Because citronella only protects the candle
It seems to work as a mosquito repellent for me. In fact, it also repelled the wasps that were making nests on the inside of my shed door, even when I didn't actually burn the candle, but just left it out there, and the scent diffuses naturally.
I guess we should have read it more carefully, as citronella is always marketed as a mosquito repellent. The manufacturer is probably just covering for a product that doesn’t really make a difference.
Best of my knowledge. citronella is not a mosquito repellent. That is a common misconception. Cintronella candles are for "ambiance', as the product states. Use Off Deep Woods Dry Insect Repellent as directed along with these candles and you will have little or no problems with mosquitos. Enjoy.
I have a question. Why does a company that is branded to repel insects make a citronella candle with its well-known name associated with insect repellants plastered dead center, then on the bottom print this product does not repel mosquitoes! REALLY? I don't need an OFF candle for ambiance!

Not just mosquitoes but it doesn’t repel most of insects around and it served more like ambience one rather than repellant.
