I would like to drill several 1-1/8" holes in this. What type of drill bit should I use? What is the best technique to make sure the sheet doesn't shatter/splinter/etc.?
Asked by: BB
I used a forstner bit to drill a similar sized hole and it worked well, but you should be able to use just about any bit to drill through (with the exception of self-feed bits), just take it slow and without too much pressure

Not sure. I have used a heat gun on it to bend it. It will discolor with excessive heat

How much weight would this be able to hold? I am hoping to make hanging shelves for my small house plants. Would I be better off going to a thicker board?

can I get the store to cut to size needed after I buy the sheet
Asked by: al
When I asked them, they said no. I used a 60 tooth blade in my circular saw. Too fine of a blade will just melt it. At 0.22-in, it was too thick to score and break.

I broke the glass on my coffee table and wanted a more durable replacement. Luckily my coffee table frame is just about 24x48 so this acrylic sheet fit it perfectly and looks amazing. It's also very strong so works well as a table surface.

I researched a vendor on the cost of making a custom insert and the cost was about 3xs the cost of the panel. So I took a leap of faith and decided to take a chance. I went back & forth several times as to whether I could do this myself (I'm a lil woman), but in the end I got the job done with just the cost of the sheet and my time. It was kind of hard to cut (even with my Rotorazor) but with patience and the right tools I was able to create a rounded top insert for my security door and managed to save myself a lot of dough.

The first thing was a base plate that attached to my router base and then dropped into the router table I had made. The second is for a jib that the router attaches to and is used to create a larger working surface when cutting mortises, tenons, rabbets, dados, etc. I cut this on my table saw and in order to avoid chipping or cracking the plexigass at the end of the cut you have to cut into one end, flip the piece and make the rest of the cut. This way when the blade is near the end of the cut, the material is already done and cannot crack or break. I laminated these sheets with CA glue and clamped them. I used countersink bits to drill holes through and have the screw heads sit below the surface. For the router table plate, I drilled the center hole and then enlarged it with a jigsaw. For the other plate, I used a 35mm forstner bit I had. The plexiglass held up well even after tons of cutting and drilling. The router table plate works perfectly and holds the router to the table securely even while running large router bits. I like that I can see through and see what is beneath the plate - very hand when cutting mortises

And if you order on-line HD people will find it in the store for you and bring it to the front counter for you. Just so cool.
