhesion for the paint. Use a high-quality, exterior-grade acrylic latex paint or a paint specifically designed for metal surfaces.

                I need to fix a hole in my forced hot air duct. Someone said it looks like a claw hammer was put through it. Would this seal up this type of hole without any other intervention? it's in an older mobile home if that matters

                  After removing 30-YO tape on metal duct, there is super-dried residue left behind. For this tape, can I leave it there, or is it required that I remove it (I hope not!)? Second, is this tape suitable to seal the edges of a fabricated metal box?

                    easy to apply, airtight seal, good value
                    I bought this by mistake getting my home ready for the big freeze we had coming with historic low temperatures predicted. I thought I picked up a roll of regular duct tape, but when I got home I realized I bought a $30 roll of tape... but I was in a hurry and went ahead and used it and was glad that I did. It seals really well, better than regular aluminum duct tape. I like the permanent butyl mastic adhesive... be careful putting it on, because its hard to get back off once it makes contact!

                      Sticks Well and Looks Like New!
                      I decided to use the Foil Mastic Butly Tape instead of the Vent Sealant that comes in a tube and I am Very Impressed on how well it sticks after cleaning my old drafty floor heater duct vents. I recommend this product and I so does my friend who is a carpenter by trade.

                        You know that saying you get what you pay for? It isn’t always true. This is difficult to use, expensive and frustrating. I regret spending $26 hard earned dollars when a five dollar roll of duct tape is ten times faster and just as good. Have fun trying to expose the adhesive backing. It’s impossible to get off. I would return it if I could.

                          Used for ill-fitting duct vents
                          I used this table to seal around the ill-fitting ducts in my 20 year-old home. I scrubbed the wood sub-floor with water and detergent and also cleaned inside the metal vents with acetone. The tape was easy to apply and mold around the corners. As others have said it is hard to sepatate the tape from the backing. I therefore started it once and just peeled back as far as length of tape needed. As the pieces I needed were quite short this was easy to handle.

                            The Nashua Foilmastic Sealant Tape, although expensive, is a great product. I am currently working on sealing the HVAC ducting that runs throughout the crawlspace, branching out from the distribution plenum. None of the ductwork was ever sealed and I am guessing that I was possibly losing 30-50% of the heater output (judging by how warm the crawlspace was during the middle of the winter). I plan to brush or wipe mastic sealant on the joints of the adjustable elbows, but am using the Nashua FoilMastic Sealant Tape on the straight runs and especially where the ducting attaches at the distribution plenum. I will also be sealing the cold air return runs to see if we can cut down on the dust, vapors and whatever else is blown back up into the living spaces when the heater is operating. The Sealant Tape is fairly easy to use and, because it is somewhat flexible, lays down along curved surfaces fairly well. Be sure to clean the ducting before applying the tape and then smooth and secure the tape fully with a small artist's squeegee. If used correctly the squeegee will easily press out most wrinkles. About the only difficulty for me was separating the backing from the tape, but that probably has more to do with bad eyesight and limited space to work in than anything. Using a sharp knife instead of a fingernail helped a lot. Other than that, I am very impressed with the Nashua Foilmastic Sealant Tape. By the way, Home Depot had the best price of any online reseller or local hardware store. So far, with only the distribution connections fully sealed, I can feel--and hear--a huge difference in the output. The furnace is cycling less often and it runs for a shorter period of time to heat up the living spaces. It is much quieter, especially in the living space near the furnace. I can't wait to see the results after all the ducting runs are fully sealed and insulated.

                            I have done a bunch of things around my home to make it more energy efficient. To date, I've installed all new windows and sealed all of the doors, I've even placed child proof plastic prongs in each of the outlets along the outside walls of my home to stop air leaks. So, when I saw the 1.89 in. x 33.9 yd. Foil Mastic Sealant Tape available, I grabbed it immediately. I had installed a new more energy efficient central A/C system several years back, and I did seal the ducts in my basement with both foil tape and mastic, however, there are still obvious air leaks. This 1.89 in. x 33.9 yd. Foil Mastic Sealant Tape will take care of that.

                            Nashua’s Foil Mastic Sealant Tape is tough, strong, and really sticks and seals! The ductwork in my unfinished basement leaked hot air, wasting energy and money, so I set up to seal the seams. There are an assortment of products to seal your ductwork, but if you need a tough tape that will stand up to temperature and vibration, Nashua’s 1.89 in. x 33.9 yd. Foil Mastic Sealant Tape (Model # 1461664) is great! Regular “duct tape” is typically a sticky mess that doesn’t seal well, and degrades. Thin foil tape works but tears easily. Nashua’s foil mastic sealant tape is tougher, stronger, and feels like it’s going to make a permanent seal, even if the ductwork flexes. It’s “peel and stick”, so it’s easy to measure and cut to length. Then carefully peel off the backing (the blue plastic in the pictures) and apply to the ductwork seams. Position it carefully - once it’s pressed in place it can’t be removed easily! Hints for a good result: - Clean the work surface - this goes for any tape - nothing sticks well to dust - Use scissors to cut the tape - you *can* tear it, but it leaves a ragged edge that makes it difficult to remove the backing - Press in place solidly - the thickness really seals well, but it needs a firm hand to help it conform to the surface Not inexpensive, but worth it for a good result that should last. Note: We received this item free from Home Depot’s “Seeds” program. Home Depot only asked that we provide an honest review.

                            If you have ever worked with this type of tape you will know it's a little trickey. The tape is very sticky and if you let is curl back and touch its self it maybe stuck permanently. Having said that the tape works very well at sealing connections in duct work or at attaching foil backed insulation around ridged duct work. I have used it in both applications and found out that it works very well. And the plus is that in two years it will still be holding and not dry out like "duck tape" tends to do. I have included a photo of the duct above my vent hood over our range connected and sealed with the foil tape.

                            Not all duct tape is approved by code for use on ducts. In fact, most of it is not. But this is the good stuff. Meets UL181 specs for use on sheet metal and listed Class 1 flexible ducts (most of the UL listed plastic-type duct). This is a foil-type tape that meets the specs for all pressures and velocities of ducts and makes a very tight and permanent seal. Your building inspector will like it. If you have ever done any remodeling work, you may have run into older ducts sealed with cloth-type duct tapes that were not UL listed. After a decade or so, these tapes often turn brittle and the adhesive turns to dust. This is disaster for a ventilation system that needs to be sealed tight to make sure that there is no waste and leakage in heated or cooled air. After drywall is installed, it is nearly impossible to repair this type of problem without huge cost. Even if you don’t have a forced-air duct system in your building, the construction crew often installs ducts for clothes dryers, bath fans and kitchen range hood exhaust ducts, and this is the tape to use to insure that there is no leakage. Clothes dryer kitchen exhaust ducts and cannot be secured with screws (by code), so a strong tape that can withstand heat and moisture is your best choice, and this is a good one. Better yet, it is made in USA. Take your time, spend a little bit more now to do it right and eliminate problems later, then you will have a job that will last.

                            The aluminum foil tape is really great product. This tape to be much more of a commercial grade and thicker aluminum layer with strong adhesive making robust material. This is an excellent tape for the HVAC projects. No putty work needed to seal the duct work. This tape that can be used for sealing off low, medium and high pressure systems of duct work.
