A:  You will be fine as long as these plastic tanks aren’t buried deep… I wouldn’t use these if you have to put more than 2 feet of dirt. The weight of the dirt will crush the tank. I seen it happen way too many times….

        by|Feb 14, 2023

A:  Hi, Rusty - If installed correctly, the tank will not do that. The installation instructions must be followed completely.

Hi, Contractor X - We would be interested in hearing details of your installation as this is extremely rare. The tank is purpose built and has a wonderful track record. It must be installed in accordance with recommended procedures as found here on homedepot.com. https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/d6/d60d947a-a83c-4c2e-81c3-0d30d30b3c2a.pdf, If you're willing, please call me (Dave) at (661) 257-3923 x 1026 M-F 8a-2:30p Pacific time to discuss. Found that we had a 30 year old Steel Septic tank and it was at end of life. My tank is located in a tight area so this 314 lb tank was ideal for me. It was just over 1/2 the price of a good concrete one and instead of waiting for 10 days to two weeks for the concrete tank I picked it up the day that I needed it. I did have to buy 24" risers from another CO for the access manholes to meet code so that added almost $177. I was able to lower it into the hole with my case 580 extendahoe with no issues. 4 guys could lower it with straps. Seems very tough. We pre filled it with water then back filled with sand/gravel as the instructions recommend. Perfect for a DIY guy who understands septic systems.

This tank is a great tank as long as you follow the installation process and make sure it meets your local codes. One main installation item is filling the tank with water at the same rate as the backfill/dirt. We had no problem.

Two Halves Don't Make A Whole
After purchasing the 1000 gallon septic tank and carefully setting it into the excavated hole, I filled it full of water. The instructions are very clear that the tank must be full prior to burial. The tank immediately started leaking at the seam where the top and bottom halves are joined. We called the Home Depot where we bought it and were told we could either return it or repair it. Neither option was particularly appealing We decided hiring someone to repair the tank.

              Do not buy this tank!
Installed per instructions, collapsed the next day.

                Read the directions
The directions clearly state to add water before back filling to prevent collapse. I have 2 feet of soil on top. And also don't drive heavy equipment over it. This is my own install and i only had help with digging. Don't be afraid to use a shovel and rake to finish up. Don't forget the Rid.
