Because humidity trapped in the hollow part of the board expands/contracts when the ambient temperature changes and the wall is too thin, the New Techwood decking boards crack or split. It's not recommended.

The deck boards really look great with the hidden fasteners. All of the gaps are perfectly even and it went down quickly.

If applied the right way, this product is the best on the market. I've used it on the front and back of my yard

After comparing various options for our 12x16 deck, we went with NewTechWood (full set - decking, posts, railings, fascias). Here is the takeaway: * Great value!!! Get the quote for the full order from your Pro Desk (all things included, with railings etc). With the volume discounts that they applied (I am a homeowner, no prior PRO history with HD), it got _significantly_ cheaper than advertised on the website, and MUCH cheaper than other options (Fiberon, Trex, Timbertech) we were getting quotes for from other places. MUCH cheaper. The boards are only comparable in looks, texture, and level-of-protection (360" coating) with higher-end competitor products, but the actual order ended up cheaper than even the most basic competitive options. A significant contributor to overall value is a very cheap railing system. And yes, while making a bulk order through Pro Desk (which one should!), they can put any number of boards you request, it's not required to be at 10-board increments. * A favorable factor (for us) is that NewTechWood makes it easy with railings. You don't get to choose anything, there is basically one option (matching color) and that's it - makes it simple to choose! And looks great. * Very pleased with the look and texture. Great quality boards, and a very sturdy and well-made post&railing system. * There were some hiccups with delivery (they erroneously delivered the order to HD instead of direct-to-customer, and then HD temporarily lost the order - but found it eventually). Total delivery time was close to originally quoted, less than 3 weeks total (but still 2 days late than we were originally quoted and with some nervous back-and-forth), but it all ended OK. * Reasonably little shipping damage. Only 1 rail was broken (was not an issue, we were going to cut this section shorter anyway). All boards and fascias arrived OK. Still, make sure you order a little extra of everything. I guess that applies to any manufacturer. * We did not have installation troubles or waste as some other reviewers have mentioned. No boards splitting etc; We've used hidden fasteners (no through screws). And also followed all instructions meticulously (regarding predrilling fascias with a special tool, predrilling railings, etc). * We went with the standard "T-clips" fasteners (standard gap width) but regret it somewhat, should have gone with the Mini-Gap fasteners. * Make sure you don't forget the "end caps" to terminate the board ends. Looks much better! Hollowed boards (like the one I'm reviewing here) accepts end-cap hooked into the holes. Solid boards (Magellan etc) can accept the end caps with protruded "connectors" sliced&sanded off, and super-glued to the board itself. * Railing system installation is somewhat complex and laborious, needs a skilled builder capable of reading, understanding, and following complex instructions (but there are also installation videos on Youtube - for decking, straight railing, stairs railing). But quite doable. And the result is worth it. Before ordering, I was somewhat concerned with the steel railing posts (that are installed with lag screws through the deck surface and into the "substrate"), I thought of it as less sturdy than "traditional" wooden 4x4s. But it's not! It's actually very sturdy (with the right substrate, double 2x horizontal boards secured to the framing all around).

The decking looked great and was easy to install, especially with the hidden fasteners. The only bad thing about it is that it only comes in 16' lengths. I had a 19' deck that would have been ideal for 20' boards. Also the length of the 16 footers is only 16' and 1/4". I have a 4' wide bridge and should have been able to get 4 pieces out of each board, but could only get 3 because the width of the saw blade took too much out. They should be 16' and 2" which would have given me what I needed. The end caps fit nicely, and eliminate the need for "picture framing" your deck if you don't want to.

I really like this decking! I like that you have 2 different grain patterns on each plank; I used the Spanish Walnut smooth grain. I built an 18’x 12’ courtyard deck (used 16’ planks for no seams) level with the slab height of condo so you can just walk out. I removed 18’ of soil to give room for joists, drainage and required ventilation. NewTechWood says go 12” to 16” on center for joists. The planks are very flexible so it has a little give with 16” OC, I would go 12” if I were to do it again. I bought a Diablo Trex saw circular blade and it cut smoothly. Deck is very easy to work with. I used the hidden clip system for a tight fit. It went down fast! I only had 3 planks where the cut end was visible so I used the matching end caps, they look great. The only negative is it does get hot, not too hot to use, but you don’t want to sit on it in August (I had to during build). The next door neighbor had a deck contractor come out to refinish their teak deck and he said “that’s the good stuff” when he saw my deck. It looks so realistic everybody thinks its real wood. All the neighbors now want a NewTechWood deck too. I built this deck as a surprise gift for a good friend who works overseas and only gets home for a couple of weeks every other month. She hired a contractor to build a deck w/o supervision when she was out of town and he built a junk deck (it was 2’ higher than slab and was only 10’x10’, it looked more like a band stand). The next time she left town, I ripped out the crap deck and built this deck as a surprise. She cried when she saw it the first time she was so happy! I love the look and easy install. I will use it again for sure. It’s not cheap but worth cost. Love It! Love it! Love it!

Great product so far. The color and grain patterns are excellent with one side more complicated and modern and the other more traditional looking. Hollow core is vastly superior with decreased weight and increased stiffness. So far performing well in rain. Was easy to work with and had no problem hiding screws in the grooves on some end run boards.

Overall the aggravation and hassle to try to get my new deck order from NewTechWood will go down as the worst retail experience I’ve ever had. I started my order June 14 and it’s July 19. I have an unfurnished front deck with only the frame in place. I just received the Hollow boards after given the run around and misinformation. They weren’t in the best shape and to top it off I can’t do anything with them as I still haven’t received the solid boards for my staircase and noone could give me an ETA on when to expect them. All I get is they are on backorder So now 3 weeks later I have my NewTechWood fascia boards, hollow deck boards and railings but am still stuck!! This nightmare just will not end. I will be returning everything and restarting my order process with a different product hoping that will go better than this did. So no front deck for another few weeks at the very least. Never again NewTechWood

Very pleased with the product. Changed the look of my deck. Very durable, well worth the expense.
