Would this work as a wood deck floor protector for a rocking chair. Chair is causing wear on the wood deck. Maybe a thicker sheet necessary? If not appropriate for such use, any suggestions for alternatives. Thanks.
Asked by: Rich
Rich, The acrylic would make the rocker slide around. Get one of those mats they use under office chairs. You could even glue a carpet remnant on the back side for more protection. Dee Dee

Can I use this product outdoor...close-up my patio for winter?
Asked by: Nise
At last; an easy question to answer. Yes you can use these sheets outdoors. I made "storm" windows and door covers with this material. I used mirror mounting brackets and self-adhesive weather stripping fastened on opposite sides for mounting. This plastic is very thin and flexible. However, it is also brittle when cut. For that, I used a dremel saw with the wood/plastic cutting abrasive wheel, on low speed. Drilling needs to be done very slowly for the same reason. My 'storm" windows are now in their third year. They show some scratching from handling but still work well

Is this clear enough to replace window glass and will Home Depot cut it for me?

Asked by: Claryc
When new, yes it is clear enough to replace window glass. But it is not as strong as glass. It gets marked up much easier than glass. I would not recommend such a use. I do not know if Home Depot will cut it for you.

2 Questions: 1. What is the difference between Acrylic and Polycarbonate? 2. Is it better to buy larger pieces and cut them to fit or to purchase smaller pieces and secure them together? My puppy has finally outgrown ripping our screens in the covered porch/patio/deck area; however, we are still going to replace the bottom portion (where there is wooden railing/fencing) with some sort of plexiglass and aren't sure which product and size to start with (the top portion will still be screen).
Asked by: MGR
Q1. Acrylic is less expensive. Polycarbonate more suitable for security uses. Acrylic more brittle. Q2. "Better" is an "it depends" word. Probably best to use single sheet and not worry about how to secure pieces. But, depend on waste generated, desire for full coverage, look, etc. I don't consider score and break to be a high reliability cutting method. The more critical the cut, the more I go to sandwiching between plywood and using hand circular saw with fine blade set to just cut through the plastic. Polycarbonate planes smoother, but acrylic works with some chipping. Don't set blade too aggressive.

I have no complaints about the quality of the product, it does what it's meant to do and can fairly easily be scored and snapped to trim off moderately sized pieces. I purchased this acrylic sheet to use in a puzzle frame I built but unfortunately I should have purchased the sheet prior to building the frame as it measures 1/8" larger than is listed in each direction (i.e. 36-1/8"x48-1/8" rather than 36"x48"). This would have been fine for me if the product details reflected that but since it is impossible to trim 1/8" off an acrylic sheet I ended up having to buy a new rabbeting bit to enlarge the opening in the frame to fit this sheet. The product is fine but the listing needs to be updated to reflect actual physical dimensions of the product.

I prefer it to glass because it is stronger and much lighter. On the downside it is also more expensive. I generally use the .093 thickness because it is easy to cut with a table saw but thick enough to add some rigidity to the structure. Each sheet has a plastic film to protect it from scratches, however, you must still examine each sheet closely for damage (the retail environment can be pretty rough in these stores).
