Round Black ABS Shower Drain with 4-3/16 in. Square Screw-In Oil Rubbed Bronze Drain Cover

Perfect for my shower.

The finish of this bronze drain and cover wore off within a matter of months from our initial purchase. We repurchased the product and replaced the cover, which wore off even quicker, within weeks. Maybe it was due to our hard water, but would not recommend this product. Now we are stuck with it until we have a plumber replace the drain and have the shower floor re-tiled.

The base was easy to install and my carpenter said it’s well made. It’s very sturdy and will work really well when he lays down the tile. Very happy with this quality drain!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a stand-alone Roman-type shower that has a significant tile area requiring a large strainer. The Low Profile Bronze Strainer was a perfect size and larger with a very attractive fitting. Since my shower tile floor is an off-white color, the bronze strainer made it look fantastic. The strainer was adequately sized to handle soap particulates and hair. I like the fact the strainer is built to handle hair loss and drains effectively without clogging up my pipes. The quality of materials used to produce the strainer is very good. I expect the strainer to provide a long service life. The base is produced with ABS plastic that will withstand hard water and other types of chemicals. This strainer will be very competent, reliable, and easy to service. I give the strainer a 5-STAR Rating.

Its only been 4 months since I finished this install and the finish is already chipping, flaking off, with white corrosion and oxidation starting everywhere.

So far, this drain has worked out wonderfully in our main bathroom shower. Water has been draining appropriately, and since the drain itself is a bit larger in size, it helps with the pooling of water we were initially seeing with our old drain. We have yet to do so, but it seems like the product would be easy enough to pop off and clean, if needed. Definitely an extra bonus. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an easy to install & functional shower drain.

These OATEY adjustable shower drains are a necessity on any build-up type shower pan. Having had the pleasure to install a few I can attest to the quality of a shower drain being high up on the priority list when performing this time consuming method. The very nice thing about this is it is square. I have had to cut in tiles for round drains and I never feel great about the end result. The finish on this OIL RUBBED BRONZE strainer gives off a nice sheen. I plan to use this one when I remodel my stand up shower hopefully this winter! Thanks

Oatey ABS Drain with Square Bronze Strainer, good quality and nice design! Well you would think ordering a drain strainer would be easy but if you are replacing an existing one it may be harder than you think. For one, if you are replacing a leaking or stained or worn shower strainer you need to know what type you are replacing, ABS (with black plastic pipe) or PVC.(with white or gray plastic pipe). I made the mistake of ordering a PVC drain strainer for my renovation and my plumber said it is not a good idea to combine ABS with PVC, they are two different plastics, ABS is sturdy and strong but does have a chemical called BPA in the plastic while PVC is more common, does not have the chemical BPA and is more quiet, it muffles water sounds. He also said some building codes are very strict, some do not allow ABS pipe and some do not allow mixing plastics. At any rate, make sure you purchase the right product before starting your project. This Oatey ABS shower drain is primarily for new installations, it includes the bath drain, drain assembly and strainer. This is a standard drain, it can be installed over a 2" pipe or inside a 3 inch pipe and has 4 stainless steel bolts with brass inserts. It measures 6" x 6" and again quoting my plumber he said the square shape is a nice choice because it requires fewer cuts in your tile. Installation was easy for a plumber, it probably wouldn't have been easy for me as a DIY'er. When installing he said you want to have about a 1/4 " slope in your tile so water will drain easily. I would suggest watching a video online if you are installing this yourself. I ordered this particular strainer because I wanted a bronze finish to match my bath faucets and hardware. The finish on this strainer is a very nice oil rubbed bronze and so far the finish is holding up but I have only had it installed 1 week. The ABS pipe and strainer materials are really sturdy and good quality so I suspect this will last for some time. Once installed there was no problem with leaking. and it is nice that the actual strainer is removable for cleaning Oatey is a fairly well known manufacturer of bath and shower hardware and strainers. This strainer is sturdy and well made, has a nice square modern design and looks great with most stone or tile. I would definitely recommend this product.
