How high of a temperature can this sheet withstand? I am thinking about using it for a 3D pen that uses PLA filament.
Asked by: Chris
Not sure. I have used a heat gun on it to bend it. It will discolor with excessive heat

When I asked them, they said no. I used a 60 tooth blade in my circular saw. Too fine of a blade will just melt it. At 0.22-in, it was too thick to score and break.

Can I use this 0.220 in. thick acrylic sheet under a new 50 gal. gas hot water heater to prevent water leaking into the wood base when the heater fails in the future? I would chalk the acrylic to each of the three side walls around the tank. I don't care if installing and removing new/old water heaters scratch the surface; I just want to prevent the wood frame base from rotting from future water leaks. The weight of the water heater (empty) is estimated at 165 lb; the weight of 50 gal. water is 417 lb; maximum total weight in use is estimated ~582 lb.
Asked by: DesertDale
I answered the question myself by remaking the original 24" high platform provided the house builder 12 years ago. Since the surface was no longer flat due to the water damage from the original water heater, I cut the acrylic sheet and a 1/2" thick plywood sheet each to 31" x 29" for the top of the platform. The plywood provided a flat surface and stability to the acrylic sheet. After painting the plywood, I drilled clearance holes through each, countersinking the acrylic, and then mounted the two pieces to support the new hot water heater. I used Loctite PL Marine fast cure sealant in each screw hole to prevent future water leaks through the acrylic, and DAP clear sealant all around the edges to prevent future water leaks at the surrounding wall.

I would like to drill several 1-1/8" holes in this. What type of drill bit should I use? What is the best technique to make sure the sheet doesn't shatter/splinter/etc.?
Asked by: BB
A good sharp wood bit. Not too close to the edge. I would use a cordless drill and control the speed, to see what us best

If you could have cut it at the store, I’d have given an even better rating. Seeing it done, I know my judgement was right. I’d have messed up a very expensive panel if I’d done it w/ no experience.
